Most will never read this, but I will review the games I find simply and thoroughly.
1 What is "LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes?”
A beat em up / collectathon utilizing Batman, Superman, and a very minor appearance of the Justice League, via a Lego environment in which you build with and interact with Lego. This game is the first to embrace open worlds and voice acting. As such, this is the first Lego game that does not fit the formula of the classics.
2 What does this game play like?
Mostly a puzzle and beat em up style game with semi common shoot em up vehicle levels.
Simple rankings
Story 8/10: The story is funny and wholesome, just like the original. This game does however struggle a bit with the story in two key ways. 1: the misleading title “DC Super Heroes.” This game has the title of “DC Super Heroes” so why then, is it only about Batman, Robin, and Superman? The Justice League might as well not be in this game with how little they appear. 2: The focus on Lex and Joker. This story is focused on the Joker and Lex attempting to take over Gotham. This is a bit lackluster, especially since the original "LEGO Batman The Video Game” had the entire cast of Batman villains to fight. Make no mistake, this is a good, although short, Batman story. If you like Batman, or have a kid too young to play the “Arkham” series, this is great, it just isn’t a masterpiece.
Game play 8/10: The levels are great, although the total story length is VERY short. The open world is the big new feature… and it is… fine. The open world relies on pure aura / vibes, and somehow, it works. The open world is full of basic parkour puzzles for Batman / Robin, plus some “boss fights” (very short) with side villains. It must also be said: the flying / vehicles suck. This is the first attempt at an open world, but flying is clumsy and the vehicles are worthless. (Flying gets better in later open world games, vehicles are only ever good in missions where control is taken away from you to make it more “cool”)
Overall 8/10: This is the departure from the classic formula of pantomime humor and linear missions. This game is no masterpiece, but it is certainly not bad, it is a fun, short, Batman game. TLDR this game is particularity good if you have A: beaten the “Arkham” games and want more. B: have a kid too young for the “Arkham” games.
(Performance tip: Turn on V sync)
(Performance tip 2: I have no idea why this is the case, but the game will lag to an unplayable state if you use anything wireless I.E controller, keyboard, anything. I have no idea why, but you need wired equipment to play this on PC.)
(Performance tip 3: Use “Windows XP (Service Pack 3)" in compatibility mode on the application to help the game run in a stable state.)
