Really satysfying and enjoyable rougelike. At first it was hard, but then i played for some time and started winning almost every run. I done a run as a mushroom with a highscore of 83 (i was doing hitless up to level 58) which i think is a pretty good score and then i did a time of 2:33 as a torch. I also have 3 stars as every character. TL;DR Good and cheap game.
Lost Potato is a quirky roguelite developed and published by Blobfish that manages to turn a ridiculous premise into a surprisingly compelling gameplay experience. Taking control of a vulnerable potato stranded in a hostile environment, players must survive waves of enemies, navigate dangerous terrain, and make clever use of the world around them. While the concept initially appears humorous and lighthearted, the game quickly reveals a well-designed action formula built around creativity, movement, and tactical thinking rather than traditional combat mechanics. What immediately separates Lost Potato from many other roguelites is its refusal to rely on direct attacks. The protagonist is unable to fight enemies in a conventional way, forcing players to approach every encounter differently. Instead of defeating opponents with weapons, success depends on exploiting environmental hazards and manipulating enemy behavior. Spikes, traps, projectiles, and other dangers become essential tools for survival. This unusual design choice transforms each battle into a small strategic challenge where positioning and timing matter just as much as reflexes. The game's roguelite structure keeps every run feeling fresh. Levels are procedurally generated, ensuring that layouts, enemy encounters, and opportunities change from one attempt to the next. This randomness encourages adaptability and prevents players from relying solely on memorization. Every run presents new situations that require quick decision-making, helping maintain excitement even after multiple hours of play. The unpredictability is one of the key factors that gives Lost Potato its strong replay value. Another strength lies in the game's upgrade and progression systems. Throughout each run, players can acquire various bonuses that alter how the potato performs. These upgrades can improve survivability, mobility, or interactions with environmental hazards, creating meaningful choices that influence the remainder of a run. In addition, unlockable hats introduce different playstyles and starting advantages, encouraging experimentation. Trying new combinations and discovering effective strategies becomes an enjoyable part of the overall experience. The pacing is consistently fast and energetic. Runs are relatively short, making the game easy to pick up and play in brief sessions. Despite this accessibility, the challenge remains engaging. As players progress further, enemy patterns become more dangerous and situations become increasingly chaotic. Surviving these moments requires concentration and careful planning, especially when multiple threats appear simultaneously. The game's ability to maintain tension without becoming overwhelming is one of its most impressive accomplishments. Visually, Lost Potato adopts a simple but effective art style. The colorful environments and clean character designs prioritize clarity over realism, ensuring that players can easily identify hazards and enemy positions during hectic encounters. While the graphics are not technically ambitious, they complement the gameplay perfectly. The humorous presentation also enhances the game's personality, helping it stand out from more serious entries within the genre. The sound design supports the action effectively, providing energetic audio cues that reinforce the fast-paced gameplay. Combined with responsive controls and smooth performance, the overall package feels polished despite its modest scope. The game demonstrates how strong design fundamentals can often be more important than high-end visuals or large production budgets. However, the game's simplicity can occasionally work against it. Because the core objective remains largely consistent throughout the experience, some players may eventually notice repetition after extended sessions. While procedural generation and unlockable content help maintain variety, the gameplay loop does not evolve dramatically. Those seeking extensive narrative content, complex world-building, or large-scale progression systems may find the experience somewhat limited compared to larger roguelite titles. The unique combat philosophy may also divide players. The inability to directly attack enemies is what makes Lost Potato memorable, but it can sometimes lead to situations where success depends heavily on environmental positioning. Players accustomed to traditional action games may require time to adjust to this approach. Fortunately, once the mechanics click, the game becomes highly rewarding and offers a satisfying sense of mastery. What makes Lost Potato particularly successful is its confidence in a single creative idea. Rather than overwhelming players with countless systems, it focuses on refining its central mechanic and building an entire experience around it. The result is a game that feels distinct, memorable, and consistently entertaining. Every successful escape from a dangerous situation feels earned because victory comes from smart decisions rather than raw firepower. Lost Potato may not be the largest or most feature-rich roguelite available, but it excels at delivering focused and enjoyable gameplay. Its inventive environmental combat, strong replayability, charming presentation, and satisfying challenge make it a standout indie title. Players looking for a fresh twist on the roguelite formula will find plenty to enjoy, especially if they appreciate games that reward creativity and strategic thinking over simple aggression. Rating: 8/10
Unnecessarily RNG, it's not terrible but the gameplay loop is more frustrating than fun
