this game is really good, but being stuck at the first mission is literally pain in the ass btw, i'd recommend you playing the 2020 remake if you didn't like the original game the main menu theme was badass tho.
This game has it's limitations due to old age but let me tell you, it is totaly worth the play. Great story and fun gameplay.

ENDLICH DURCH MIT DIESEM SCHEIßDRECk!
for its time its a great game. There is some cool attention to detail with the weapons, relaoding, the sound effects etc. really cool game. The controls are fairly clunky but its part of it charm and comes with nature of realism of reloading. It's a dificult game for my skill level and death in the game is a decent loss. annoying as it is, the challenge is what makes it rewarding and fun. glad I palyed this classic. It is a good insight into these types of games and its fun comparing it up againts other games like it. The story is slow but it is cool and has some charm to it.
Ok, I have so much to say about this game, negative and positive sides. Let's talk about bad things first. I understand that game is from 2002, and that it was sat in the 30s, but driving in this game, at the beginning it was so hard for me to understand driving, later I become a better at driving, so that means you have to take some time. It's challenging but ok, ok, next thing. Aiming, aiming is so so bad, I had so much problems with hitting opponents, aiming is so hard in this game that you really need good skill with that. It's realistic that you can die if you get shot few times, ok, I'm ok with that, but the problem is missions rarely have health kit (that can give you 30-100 health) when you really need them, in those missions where it's all about shooting you'll hardly find it. Now, missions. Missions like missions are not that bad, BUT, the problem is they are really confusing (at least to me at first as a new player). They were so confusing that half of the missions I needed a tutorial to see where I need go. I finished the game in 17 hours, I can imagine how much longer it would take me if I didn't decide to get help from the internet. Poliiiiceee, to be honest the police is really good implemented in this game, but that's a big problem. It's really easy to get wanted, if you go faster then 60 kph, if you crash into somebody, if you destroy a SIGN, I know this is not GTA but coming from a person that really really likes GTA games, I find this really offensive to me cuz, you really need to pay attention to what you are doing, which I'm not big fan of but ok, It's Mafia game so, makes sense. The remake is really good, If they didn't make a remake (maybe am wrong), I don't know who would play classic one. But let's talk about 1 thing that is really good, and that's a storyy. Really good made, I enjoyed It (gameplay was bad but I get into it so, it wasn't that bad). Missions as I said were confusing to me, but there are many that were funny (that confusion made it look worse then how it really is). Overall, if you want to play this game for the first time it would be difficult but you'll see (if you want to play it at all). Ratings: Story: 8 Gameplay: 4 Characters: 8 Missions: 6 Map: 6 Total rating: 6,5 -ish Ratings for my First playthrough ever. Also I played strictly main missions except Lucas's ones, they were fun.
I wanted to enjoy this game so much, but I just couldn't. I knew going into it that it was going to be a slower experience, and that much I enjoyed. I appreciate the developers dedication to realism. The story was absolutely great. I loved the setting, Lost Heaven felt so alive, and the period of the game did nothing but enhance the story and the setting. However, no matter how much I try to sing this game's praises, I can not recommend it to anyone in the modern day. The physics are clunky, the voice acting is shotty at best, and you'd need a walkthrough if you're not already taking all day doing a mission. I loved how the cars handled and how the guns worked. Reloading actually dropping what you had left in the magazine on the floor was a great touch and added a sense of strategy to combat that I feel a lot of other games are missing. In that sense, the dedication to realism was a good addition to gameplay. In most other cases though it is not. I always used to laugh at GTA and other games like it for the police not enforcing crimes like speeding or blazing through red lights or anything similar, but this game made me learn to appreciate it as a gameplay choice. The cops in this game ended up being more of an annoyance than anything. I could imagine to some people it would help to bring immersion into the game, but the rest of the aspects of it already do that enough. The speed limit itself was annoying too. I could not find out what the actual speed limit was until later on in the game. I found the easiest way to avoid interactions with the police was to put the vehicles into manual and redline gear 1. This was not conducive to a positive gameplay experience, especially when 90% of the actual gameplay is driving to and from various locations on the map. I could go on about my other various nitpicks about this game, but the main point is that I am so disappointed by this game. I had looked forward to playing it since I had heard about it, but now at the other end of the nearly 20 hour experience, I wish I had just kept looking at it with stars in my eyes.
