I was lucky enough to get to beta test this game. I've played it all the way through from start to finish and I really enjoyed it. It's important to mention that mechanically, this game is far simpler from a combat perspective than similar looking "early Final Fantasy" style games. Less character classes, less spells, etc. That said, the story and the *really* amazing music make up for it in spades. The end of the game requires a bit of grinding, but it doesn't feel like a chore. It took me 30 hours of game time to beat it, but being a completionist I ground up to max level before going after the final boss. I'm sure you can do it in less time than I did. :) My only piece of advice for you is to save The Trial of the Ancients until after you are able to consistently beat all of the monsters in the Zealous Core. If you like early Final Fantasy style JRPG games, you'll love this. Also, did I mention that the music is amazing?
The debut game of PelleK's Ninja Academy makes you wait for what's next to come. Definitely a great retro RPG with early Final Fantasy games vibes. I started playing the game and got hooked so fast. And of course there is a reason why. A lovely story with the amazing music make you addicted in a flash. Pros -Beautiful music -Nice story to follow -A vast world to explore at your liking Cons -There were some minor problems with the text -Simple mechanics (not exactly a con but surely it could be better) Great experience, worth spending some time trying it and a must for the fans of these kind of games.
I was one of the beta testers of this game, and I've put more than 60 hours into it. I thought I'd leave you guys some tips, (and warnings) before you start getting into Turrin and the Legend of Cenama. Without spoiling too much I want to say you better enjoy it while it lasts, because the chances of us seeing a sequal is as good as 0. Alright. Here are some things to look out for that can help you a bit. No story spoilers, just advice: After beating Firanama, don't go back. Keep going through the mountain and visit Sonaai right away. Farming skeleton packs in the Ancient Ruins with Tupik's is really good for money and exp before you move on to Kaanami. After leaving the Orc Encampment I recommend you go fishing at the Angler's Refuge until you have 1 or 2 Anglers Demise. Stay away from Knoff the Bald Orc. He's too strong, it's like a cruel joke. Get full Jura Set gear from the Jura Encampment before you start farming the Zealous Core Don't visit the Trial of Ancients before you've already gotten some end-game items from the Zealous Core. I'm not going to say why, but you'll see. I think you'll have an amazing time with this game. I loved it so much I had to play it through one more time after I finished it. Towards the end the decisions you make impact everything you did from the first second so much it's a bit painful, and I think when you get to the point of no return (again and again) you either love it, or hate it. I personally love it. It's a cruel game in many ways, but that's exactly what makes it unforgettable, and highly re-playable.
This is a solid game for the developer's first try! There are some problems with the text boxes, where around 80% of the time in more "cutscene" moments (longer conversations that isn't just one box) the first two or three boxes don't load, as well as most text boxes in combat. It can still be funny, though, and is the biggest issue with the game. Otherwise, it's a fun RPG with some small strategy to it that emulates the feel of older RPGs like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. Oh, and the music is amazing! The guy who spearheaded the game is a musician by trade, and as such, his compositions in this game are invigorating and easy to get into!

Full Disclosure: I backed this game on Kickstarter. I'm not sponsored or anything, but I do have an oh-so-snazzy statue. Minute-121: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/33092202-Minute-121/ So far, Legend of Cenama is a pretty good game, though it isn't without its flaws. Not being able to re-enter the Catatonia Cavern was annoying, and a misaligned sign in the cave was just egregious. I also think the item drop rates are a little too generous, though that might just be good luck on my part. The Ring of Life seems a bit overpowered, and the fact that you can get two of them so quickly either doesn't bode well or is a signal that it's only a really good item in the early game. That the game just drops you into the forest with little context of what's going on is a big knock against it, as first impressions are everything. And will someone please tell me why the King of Cenama wants to talk to you, personally? Actually, don't. Maybe it's a spoiler. Fullscreen would also be nice. JRPGs seem to be one of the "love them or hate them" genres, and while I tend to love them, I know full-well that isn't universal. If you're on my side of that fence, and you don't necessarily need a huge challenge, you'll definitely want to at least give Legend of Cenama a try. Give it a shot, and feel free to go Beyond Minute-121.
