Koropokkur in Love ~A Little Fairy’s Tale~ is a short kinetic visual novel with romance and comedy elements, developed by MangaGamer, a company quite famous in the VN community for translating and publishing lots of adult games. This is their first original project ever released. Which is a bit unusual I must say since Koropokkur is an all-ages visual novel, and as I've previously said, this company usually releases R18 titles. I'm not complaining, though. Sometimes it's nice to read something different, at least in my opinion. I was personally very excited when they announced the production of this game through Kickstarter. I've read a bit about the legend of Koropokkur from the Ainu folklore years ago, and I was curious to see how this little game would handle it. Asirrera is a tiny fairy living in a Koropokkur village in Hokkaido. She dreams of seeing the human world, and maybe, even falling in love with a human as well. After gathering all her courage, she's able to use her magic to turn herself into a full-sized human girl, and finally, she ends up in Akihabara. Being very clumsy and unaware of her surroundings, she unintentionally ends up ruining an event hosted at a maid café called Petit Fille. Satoru, the owner of that café, ends up losing lots of potential customers. Therefore, his last effort to save his business is over. Asirrera feels guilty about it, and then she decides to help Satoru to rebuild the reputation of his café. As long as the story goes, we also get to meet two more Koropokkur: Cirta and Haruante. They are Asirrera's friends, and they also become maids at the Petit Fille. The story itself is light and cheerful, and somewhat predictable too. There are seven chapters plus an epilogue. It's a nice read if you're in the right mood, and if you're a fan of cute comedies, you'll probably enjoy it in the same way I did. On the other hand, there isn't exactly anything that makes this visual novel unique. Sure, the story is cute, the art is nice, etc. But, to me, it feels that something is missing here, and I'm not sure what it is. I'm not talking about the lack of R18 content. It's really something related to the actual plot. It doesn't mean that this story is bad, though. In the end, it just feels like a generic happy story
with a bittersweet ending
. Anyway, the pacing of the narrative is pleasant, and little by little, you're able to grow fond of the relationship between Asirrera and Satoru. The dialogues kind of drag around on certain scenes. Nothing too annoying, though. Haruante and Cirta are also very cute, but they don't have enough screen time compared to Asirrera. Let's talk about the art. The artist here is Hinoue Itaru, a well-known artist for illustrating great VNs such as CLANNAD, Little Busters!, Harmonia, etc. Her style may not please everyone, and you can easily recognize it by looking at her characters faces: they all have huge eyes. I'll be honest and admit that I'm not really a fan of her art style. But, I think it kind of fits in Koropokkur: this is a heartwarming story, everything is pretty much "innocent and pure", etc. It didn't bother me so much in the end, but I'm not sure that other people can agree with this. Anyway. The BGM is good, the songs are pleasant and they help to set in the mood for certain scenes. The UI, on the other hand, is very simple... I think that a little more effort could've been put in. You also cannot adjust the opacity of the text box, which can be a nuisance for some people. There are also some bugs going on: so far, I've encountered one related to simply going through the story. At some point, I couldn't keep progressing as the game wouldn't let me, and the only way out was to close everything and restart it from my last save or from the beginning. This happened to me twice in chapter two. The only thing that I disliked about this title is the fact that it isn't voiced. I know, it's a debut project, but adding VA to this novel would've been fantastic. Hopefully, MangaGamer will consider this in a near future. The narrative and dialogues are written in fairly simple English in this game, which makes it a quick read. I also don't recall seeing grammatical errors. Oh, and it took me nearly four hours to finish this novel. 7/10. Despite its flaws, I honestly enjoyed this visual novel. It was nice to read and the characters were cute. It's far from perfect, but still, I think it's worth checking it out. Since it's a bit short, I recommend getting this game on a sale.

An important note: this is a kinetic visual novel, so there are no choices to be made and only one ending. I have already played a lot of games published by MangaGamer: some were mediocre at best (His Chuunibyou Cannot Be Cured!), some were great (Supipara and Cho Dengeki Stryker), and some were pure gold (The House in Fata Morgana and Umineko When They Cry). Koropokkur in Love ~A Little Fairy’s Tale~ is a bit unique – it was not only published by MangaGamer but also made by them. This is one of the reasons why I did not know what kind of quality to expect. On the one hand, MangaGamer has dealt with a lot of visual novels and should know how they work and what kind of games and stories players really like; on the other hand, this is their first step in the industry as a developer, and we all know that “the first step is always the hardest”. Now let us look at my ideas about Koropokkur in Love ~A Little Fairy’s Tale~ and decide together what kind of game it is and if you might want to try it out for yourself. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1539149942
Changing the world’s course is not an easy task
There is a special secret world that is inhabited by Little People who are as small as your palm. Koropokkur is their name, which means *people leaving under butterbur leaves*. Little People used to be friends with humans and helped them by using their magical powers. However, at some point, Koropokkur had to go their separate way, and now they are forbidden from coming to our world. A young fairy called Asirrera, or just Rera for short, wants to see this mysterious other world with her own eyes and she is not afraid of the consequences. Using her magical powers, Rera turns into a beautiful human woman and comes to Tokyo. At some point, her attention is caught by a delicious smell and she goes towards it…just to ruin a presentation of a maid café by destroying all the food and equipment. How can one girl cause such a disaster? Magic! Segawa Satory, the owner of the maid café, does not know what to do while this presentation was his last chance to save the business. Is it the end of his dream? But no, wait! This is a fairy tale, after all. Rera offers to help him and becomes a member of the café’s staff. Soon she is joined by her two fairy friends, Haru and Cirta. But will they be able to save the day? And what is Rera’s real purpose that made her risk everything and come to the human world? Maybe Satoru is the key to this mystery? https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1539082176
Good and Bad and Neutral

