while there are a few frustrating elements, i found this game to be full of heart and charm, and it's overall an excellent time. the graphics and music are great and the puzzles are all satisfying to solve. it's fun to see the play area unfold and become more familiar with traversing it as the game goes on, and the game is pleasingly paced and ends exactly when it needs to without overstaying its welcome. judging by the credits this game is mostly made by one person, which is frankly incredible. i look forward to anything this developer releases in the future!
Terrible, especially for the asking price. This game is a whole bunch of Jank, which you can forgive to some extend because of it's old school getup, obviously. While most of it is "manageable" and I basically tolerated it because of the unique concept, the final boss is such a damn jankfest, combined with every bad design choice ever made in gaming history, that it finally put that last nail in the coffin for this game. It's not charming jank, it's just horrible design nonsense with the same three enemies spammed everywhere, mixing it up only rarely with two, iirc, other ones. (One of them being the big stone tablet you see in the store page. The control scheme is terrible enough, but some attacks you take hits from even if you block which is like "why"? It feels terrible, do not be fooled by the supposed old school charm of this game.
Pretty boring gameplay and story wouldnt recommend this game to anyone.
//ENGLISH// 9.8/10 Game reminiscent of old Survival Horror sagas like Resident Evil or my favorite and immortal sagas...Silent Hill and a bit of Fatal Frame.

Recomendaciones totales: N/A.
I'll start off with the things I do not like about this game, so you'll know what to look out for if you're interested in trying it. First of all, enemies respawn way too frequently, and their animation for doing so is so quick that they can spawn on top of you and hit you immediately. Second thing is that some areas, especially the last area of the game, has way too many enemies at once, making you need to counteract each one almost perfectly within the span of seconds. Last thing is the rarity of health items toward the end, I was left limping around being able to survive only one hit, which meant I had to restart multiple times and avoid enemies perfectly to even get any progress. It really made me not want to play that end section at all, it wasn't fun to die so often and have to time everything perfectly. Also what's up with the two proficiency achievements? From what I've heard you have to finish the entire game without saving once and never getting hit. Yeah it sure lives up to the name of full proficiency, but what was the thought process behind making it that difficult? Now that those things are out of the way I'll actually talk about what I do like. Kwaidan obviously takes place in Showa era Japan and involves religion in its story, for example all the enemies are youkai. The story is quite simple and easy to follow, it has some depth to it but not a lot, which isn't in a bad way, I do like it. I had that ps1/ps2 era feeling over it all while playing, the graphics match that era, the clunky controls, and the puzzles set around the manor too. Weirdly enough it made me think of a different Japanese ps2 game, called Siren, cause the combat was a bit similar between the games, along with some well hidden puzzles. I based this review off of the Origin mode, as it was the first one I played through, I'm not sure which one is the intended one to play first, but it's what I chose. Despite the shortcomings this game has, and the kind of obnoxious last area in the game, I still recommend this if you're interested in this kind of setting and atmosphere. I hope the developed can improve from it and make even better games later.
Extremely charming little game, one of the few modern retro games that really hits the mark.
I really enjoyed this game. It's very simple and offers straight-forward survival horror conventions, but at times can be frustratingly difficult. It requires a fair bit of tenacity, but after much trial and error, the solutions become a breeze. (I had the same experience playing Kareteka (1984, Apple II) or Rygar (1986, NES) as a kid. You come to difficult stages that will make or break the player. Beating the game felt like a major accomplishment, to my 10 year-old self.) This is the sort of game that is perfect for younger or novice survival horror players, as there really isn't any bloodshed, and the monster design isn't too scary. It's a great primer for survival horror, perhaps leading to playing Resident Evil and ultimately to conquering Forbidden Siren. I bought it on sale, and feel I definitely got my moneys worth. If this designer made another chapter, I would buy it.
This is a good game IF you have love in your heart for jank PS1 survival horror. Great atmosphere. Short bite size game. There is a bit of a curve on enjoyment because of the jank. There is also a lot of back tracking and mechanics that feel a bit pointless. Some advice, when ever you run into a save spot while advancing, just save. You have so much resources for saves. Also its best to fight the enemies head on. There isnt any resource management like resident evil. Also you will have to take pics or screen caps of your screen for 2 puzzles. Or look up the info on a guide. There a lot of little weird warts. There is no pause menu. The point n click aspect is annoying. There is an upgrade system that I think is just there as filler. The first person camera is inconsistent, sometimes its Haruka's perspective or the direction of the fixed camera. Despite my complaints I still found the overall experience very fun.
