Despite being in Early Access, the core mission of this game really shines through - enjoying a tough-but-fun roguelike deckbuilding experience while tricking your brain into learning Japanese! Having zero Japanese language experience, it's amazing how fast I was able to begin memorizing Kana just through the base gameplay loop. I'm a big fan of Slay the Spire and this play pretty similarly while still being "its own game," so I would highly recommend it for fans of STS that also want to dip their toes into learning a little Japanese in a competitive atmosphere.
Please add a section for just knowing verbs in dictionary form and later conjugating them as an optional part but words in Japanese and getting them correct like vocab. And another area for adjectives. I’m currently studying Japanese in a class with the genki books so I’m hoping u use vocab words that’s in that and verbs and stuff
Decisamente piacevole da giocare!
This game offers a unique approach to learning japanese. The card-based combat system and the need to answer questions to charge the action bar ass a playful and educational dimension. I recommend it.
moar updats pls
The game plays like slay the spire with a twist on doing Japanese quizzes to get energy on your turn. In the current state the game has many issues, there are bugs (i.e. the card that breaks enemy amor does not work at all), the presentation feels low quality and most importantly the card you decide to study are not randomized. It has potential and it can be fun, but it needs a lot of work. That being said, the review is still positive because if you know what you are getting and you are just looking for a different study tool, it does its job even in its current state.
Fun game, feels a lot more like playing than just studying or memorizing. I really enjoy it, even outside of the learning Japanese aspect. The art is nice, music is good, and the gameplay is engaging. My main complaint is that it seems a little unbalanced. Even if you get your Japanese questions correct all the time, some of the enemies are incredibly strong (very high HP, powerful attacks) and unless you have enough shields to block them, it's pretty easy to die especially when you face the first big boss and beyond. I think if it were a bit better balanced and enemies matched your level better when you are just starting out and only have so much HP / so many powerful cards, it'd be a ton better. Overall though, just for the fun of learning and practicing the Japanese, I would recommend it!
So this is a very simple Slay-The-Spire clone that is made to teach you Japanese on N5 and a bit of N4 level. I have to say it has good mnemonics in its library, provides all the learning material you need and forces memorization into you with the (clunky feeling, but acceptable) gameplay loop. It is more fun and less exhausting than using Anki or other learning apps, so it does deliver, but of course this is an additional learning resource only - although a complete, good and fun one if your goal is to master N5 level. I would recommend it to get going into your Japanese learning journey, it certainly does help me so far!
Fun educational game so far.
very nice game
