Briefly: An enjoyable but short puzzle-platformer with the cutest visuals. With characters reminiscent of Moomin (though that might only be my personal opinion), Lit the Torch introduces a flamy haired protagonist who has the power to "see in the world of memories". Unsurprisingly given the name, they set out to light all the torches in each level.
Lense gimmick
Being a puzzle-platformer, Lit the Torch presents its gimmick: the lense that allows to see into and interact with another world / time. The lense is (at first) activated with mouse and moved by dragging it. The lense is used in refreshingly varied ways: at its simplest it opens ways otherwise blocked. It can also reveal and conceal some enemies (effectively rendering them lethal and not). Some monsters live in both worlds at once, so the lense allows changing their path, leading to some elaborate switch puzzles since the mobs can operate equipment. Later some other common gimmicks are introduced: there's wind that hinders movement; and a twin character that moves when you move enabling cooperation puzzles. Then you lose the lense, instead being constrained to level-specific mechanics, like periodically switching worlds. With the alternating mechanics, some levels can be quite challenging and take several tries before beating them.
Little torch story
Unfortunately, the story feels flat and vague. Part of the reason are the cutscenes: little more than (moderate) walls of text, the screens automatically moved forward before I had time to read them, leaving myself unconfortably bewildered by them. It would be nice if the game waited for a button press instead. I also observed a few typos along the way, further implying slightly rushed execution. Store page explains the background story but it doesn't help much. On the other hand, the visual style is adorable. The story and your relationship with the twin was really cute, even if it didn't feel well explained. Also, while I dared to claim a feeling of it being rushed, I observed no bugs in the gameplay, so perhaps the story execution was merely a quirk of the translation.
Conclusions
Game has common options and a level selection screen, conveniently allowing replaying certain levels for missing achievements or replaying story. Note that, as a minor inconvenience, there is no controller support. While its story was lacking, Lit the Torch gets my kudos for the delightful artstyle, stunning backgrounds and diverse use of the puzzle mechanics. For a $1 game I got 53 levels worth of 2.5 hours of gameplay before being finished. For that price Lit the Torch was a pleasant experience. If you love puzzle-platformers, do get it for an evening-long snack. ~Twistorian Curator~
you may not find revolutionary ideas as per gameplay mechanics, here... but: puzzles are very enjoyable , with little platforming. a few glitches here and there. artstyle is just gorgeous (even more than that, if you also consider the asking price) wonderfully drawn, a little feast for eyes. really hope this will get more positive reviews, cause dev totally deserves them. a perfect gift for puzzle lovers!
Such a smart and clever game. I am normally isnt into platformers like this is; as I have "played them all". (I havent, but alot of them). However this is a puzzle platformer. I love smart & clever games. The artsyle is just gorgeous. ... Conclusion; this game makes me wanna play it to the end. and thats the best thing a game can ever give. Full price? Just perfect and I would not hesitate to recommend anyone into "puzzle games" to get this gem.
From what I have played so far, this game is pretty good. The character design and art is pretty and the way you solve the puzzles is really fun. Um some may have trouble with the little window because as you move, it also moves but that's usually because there is a better way around the obstacle. The controls are simple, the game itself is relaxing and challenges you a little. It doesn't have much of a story but it is exsecuted in a clever way and it is better than a lot of other platformer games I have played.

Morlan's shorts:

Vivid, bright colours and environment, okayish music, good puzzles that get progressively harder. It appears like a cute, kid's play, game, but later on the levels become quite hard. The puzzle element is trying to figure out how to reach the torches between the alternate timelines, so there will be a lot of using that magic square, and the action element is having to synchronise your movement to avoid getting vaporised by the nasties. Fairly short game but at that price it's fine! Plays smoothly without glitches. Don't waste more time reading lengthy reviews.. time is of the essence!
mt bom
