DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. Having played the original M.A.X., which was brilliant, I thought that I would try M.A.X. 2. Game loaded OK and it took a little time to work out what the differences from the original game were. This resulted in me taking about 1 1/2 hours to get to turn number 36 when the game crashed. It had done an automatic save at turn 35 so started the game again and again it crashed. I then checked that my system was compatible with the program, loaded it up again and tried a different scenario. It crashed again around turn 30. After two more scenarios and crashes I had spent 4hours trying to get it to work and thought that a refund was in order. Of course steams rules say so refund after 2 hours. How on earth do they expect people to test a game, that always crashes, in two hours. The game should be taken off their site until the software anomalies have been rectified. The game looks like it could be a good one. I liked the graphics and also the line of sight for observation and shooting. But, until the publishers produce a patch to sort the problems, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.
Какая то лажа, первый МАКС сильно лучше
Good Old Game! Must play for old RTS fans
M.A.X. 2's best feature is a real-time (not turn based) gamemode, alongside the classic turn based gamemode. This allows for a far different way of playing the game in which mass-production, large scale assaults and (way) faster gameplay are the order of the day, instead of meticulous micromanaging and extremely slow paced combat/[gameplay in general] which would result in unfinished playthroughs like in the previous title. The addition of a completely new alien race also makes the game feel much more interesting; so that not every enemy feels exactly the same. Another plus is the updated/new artwork for units, better looking maps that look like there is actual depth/height to them and the addition of many different voice-lines for units (with different voices for different human doctrines) instead of the exact same lifeless, robotic voice like in the previous title. The game also offers special "famous earth places" maps which can be unlocked after completing (part of) the campaign. In summary: a more mature sequel with many improved features, larger scale battles and a whole new faction. If you can get this game in a sale I'd recommend it if you like strategy games (don't buy it for €10,- like M.A.X. since these games are over 20 years old at this point, which seems a bit excessive). NOTE: Besides all the many improvements, the game is a bit unstable at times and crashes every now and again (maybe once per 2 matches, maybe more if your playthrough drags on a bit); luckily the autosave makes sure this doesn't ruin your experience. This is nothing new however since M.A.X. crashes consistently after every turn past a certain number of turns (ex. after 300 turns almost guaranteed to crash after clicking "end turn").
App does not work on Windows 11. Just crashes. On Windows 10, some half way into the campaign you come across games with goals to reach and when you reach them the game does not stop and you can never get out to continue. Some bug with numbers and counting that stops you dead. This game should not be on Steam - it does not work.
Will not load saved games after turn 100-200?? or so.
I'e always liked this game. I've played it +1000 hours on a different account. It's very simple, easy to learn, a lifetime to master. 5 different types of humans, plus a pod species much like Alien(s). You can choose or do it random. Six different maps. 1-on-1 up to 5-on-1. You can call it a city builder, but then again, you could call Napoleon an adventurer. Never plays the same way twice.
game keep on crashing
this game just won't even start, never mind a review, even if you can into it without issue, the game bugs out in 200 circles... p.s ok, I would take some of that back as I found out my older pc can launch, I guess, its to do with your graphic cards, but still it is a buggy game and i can't take any screenshot for some reasons...
Timeless classic, mostly unknown I think, it inspires old memories, still fun once a while doing a single battle and just enjoying for 1-2 hours, depend your play style.
