I don't know what I'm doing at all, I think it needs a remaster and a tutorial to go with it.
"Lords of the Realm" is an ancient game from 1994. It's a whopping 29 years old at the time of this review. The game runs in DOSBOX and lacks support for any modern gaming display resolutions (or widescreen monitors), it runs in VGA only, hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge. It was the first in a series of grand strategy games where you vie against 5 opponents, hotseat humans or AI, to control England and Wales (there was also a German map in the original game but the developers generously decided to screw over gamers and not include the full game in their nostalgia gouge). There's an economy component where you train peasants and plan out mining, agriculture and just try to survive medieval conditions, and if you can manage to do that you can build and equip an army and conquer your neighbours. Combat is an RTS affair, which gives the game an impressive level of depth and variety to rival the game depth of even the Total War series. It's just a shame this is way too old. "Lords of the Realm" is relatively expensive for an abandonware nostalgia gouge, at $2 USD, and it's not worth it. The game is just too old, hasn't been modernised. And as the old saying goes, you can't go home again.
Still by far the best one.
Nice and funny.
great game once you figure it out. watch legend's youtube episodes on playing it
Of all the Lords of the Realm games, this one is probably the most obtuse. It's a really old and dated game, which inspired the much better sequel, Lords of the Realm 2. It was fine in it's day, but honestly, there's a much better alternative. Just play the sequel.
Simple but entertaining game. Loved this game in my youth.
This game is terrible.
