Fun, gesture based spell casting. Unlike other gesture games on the market, Magitek gives you a lot of freedom with how they can be cast, making the gameplay feel very fluid.
I really loved this game, just the movement in the game feels amazing, you hop in there and everything is interact-able. You feel really planted in the world. You can shove off walls. Climb just about anything. I can see maybe somebody getting motion sick. But I can't speak for them because I have never gotten motion sick in my VR. And I love this kind of movement. The magic controls are very easy and they have plenty of them. I do have a couple critics but honestly overall really well done. The story is pretty straight forward and entertaining enough. But I think I came for what I could do in the game. If you are at all intrigued I tried the demo and automatically knew I had to try the real game. That being said. A couple of critics with respect to it being in beta so it can easily change. Pros: -Movement: I loved the movement hands down. It was very comfortable and I found myself vaulting and jumping and climbing everything very quick. I enjoyed it a lot. Plus the spells with movement added to them really does add a bonus. Honestly I could probably go on and on about the movement I just enjoyed interacting in the world. I love VR games where everything is Physics based. It feels way more immersive. -They have a good amount of gameplay its nice to be able to get into a world and level up and unlock things. -It looks like they already have a direction for where to go next with the story and other features. Critics(hopefully some changes in these areas): -For me grabbing things with my vive wand controllers got tiresome to hold the grip buttons after a while. Maybe the option in settings to have a click to hold and click to release -The enemies. **My biggest pet peeve is that they respawn so frequently**. In certain areas all I'm doing is trying to re defeat certain enemies. And after a bit. The movement of them becomes pretty bland. But I could see them adding more and updating this. honestly just fighting them and defeating them once and for all would be nice. Maybe add in passive NPC's to keep some character going. Like birds. Or dogs.... something. -Story seemed a little bland. And I always got distracted by other things during the story. Which is both good and bad. I like that I can run around and throw bowls during the intro. But At other times when I get swarmed by enemies and then they tell me where I need to go its kinda annoying.
Very promising early access VR game! Aesthetics are amazing, the spells feel fluid and I Love Carl and his quirky lines! Cant wait to see future updates!
just played its beta story mode even in beta the story took me more than an hour and a half i can really see me sinking thousands of hours in the coming year and people in the future buying this game i really hope people can see this as a really good game they should get.
Even though it is still in early access and most of the content isnt even there yet, I still had a lot of fun playing around with the refined fire mechanics, everything feels so well done and is totally worth it if you dont mind it being unfinished!
There is clearly a lot of love and passion put into this game, and hopefully it will grow into a truly great game, but for right now I can’t recommend this as a “Element Bender” game. The blend of magical element bending and fighting robots seems very at odds with itself, and doesn’t blend very well, and the robot companion is just insufferable. The bending moves and forms are interesting, yet unrefined. It’s difficult to go from say the precision of Rumble where every form is important and specific, to this where I can flail my hands wildly and shoot fire everywhere. It lacks that satisfaction of nailing the pose. Fun to mess around with, but didn’t grab me. The lack of great support for the Vive wands also doesn’t help. The menu buttons being used for Menu and Jump while also bringing up the spell selector feels really unpolished.
Game is a decent tech demo, underwhelming, but cool. Great concept. If you want to blow 15 bucks for that, go ahead. Its fun, don't get me wrong, but too early into development to be great.
I won't spend too much time on this, as I simply want to refund this game and get that over with. As such, I'll summarize my thoughts here: - The game is widely unfinished; almost embarrassingly so. It's more of an expanded demo than an early access game. They'd have been better off creating a Kickstarter than releasing it in this state, regardless of whatever title they slap on it. - The entire distance grab mechanic needs a lot of work, as it's incredibly inconsistent. - The game feels... Empty. It's all the same enemy, and there's not really that much to do. - The water is crystal clear, yet kills you. I know they said something about "oh the world is uninhabitable", which doesn't scream to the player that water is deadly. It's a poor design choice to make crystal clear water like this that cannot be swam through. Most importantly though, my biggest gripe: - THE ROBOT COMPANION IS ASTOUNDINGLY ANNOYING. This thing is unnecessarily sexual, unfunny, and uncreative as a whole. They're trying to sell this beautiful magic world, but you're stuck with this ♥♥♥♥-joke-cracking robot that complains about being caught going into the captain's wife's panty drawer. Magitek VR was something I was incredibly looking forward to based on the visual style of the world alone, but I'm sorely disappointed at the blatantly flawed design choices they've made, unfortunately. They don't seem to be brave enough to take the leap on making the game even a little bit serious, instead resorting to thoughtless, mediocre joke cracking from a robot you have no choice but to deal with. Sorry, team. You have a long way to go before this even really falls into the early access category of what's expected. If they get themselves together and turn this around, maybe I'll consider it again in a year, but as it stands right now I'm getting my money back. Honestly hope for the best for the team, but in my honest opinion it wasn't quite ready for an actual release yet, even in early access.
I 100% recommend this VR game. The gesture based spell casting system feels natural and the player can realistically interact with the world around them due to the physics It has lots of potential as an awesome VR game!
This game is so much fun, I came to play because i'm a big fan of avatar, and the bending is awesome and the story is well made.
