Crapcom updated the game today (29 may 2025) after 3.5 years of silence, ignoring everyone who had questions about it, despite promising that they would "let us know about the process of the investigation" The problem with this update is they simply used a technique that is similar to the Xliveless to "fix" the game. This means the Games for windows live Calls are mostly gone, so while the game does work now, you lose out on all the features that was locked behind GFWL. (Achievements, Online and so on) Neither did they add a build where we could easily downgrade the version. You have to literally open steam with -console argument and find out the ID's matching the version to get the version with all the features it had previously. In additon, you lose out on your save file from previously, so you have to make a new one due to the nature of how GFWL saves were generated. Capcom had a solution to this for RE5 when they migrated to steamworks there, this time they did nothing So while Colonies was an special edition of the game, the selling point of colonies originally was all the improvements, cross-play with xbox 360 and all new content. 95% of it was tied to online. All the new stuff you get now is simply two extra modes for single player when comparing to extreme conditions version. So what's the point of having this version if capcom is cutting everything that was new in colonies other than two bonus modes from the single-player which isn't anything special?

Right, so Capcom has officially become a worse company than Konami. How, you might ask? Simply put, Konami doesn't give two ♥♥♥♥♥ about you and your desires for a game franchise, but they at least let you play the games you've already bought, and even mod them as you please to extend the life of the game. Capcom has somehow decided that mods will ruin their reputation. I assume some hyper-religious useless twit of a corporate officer took offense to the various nude mods for RE 4. Twit: "Oh, no, Ada isn't wearing clothes! "Devs, why did you put this in the game?" Devs: "Uh, it's not us, Twit-sama!" "Yeah, it's modders, Twit-sama!" Twit: "Ban all mods!" Don't buy anymore games from Capcom until they revoke this abysmal decision. Mods help to extend the life of a game and can keep it popular for decades. Just ask Bethesda why the TES or Fallout series has been so popular for so long.
The incredible slap in the face from Capcom to list a new version of Lost Planet, with the Windows Live ♥♥♥♥ fixed, but to not upgrade people who already own the damn game for free. Ridiculous.
Hello fellow steam users capcom is choosing to destroy their legal game libraries with their new drm. games that gets this drm are inferior to previous and pirated copies and what is worse is people are confirming the drm is malware/Trojan virus at worse to just making the games run like crap at best. it also makes it so games can't be modded. honestly this is over reaching no matter if this is cooperate greed or some kind of hate boner for modders cause no one wants to keep buying skins/cosmetic dlc or any other reason one can think of.
"Hi, let's make already cracked games more appealing, and punish those who have bought our games" - Capcom
removed all online play due to extremely poor update.
I love this game for the multiplayer and nostalgia. Wish that they would allow more people to buy it so they can all play with us. Maybe setup an installation script to fix the issue with GFWL. It can be fixed but its annoying to find the runtimes etc. With a little bit of love that capcom will most likely not give this game it could be poppin.
Playing through this game I could see the ambition it had. I could tell that it pushed the limitations of what was possible in the early days of the Xbox 360. Fighting giant bugs while on a mech suit or swinging around with a grappling hook never gets old. However the enemy ai is a little cheap and the performance is not the best during tense moments. The story is average and never gets that deep but I still found the characters likable. I really think that a remake or a sequel would be an excellent thing to do and it will also be really lucrative for Capcom especially considering the recent success of Helldivers 2. There's still a lot of untapped potential to this series. As you can see Steam has 2 versions of this game with the current one being unavailable for now. In 2021 Capcom halted the sales of their steam games that rely on the old drm/client Games For Windows Live. This includes this game and its sequel. It's been three years now with no word from Capcom when or if these games will ever be relisted. If you really want to you could get a key for this release on the gray market but this will cost you around $100 and there's no guarantee that the key you'll get is going to work. Frankly, I don't recommend you to do this since most of the features this version has are for the multiplayer which while still functional is dead because nobody's playing it. However, if you still wanna go through with buying a key you gotta have a Microsoft account and login to the Xbox app on Windows 10 and 11. Games for Windows Live is basically an older version of the Xbox app so that way you can "trick" it into working. You also might need to find and install the last version of GFWL for it to work properly. Anyways, if you are willing to jump through all these hoops to get a slightly different version of this game or if you already have it and want to experience the multiplayer reply below and send me a friend request, I'll play with you.