Legend of Cenama is a fun-loving and free-spirited throwback to initial Final Fantasy games. On that note, stark similarities are apparent throughout. Not least so, when it comes to core systems and mechanics. Though that may be true, Legend of Cenama can announce its arrival on the RPG genre with plenty of pride. Mainly, thanks to its swirling story, imaginative world-building concepts, and a genuinely mesmeric OST. In what is a faithful homage to the classic RPGs of old. But also, it draws upon elements from many popular games such as Pokemon, Final Fantasy, and Shining Force. Legend of Cenama is an action-adventure RPG played from the overhead perspective. Kind of what nostalgic genre-buffs refer to as a traditional, top-down, turn-based RPG. Very much a retro-styled game, in all but a few aspects. Additionally, the visuals go some way in complimenting this format. One element that genuinely shines out is the graphics. For me, the vibrant 2D textures and vivid character sprites add plenty of pop, injecting the game with immense personality. All the while, giving Legend of Cenama, an identity, in its own right. Also, the bold pixels and jagged polygons hark back to a by-gone era — very much reminiscent of archaic RPG's. Or, to phrase that another way; Legend of Cenama is highly pleasing on the eye, in a bright and bubbly kind of way. Above all else, the soundtrack is the star attraction. Truly fantastic. On that note, each soaring melody matches any action manifesting on the screen. Meaning, there's are a real sense of awe and wonder which envelopes you with each upcoming settlement. So much so, that I had no choice, but to explore every corner and crevasse of each passing town. In short, these glitchy beats add plenty of atmosphere and ambiance, at every turn. And thus, do an excellent job of cementing the tone in certain sections. While in others, the mellifluous scores issue that fond, homely feeling that derives from an attachment to a person or place. The OST is, without a doubt, my favorite facet of the game. Of course, exploration is a fundamental feature of any RPG and a substantial motivating factor for many. And thankfully, Legend of Cenama ticks all the appropriate boxes in that regard. Well, for the most part, anyway. On my travels, I ventured far from the beaten track, unearthing long lost treasure, unique weapons & armor, secret passages, and random monsters. For instance, there's the small matter of the stray mummy/zombie, spewing obscene nonsense outside of the Ancient Ruins. Without meaning to give the entire game away, this was a foe, that I massively underestimated, to my detriment. I'm sure you'll see why. One thing you'll notice, as you plot your course through Cenama, is the simple, easy-to-use U.I. An interface, ideally navigable for both newbies and veterans, and one that's effortless to master. Concerning the controls, I played with a gamepad, and within 5 mins, the control scheme had become second nature. I can't speak for the keyboard and mouse combo, however. But, all in all, my experience was a notably good one. Also, the contextual menu tabs and stat indicators are, structured in such a way, that you gain a grasp of the layout relatively quickly. At least, that's the impression I got. Also, the ability to sprint through dungeons. And, the option to pick and choose between battles, prevents a lot of hassle, in what would otherwise be deeply anxious moments trying to escape claustrophobic lairs. Fighting for your life with minimal health points, only to get involuntarily dragged into another dust-up. Although, that does eliminate some of the challenge. But I for one, prefer it this way. From start to finish the game rarely holds your hand. And while there are items that strongly aid your cause, you'll meet a fair share of fearsome foes. All of which seemingly obstruct progress, and stop you in your tracks. On the surface, these may seem like unfair grind walls, strategically placed to help you advance in level. That is, before a critical stage or boss. But, I found a decent challenge on more than one occasion. Often, requiring a reshuffle of my inventory items to come out victorious. Alternatively, I'd seek out new sword, staffs, and shields from the armory, trying out various combinations. And, often, these subtle changes worked wonders on the battlefield, instilling an enormous sense of satisfaction. Lastly, we have the story. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the strength of the narrative on offer here. The Legend of Cenama follows the exploits of protagonist Toktok, who, soon discovers that people are mysteriously vanishing across Cenama. From then on, Toktok is tasked by order of the king, to investigate, and put a stop to, the plethora of disappearances plaguing Cenama. Along the way, you'll add fresh recruits to your roster, begin a blossoming romance, and fight for the sheer survival of the planet amidst, a dark and everpresent, existential threat. The plot is propelled further thanks to an array of dialogue options, and unique speech trees. As the game progresses and the plot thickens, especially towards the tail end, choices carry drastic consequences, profoundly impacting the outcome of the game. I enjoyed these choice-based elements immensely. Legend of Cenama is a spirited love-letter to the legendary RPG's of old, and overall, I came away wholly satisfied with the final result. Fans of old-fashioned RPG's should add this game to the collection. In truth, there's more than enough content here to warrant the price tag, twice over. Grab a bargain today!

Retro vibes coming right at you! Really fun game, unfortunately not for me. I am not the "love pokemon and zelda" type of guy. If you enjoyed them you're likely to do it with this game. Works probably better with a pad. Controlling with a keyboard or mouse was so confusing for me. Few small bugs, but that doesn't change much.
