(Got this game for free via the developer's submission to SteadyGiveaways. Thanks!)
How many balls did it take to make this game?
Paddle Team must have heard my wail from my past reviews. "So many crappy Super Breakout! Isn't there one with anything NEW to offer?!" I'd think...and apparently Paddle Team heard this and said "Challenge accepted!". Lots of Balls starts out as you would expect, just like any other Super Breakout clone, but soon enough, it throws a new rule at you in the next round, which keeps things interesting and fresh for those looking for a change of pace. You'll get a fusion of Super Breakout and Space Invaders, a mode that gives you control of the gravity shift, powerups that act as both blessings and curses, and a few additional surprises I don't want to spoil. Controls of the game are very simple. Z to boost, X to shoot, and C to shield (which replenishes very quickly). Gameplay is nice and fresh. It's the traditional norms you'd expect, but with something fresh enough to keep your attention. Sadly, I was lead to believe from the trailer that there was a LOT more to expect, but that may come in a future update...maybe. It's also worth noting that "Custom" isn't as "Custom" as you think. The developer states on the store page that it uses pre-made maps, meaning that you cannot make your own maps. It also has a cheat menu, but the functions to it remain a secret to this day... (along with a few achievement unlock methods). Overall, Lots of Balls (despite its generic name) is a breath of fresh air for those who've grown tired of the stale air brought on by the Super Breakout clones that float around on Steam. $4 does seem to be a steep price for the consumer, but if you find it for sale at $1-$2, you'll find it's well worth your money. In the end, I'd say to give it a shot. Can't really go too wrong with this game. 9/10 Not enough balls in this game. >=(
Classical Arcade-like game.

Although at first glance it may seem like a simple Breakout clone, the game shows its true face after a few levels. And when you feel you had enough of it, it adds something new (transform into Space Invaders or something else "expected"), so it pushes you to play it more. Nowadays, when anything that is not innovative enough - gets boring too soon, this game's introduction of such occasional upgrades and small new ideas to already proven formulas really works nice! I recommend this to older gamers wanting a nostalgic trip, but also for youngs who are just entering the gaming world. My six-year-old daughter is already interested in trying Lots of Balls tomorrow after seeing me playing it (split screen options will come in handy to help her/distract her). Although I can't say I'm a fan of graphic solutions (fonts during gameplay especially), nothing is distracting, it's functional and fun. Only glitch I had was with 16:10 resolution, but I saw later that only 16:9 is supported (but it's playable even in 16:10). Even with those twists mentioned at the beginning, I would say it is best to keep it installed for playing in short bursts between "bigger" games. Anyway - it's quite good for the asking price (at least in euros) and I hope devs will keep updating it as promised!

Lots of Balls is a variant of the old Arkanoid/Breakout/Pong arcade game with a few twists. First of all, you can spawn as many balls as you like, and you can shoot and use a "shield" to stop balls that you can't catch with the paddle. Also, the game is designed for 16:9 displays (ultrawide gamers lose out here). There's a "zoom" feature to make your paddle rush across the screen. While the twists on the gameplay are interesting, the delivery falls flat. Needing to use a "zoom" feature to catch balls is more frustrating than fun. The art and graphics are really limited. The developer opted for a lazy, retro pixel/minimalist style that just looks ugly. I really didn't have fun trying to play the game and it doesn't look nice, so I won't recommend this to others. Edit: The developer offers some explanation about the zoom/boost functions in the game, but that doesn't really change the fact I found them dissatisfying to use. The developer uses my review as an opportunity to advertise other features of the game like the level editor, and indicates they find the lazy, low effort pixel "art" to be charming. I've written almost 5,000 reviews on Steam, my experience is that 99.9% of the time, where pixel "art" is used, it's simply because the developer lacked the talent/budget to produce contemporary PC graphics and used retro pixel "art" as a compromise. One of my goals in reviewing games is to ensure gamers know they're getting only the very best, and don't need to put up with compromises. Most gamers I know didn't spend thousands on bleeding edge gaming rigs so they can pretend their PC is an Atari 2600.
It's a good game to pass the time.
TL:DR (yay bullet points!),

Many gamemodes
Great humour
Singeplayer AND multiplayer
Voice acting!
10/10
Not TL:DR (Ugh reading...), It's hard to call this one game given the amount of gamemodes, ranging from the typical breakout to a space invaders-like, a mix of both and even more! It has a lot of singleplayer content and to top it off includes multiplayer. It's a great game to unwind, but cool enough to keep you interested with player progression, achievements and cool and interesting mechanics. All in all, just play the damm game...