Made the decesion to say Lost Planet games before the third were great. The 2nd one was good stuff, and it was the first time we saw how bad journalists can ruin something with a bad score because they weren't paid off to love a game, or simply learn how to play it. That and several obviously have a skill check issue worse than mine, even after my nerve damage. Until we get fixes for the Lost Planet games they've said they would do, a new LOST PLANET like the 2nd game, Power Stone, DarkStalkers, Cyberbots, or a return of the beat em up game ideal of what came before Cyberbots and put it into a form of ongoing adventures that could last a while with replayability unto new co op missions, and have one of these turn out, you know, actually GOOD, I think I'm kinda done with buying Capcom games. Sure I'll play some SF6 again, but that was a gift from a friend. Meanwhile, Capcom has utterly ignored the requests to go back to other IP's or things comparable to them for such a very long time and many ventures have had simply terrible outcomes since like, well, anything after Monster Hunter World which was also a bit sour cuz people stopped playing with me for being a HeavyBowgun users cuz people thought working with a team to read their needs and using special ammo to help with status effects was skillless and yet others wouldn't bring you along because you couldn't deliver enough damage after it was nerfed to hell. ANd yet still I played through pretty much all of the game that way out of dedication. Eventually I got sick of the treatment though, seeing how even a co op community could get so toxic, and now sadly some of them show up in Helldivers 2 but are being actively dealt with, people could really get. It's a shame so much has gone this way, but hey. Least there's some decent games shaping up or coming out of interest in other places. And with prices like 17 dollars for a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Ninja Turtle Skin, and the lies about how all content before in FIVE could be unlocked without money, and yet a game like HELLDIVERS 2, at least for now can make it come true... Well dayum... 70 dollars tittles and the best out of the lot they can muster is Skull and Bones and even that doesn't seem to avoid the 70 USD price curse. It's like being the player who shows up on the front of the Wheaties cerial Box or the myth about being on the MADDEN game cover. It just kinda falls to pieces after. But i digress. The game here it's self, it's good! But Capcom's playing ball with Microsoft, and then failing to fix the issue of the service going away or changing after, completely unforgivable when they said they would and it's like a decade later. Pitiful. I dont like how USA and other governing agencies have basically turned consumer protection into a laughing stock in the modern age, and with that mixed with the companies like this that just dont want to make good on promises, have no repercussions for pulling road maps out from under people like table cloth tricks flubbed as if we wouldn't notice the glasses all falling over, and continuing to not only ignoring the requests for returning IP's, but then doubling down on past mistakes saying how they don't care when their new games come out, and then wonder why things like the recent Spider Man game lost every award. So with all that, and CAPCOM's major hand into turning similar I say, No DarkStalkers, PowerStone, Lost Planet, or otherwise good mech game, I'm done. no more just this medievel open world stuff but perhaps something that feels like a mecha band of brothers kind of game roaming the land town to town co op with friends to take lobs and missions, just a thought, well.... I could even think of a couple of other IPs, but something like the above mentioned, I think that's what it's going to take for me to even ATTEMPT to get something out of capcom again. For now they just keep re selling the old IP's doing the wink when no one is looking despite saying it's not really a thing that if a re sale sells well they'll bring it back, but know it's our only hope, they'll just use the other IP's for cameo appearances. Or sell them too us yet again another five years from now. Abandon our hopes, welp, abandon enough of your customers. And I've finally reached the end of good faith to a few companies. So Capcom, you can take your sale, and kindly realize that a small percent of what I wasn't interested in, or re purchased already like...three or four times... that's just it for me.... And the good gameplay in this game, and especially Lost Planet 2, makes me further fortify this thought process. And so here it is. My very broad review of other things, along with this game, that were good in the past, but now gone from us for many years. A decade of failures and large levels of being foresaken that only, to me, Monster Hunter World felt like it progressed and kept something un usual, and yet happened to fail me a bit as well in what became a rather toxic co op community. How is it that even Warhammer 40K which is a great franchise but known for some intolerant people in some of their communities happen to have a fairly good natured co op community with Darktide, and then other things just get so.. bad?... And other things wanted just left by the way side because they don't have the last few years big sale's numbers because, news flash, you haven't made them again inlike over a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ decade?..... But hey, plenty else out there for me to catch up, some past games worth playing, you just need to pick them up on decent older hardware like Capcom vs SNK 2 on a ye ol PS2. That's the good stuff right there... Shape up CAPCOM, look to Lost Planet 2 and realize it's slow start was because of bad journos while others who actually bought it, like myself, cherrish it to this very day. So much that we bought it on consoles, then PC, then you ripped away the PC version from us through lies of fixing it. Maybe one day we will look eye to eye again, but this day ain't it. Maybe that PowerStone collection in the mix will prove to be true, and MAYBE I'll get that. But again. No games that I mentioned above? This is goodbye. At least for now. You were great in your time, but now you have me less interested in what you have than even SEGA that's now realizing it's time to pick up the things we been asking for once more... What are the odds? You've used up your 'once in a while company saver' Resident Evil franchise by over miking that now too. So you'll have to look to one of the above. SOme interesting designs for armors in ExoPrimal, but then the rest of the game just doesn't really breath of impact. But hey, make a Cyber Bots witht he kind of adventure, open world or otherwise, and the explosive kind of impacts that HellDivers 2 is bringing, and maybe you'll have a chance. But what do I know? I'm just an aging gamer now who sees the trends over many years, can call whats looking good and coming, gaming since 1984, and managed an arcade for 16 years, and followed the industry pretty close for a very very very long time. Indeed, what do I know? I'd say stay away from CAPCOM folks, unless you wan to spend a horrid amount of a lot of money for less, have those things run out of access before their time, have them sold to you again if you're lucky, then three more times, and all their live service games come with terrible caviots as they ignore their communities for anything other than Street Fighter for even longer than the YEARS they stuck you with SFV. This isn't just my review of a game... but of a company that was once grand, but has fallen from grace into trying to be the next EA... And that's just filthy...
