About
A young man named Marcel goes to the mall with his older brother late one afternoon. While wandering around, he quickly finds himself in a bizarre version of the place he was just in. An odd entity in a dark hotel room fills him in on his situation, and it's not looking good -- Marcel has transported himself to an alternate reality, and he's got a long journey back home.
In Lobby Loitering, it's up to you to help Marcel return to his world by exploring the chain of odd hotels he gets transferred to. Help eccentric strangers with their daily problems, discover secrets and lore about the worlds you traverse, and get into plenty of places you shouldn't be in.

As of 2/15/26, Lobby Loitering no longer contains AI generated music. Thank you for bearing with me :D
Feels like a backroom vibes where you loitered too far
Legend has it that deep within the mysterious backrooms, there exists a secret chamber known as the "Animal Parlor." According to the rumor, those who manage to navigate the labyrinthine corridors and stumble upon this hidden enclave will encounter a peculiar sight. Inside the Animal Parlor, one will find an array of rooms filled with empty furniture, just as if they were once occupied by humans. However, instead of people, the rooms are inhabited by a variety of extraordinary, anthropomorphic animals. These creatures possess the ability to talk, walk on two legs, and even showcase their unique personalities. As the story goes, the animals found in the Animal Parlor are not only friendly but also remarkably intelligent. They have formed their own little society, complete with jobs, hobbies, and a sense of camaraderie. There's a rabbit who works as a mischievous comedian, a wise owl who serves as the community's librarian, a stylish fox who is the resident fashionista, and many more charming characters. According to the rumor, if you stumble upon the Animal Parlor and show kindness and respect to the animal residents, they will warmly welcome you into their midst. You might find yourself engaged in delightful conversations, sharing laughter, and even learning a thing or two from these extraordinary animal companions. While some skeptics dismiss this rumor as pure fantasy, others claim to have had firsthand experiences, recounting tales of their encounters with the human-like animals in the backrooms. Whether it's a playful squirrel offering riddles or a sophisticated bear inviting you to tea, the Animal Parlor is said to be a whimsical and heartwarming place that reminds us of the unexpected friendships that can be forged in the most extraordinary circumstances.
Moral of the story. Wait for your brother while he do his stuff in the mall. Don't loiter or you'll be cursed.
Lobby Loitering is a short exploration game set in various hotels across different dimensions. There is good variation in the tone and style of each world. Each world has its own stories to see, and there is some very interesting writing that hints at bigger plots going on in each world. You do not get to see most of them to their conclusion, but it really helps the worlds feel like actual full dimensions. The game has a lot of fun characters to meet. It also explores a lot of different emotions: loneliness, horror, happiness, etc. I definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys going around strange settings.
This was a surprisingly refreshing trip. While the game mechanics are very straightforward and the gameplay linear, I found the world-skipping captivating and the plot very original and entertaining. The "closed door" trope ruins the illusion of choice, but it wasn't bad enough to bother me, since there were enough hidden jokes and eastereggs (f.e. the rock lobster singer) that make world-exploring worthwhile. I actually found the IA music quite good and very fitting for the setting. Good background music for a tumble down the rabbit hole. A+
Short, interesting game. You mostly explore and solve some people's problems for them. In one of the worlds, someone occasionally chases you. Marcel is a fairly nice guy, sometimes he comforts people, even when he would be in his right to be mad at them.
Warning: AI Slop This game is partially or completely made with talentless, soulless AI generated content.
RPG Maker strikes again! "Lobby Loitering" is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. It's worth noting there's bespoke assets used in this RPG Maker garbage, and we can tell that because they look considerably worse than the stock assets that RPG Maker asset flippers like to flip. Notably, the "developer" couldn't work out how to use RPG Maker to make a JRPG (the only thing it can do, and it's terrible at it). Instead, we have a badly made 2D top down narrative/visual novel heavy "adventure" game backed with an AI slop soundtrack. Anyway the concept behind this badly written e-book fan-fiction is a kid called Marcel gets trapped in an RPG Maker pixelcrap slopfest and has to try to escape. The use of AI slop and crappy pixel "art" brings about thoughts of suicide embedded in the narrative of the "game", which is understandable, such low quality games are horribly depressing.. As with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of RPG Maker is to make demos and small games to pass around friends, and shouldn't be used for "professional" game development. Like most RPG Maker shovelware and asset flips, the game features extremely low quality copy + pasted 2D retro pixel art, looks awful, and has even worse gameplay. RPG Maker is an absolutely terrible construction kit, and never results in games of any reasonable quality or value to gamers. Trying to address serious issues such as mental and emotional health through the medium of video games is misguided and can be harmful. While it's plausible to suggest the intention was noble, this can do more harm than good. The "developer" here is not a professional in areas of mental health and social problems, and when they use video games to pretend they are, this is not only utterly ineffective, it can be harmful. It's my opinion that it's improper to use video games to address mental health issues. Apart from the harm such hamfisted attempts at addressing social problems can cause, this offers zero benefit to PC gamers. People suffering from health issues or other social problems should seek out professional help rather than going to crap shovelware video games attempting to get attention/fame by exploiting such problems for their own benefit, as is the case here. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. In terms of public reception, this failed. There's over 130 million unique gamers visiting Steam every month. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 2 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? What's the verdict? Definitely not. This isn't worth it. I'm paraphrasing another reviewer here, but this should be a paid product... they'd have to pay people to download it. The use of AI slop is a direct insult to gamers and real, ethical content creators and artists everywhere.
