This is fun, quirky Survival Adventure game, if frustrating at times (Typical for this genre). It's not without some jank, polish, some tutorial issues and the controls are not quite intuitive. But once you know what they are, it hardly becomes an issue. You will die or fail, a lot. Usually through starvation, getting eaten by a planet's wildlife or having your ship ripped apart through solar storms that leave you drifting in space to die.. But you learn from your mistakes, get more resources, find a balanced ship that works, and you go again. What is here is already really enjoyable, and is a solid foundation this early in Early Access. The Devs are highly responsive to suggestions and are dropping patches according to even my own and others feedback. So when they say they want to work with their community, this is actually one Dev team who really mean it. Also the humour, music and radio station chatter are brilliant in this game. These elements along with the game as it currently stands make it well worth the price of entry and an easy recommendation!
nice relaxing game, I love it! runs well on linux as well (proton)
i dont know why there's so many positive reviews, you can buy the most expensive ship on the starting planet and get 2/3 the way thru tech tree on the first 1-2 planets, the rest of the game is stopping on planets to cut trees n mine some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ rocks to make fuel to keep traveling to literally the opposite side of the galaxy. the progression ends within an hr and you have to deal with so many raiders who take more of your fuel and rations then $ to just make the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ journey take longer. not even close to being worth $28 what a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ waste
Unique little game. Lead your weird little family of alien refugees across the galaxy and die of hunger and diseases while prosperous locals refuse to let dirty foreigners land, or while pirates do horrible things to your family. 11/10 would die of organ failure again. It can be tricky to get started. But, once you get into the groove, it can also be a very chill experience sailing across the galaxy, listening to the radio, and stopping to farm, hunt, fish, and trade on planets. Stop along the way to visit the great monuments, and maybe you'll be rich by the time you reach Lilith
- Overview - An indie game about navigating you and your family across the universe to a better world. - Story/feel; 4/5 Though there is a ‘story’, the real meat of the game is in the adventure you take, navigating planets, exploring the worlds the game throws at you – wondering how some of these places can exist (for better and worse). It’s hard to tell if the feel of the game is meant to be the hardships that are faced by the people (as the game is set in a post-war world, and you see the reminants of military installations on planets, and imprompetu graves, etc.), but nothing ever really feels that grounded. It’s not bad, it’s just hard to tell what the game is going for. - Gameplay loop(s); 3/5 Land on planet, collect resources to print batteries and potatoes. Batteries to turn into spaceship fuel, and potatoes to turn into rations, or use the resources to unlock the next stage in a tech tree before taking off again, repeating this from planet to planet and you have a decent idea for a game. This game isn’t too taxing, but enough there to keep you thinking a little about your next move. Not quite addicting in a civilisation kind of way, but weirdly enjoyable. - Mechanics; 4/5 While you directly control yourself, you have indirect control over your family members (who, alongside you) have to eat three times a day. While this might seem like an unnecessary drain on your resources and it is better to have fewer (as you pick your family at the start from a LARGE selection of homeworlds, aliens, and family types), you can get each family member to gather specific resources, however doing so may injure the family member, so it’s an enjoyable tradeoff (though honestly, one that’s a little bit overpowered), but the family options also directly impact the games difficulty, which is reflected in the difficulty options. - Music & noise; 4.5/5 For the most part, the game is farily quiet. Being on a planet is devoid of noise outside of diagetic ambiance, animals, and the “mahallo!” from other aliens. On your ship however, you generally have an enjoyable radio show to listen to (which harks back to the radio shows of GTA Vice City for me), as well as what I think are some really awesome songs made specifically for the game (enough that I want to purchase the soundtrack). - Graphics; 2/5 The graphics are just passable. Substance over style for the most part. It’s not going to win any awards, but it gets the job done, and the stylistic flares they have thrown in work nicely. - Overall; 7.25/10 Generated using a weighed scoring system based on my own preferences: Story & Feel: 3.60/4.5 Mechanics: 2.4/3 Music: 0.45/0.5 Graphics: 0.8/2
Has potential. The mechanics for walking and running are frustrating as hell currently, but doesn't dictate the overall idea behind the game. I like the random weirdness vibe it has and look forward to updates!
Really enjoyed my first play through I highly recommend the game! I enjoyed the gameplay loop and the goal of reaching Lilith kept me enticed enough to actually play through it and reach it! One of my favorite parts has to be the radio, the ads are hilarious, I swear I’d wait before going onto a planet so I could hear the whole ad, really wish there was a handheld radio! Now it wasn’t without issue but my issues weren’t game breaking so I’d recommend the game nonetheless. The most annoying issue I had was refueling, anytime I’d convert a fuel cell to fuel it would lock up the game for a few seconds, this was so much worse on a ship with a massive fuel tank it froze for about 6 minutes. This may only be an issue due to me playing at 1080P so take this with a grain of salt, I noticed a lot of the words didn’t look very clear and the game didn’t seem to respect any changes to the resolution so potentially it was running for me under 1080P making text look blurry. The manual specifies any item that is bought or crafted can be dismantled which is not true no item that I bought or crafted gave an option to dismantle so I ended up with a huge inventory of things I didn’t need, also made it difficult as only common resources can be sold to the market the rest must be sold directly to NPCs which you can’t pick the quantity or what it is they’ll just offer to buy a random item from your inventory. I made an exorbitant amount of money and had absolutely nothing to spend it on, the most expensive ship I could find was $41,000 and I had well over $160,000 from hunting primarily and selling extra batteries, the tier 3 items I unlocked via research never ended up in the stores so it kind of made money totally useless after I bought the ship as money’s only purpose was to heal injured family and ship repair which at the point was an insignificant cost. There was no assigned key binding for “Open Manual” and when I finally found a key that wasn’t already set to something it listed the name of the key not the symbol so you had overlapping text over where it should say “Manual” all I could read was “Back:Quote” as I used the back quote key. All in all this game was very shway and I will be replaying it! I would have loved slightly more content maybe a few more ships and the ability to create a custom family would have been awesome but as it stands I think it’s worth the price of admission!
This Odyssey is a work of art. Once you start making progress you wont be able to close the game down, the exploration and discovery keeps you driving. Remember the 7 'P's; "Proper Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance" . The Visual and audio style is beautiful. Honestly, it is a adventure you will not forget. 10/10
Ok, so. This game I feel is a great arcade-style game. You get to your end location through the galaxy whilst watching your supplies of rations and fuel. It can be fairly easy to either grind out the last tier of technology, or bypass the researching by buying certain equipment from traders which saves a lot of time (albeit certain research is needed for creating ammo and such). Earning money is fairly easy. Once you have the latest technology (Three tiers) You can pretty much glide through the entire game with such ease the only danger you have is storms which will only partly damage your ship's equipment. Enemies pose no real threat except from at the beginning when you do know what you are doing. The whole aesthetic and feel of the game is great at the beginning with the radio station on your ship and the different biomes the planet's have. After a handful of hours you notice the planets aren't really that much different, there isn't enough unique creatures or objects to discover spread through a thousand planets. You find yourself wanting to skip to the end planet once you have discovered all you think the game can offer you. There are landmarks in the galaxy like giant structures or a black hole but you can't interact with them at all, you just look at them from your ship in awe as the game tells you "Well done for discovering this, now carry on." That is why I state this is more arcade-style. It is a great game, I enjoyed my time whilst it was fresh but the freshness dies too quickly for a game promising so much uniqueness and size.
