Приятная цветовая гамма и простейший, босяцкий геймплей. Быстрые 100% и плюс раздавали бесплатно. Сплошные плюсы. То, что нужно в перерывах между "большими" играми.
Lowglow is a simple, shallow mobile-app like physics puzzle game of very low quality. Gameplay consists of swiping your finger on your iPhone screen to draw lines which balls bounce off. The objective is to draw sufficient lines on your iPhone screen at the right angles so that the balls bounce into the goal area. That's all there is to it, shallow and pointless... a mobile app in all but the poor decision making the "developers" here used when deciding which gaming platform mobile apps should be launched on. Spoiler: No, it is not Steam. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals. The game features extremely lazy, minimalist "art", of the type you normally expect to see in low effort Flash/browser games and mobile apps. Considering this is being evaluated as a PC game, having the graphics phoned in like this isn't going to result in a high quality, visually impressive game that PC gamers are used to seeing. The controls can't be customised because the game has such a dumbed down, simplified interface that it's just iPhone screen tapping stuff. The fact that the interface is this dumbed down might be seen as a problem in itself, however... this is a fairly shallow experience if you're the kind of gamer that likes to play games with deep, rich control schemes and interaction. You'll get none of that here. Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the Cocos Creator/Cocos2D game engine/toolset. This is a very poor quality toolset sometimes used by amateur developers as it's free (so they don't have to pay for GameMaker Studio) and doesn't require advanced game development skills, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities (it's arguably worse than GameMaker Studio). Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine. This looks and feels like a mobile app, but it doesn't seem to have made it to the app stores. It's unclear why this was put on Steam instead of the app stores it seems to have been designed for. Maybe it was removed, maybe it was rejected by Apple and Google (they do have more rigorous quality standards than Valve does for Steam, after all). Regardless, for all intents and purposes "Lowglow" might as well be a mobile app, it has the same limitations and dumbed down qualities. It's impossible to recommend such a game to PC gamers. We don't spend all this money building gaming rigs so we can pretend they're iPhones and play games that might as well be mobile apps. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. Lowglow didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for finishing the very basic tutorial levels that make up the first "chapter", but only around 14 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, gamers just weren't all that interested in the game. Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this isn't consistent with the achievement stats, that show only 14 percent of players bothered playing the game for any reasonable amount of time. How is it possible for this game to have so many concurrent players who weren't even playing the game? Trading cards. Players will use card idling software to collect the cards and sell them, but this won't trigger any achievements in-game. That tells us people only really bought this game for trading cards, and that's a damning indictment of the woeful quality. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards. Lowglow has the gamer gouging, insulting price of around $4 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam.
Lowglow Review
Audio/Visual - Excellent 4.9/5 The audiovisual experience is downright delightful and very well integrated within the gameplay aspects. Sadly, the ending note for the replay scene repeats itself and thus, could have used at least 2 more versions for variety, as there are quite a few levels to go through. One thing that stood out to me were the small shadow creatures present within several of the beginner levels. It would have been nice to see them (just as seldomly) throughout the later levels in either their current form, or better yet, in a different iteration based on the environment. Otherwise, the level design is gorgeous and very well put together. Bugs and glitches - None 5/5 When replaying levels you are sure to come across a few issues here and there. However, throughout my time I have not encountered any problems whatsoever, whether due to luck or other reasons, one can only speculate. Steam Achievements - Worthwhile 4.5/5 Fellow hunters will be pleased to know that all cheevos are easy to get, apart from ONE, which requires you to use fewer lines per level than what the game expects of you. This may cause some irritation due to backtracking but thankfully the game does state which levels have been cleared in this manner and which have not. The menu, however does not mention which levels CAN BE completed using fewer lines. That would be telling ;) Overall, the 100% status is certainly worth getting within an estimated completion time of about 8h-10h, depending on your playstyle. Story - 3.5/5 Minimal but engaging for its duration. The storyline is LINEar, which is in LINE with the gameplay. There are no side quests and the main characters will mumble your ear off, if you let them. Conclusion - 4.5/5 Great audiovisual experience packaged as a light puzzle game with plenty of engaging levels and modest storyline. Best taken on sale and played at leisure. "Perfectly balanced, as all things should be"
I give this game a rank D+ (50-55%) Forgettable game - sadly nothing really good here.. See my profile for more details about my reviews. I think Lowglow deserves around 53% in rating, which gives it a D+, normally a NOT recommend in my system... but once in a while, I will break the rules of my system and still give it a recommend - blame Steam, not me. I still don't think there is any reason for you to purchase this game, as despite its pleasant look (very abstract) and feel (the gameplay is rather relaxing), there is not much in this game. It reminds me of all these freewares on Newgrounds or Kongregate... but that was 20 years ago, and free, and on internet! Admittedly the game is now 10 years old and quite cheap, but still. Typical puzzle game of drawing a line to get bounces... as you see on the screenshots, and new mechanisms barely even appear (inverted gravity and the like). Gameplay is really not rewarding, trial and error based, so rather than a smart puzzle it makes you feel like you are fiddling with it more than anything. Music is very repetitive, there is a semblance of a story but it is extremely abstract and boring. Also, some weird clash in the styles with tiny cute characters in the levels?... So overall, not a great game, I would not recommend buying it, and yet it is not bad either, done with some genuineness, and a few people (casual or young mostly) might be interested? I still think you are better off trying stuff on Newgrounds, Kongregate, or itch.io. I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing. Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side. With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay. After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like. Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends. Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together. Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that. Thank you.