First, what I liked:
- Personally, I liked the artwork. I understand that it might be not everyone’s cup of tea, and you can notice one negative review that mentions “same face and bulging eyes everywhere”. As for me, Koropokkur in Love has very cute art style and all characters look lovely. I also do not think that girls looked the same and it was not difficult to tell them apart. Their chibi forms are just adorable. Speaking about CGs and backgrounds, they are very beautiful! They seem to be hand-drawn, and I always appreciate artists who do not overuse 3D-models and pictures. I should also mention that each scene is very bright and colorful, which makes the game even more fairylike; - Characters are very likeable. They are quite simple and you will recognize their personality immediately while many of them are used in visual novels more often than not. At the same time, each girls gets enough development throughout the story, so they are not just some generic pictures that come up in the story just to fill in the empty space. Rera can be very naïve, but she is also a kindhearted girl that has not yet forgotten how to dream; Haru (Haruante) is a more serious person than her bubbly friend is, but she also has her cute sides; and Cirta is very lively and sometimes a bit careless, but she is also a very loyal friend; - The men of the story, Satory, is very dedicated and is not focused solely on young girls as many main characters in visual novels are. He wants to make people happy and is ready to work hard to achieve his dream. This is what I really liked about him; - There is a Gallery that contains every CG you open. And you can look at each picture as soon as you get it in the game. Another great feature is the Music Library where you can listen to all soundtracks; - The last thing that I can mention among good points is the humor. This game has some quality jokes and made me laugh. Some fell flat, of course, but for the most part, I enjoyed reading about the funny moments.
Neutral parts:
- First, the user interface is quite minimalistic. There are just several options to choose from, like message speed and window size. So, I would call this visual novel a basic one rather than something advanced like some of the recent games. Buttons and menu design are very simple, too; - Second, the story itself may be cute, but it is pretty generic despite all the magical parts. There are no major plot twists and nothing groundbreaking to make the game unique. Even Little Mermaid had almost the same outline, as well as half of other Disney stories and just general fairy tales. If you expect something dramatic, with a lot of intrigue and *wow* moments, then no, this is not a game for you. Still, if you are looking for something light-hearted with a bit of drama and a lot of comedy, then Koropokkur in Love is actually a very entertaining game and I think you will love it. The game itself is also very short – just about 3-5 hours depending on how fast you read it; - I am a bit sad that side-characters do not have any sprites or pictures at all. We can only see their names above the text line, which is not bad, of course. Many visual novels cannot afford artwork for every character. But it would be lovely to see maids in the maid café and some other people; - The music is just…OK, I guess. I did like the track in the main menu, but other ones are not that memorable. Not to mention that there are not many of them at all. So I would describe music in the game as *nothing special*. The opening and endings songs are nice, though.
Now the things I did not like:
- The Log option. Yes, you can see the previously read text, but only a part of it. As you go further into the game, you will sometimes need to check this or that information. Well, good luck to you. If you are in chapter two, you will never be able to find any way to read text from chapter one; - Transferring to different menus takes some time, so it might look as they are freezing a bit. For example, try to save your game and you will see what I am talking about. Smoother animations would look better, to be honest. - While this is a kinetic novel, you cannot influence the outcome of the story. This is a bit sad while all three female characters are very lovely, and personally, I liked Haru more than Rera. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1539150393
What Do We Have in the End
If you want to get some rest from serious stories and dramatic series/films/games/insert whatever you want here, then Koropokkur in Love ~A Little Fairy’s Tale~ is a good choice. There are both funny and sad moments, a pure love story, a bit of magic, and some daily routine that even fairies have to deal with. If you want something breathtaking and new, then this game will most probably disappoint you. All in all, I can recommend Koropokkur in Love to people who love romantic stories that leave tears on your eyes after you complete them, but do not make you feel an emotional roller-coaster while playing. It is a bit expensive for its length, to be honest, so I would recommend waiting for a sale. + Cute art + Dual language - Uninteresting story. - Keyboard controls are limited to advance text and skip, no way to open the backlog or hide the textbox. - No option to change the textbox's opacity/transparency. - Unity's command line to set fullscreen as "exclusive", doesn't works*. * One has to manually edit two entries in windows' registry to make it works and it will stop working if one leave fuscreen.

I was a supporter of Koropokkur in Love during its kickstarter campaign. Though I was excited that it was MangaGamer's first game as I have always supported their VNs, I have been sorely disappointed. Hinoue Itaru was the artist for this game, meaning that she has her special same face and bulging eyes everywhere. I'll never understand how people think this artstyle is cute. Though the base game on Kickstarter was $15, you could pay an extra $15 for the production booklet and soundtrack. I receieved it a couple days ago and I feel COMPLETELY ripped off. There were seven pages in the book, two of them being the front and back. Within the booklet, there were character concepts and lineart...which were already shown on MangaGamer's blog and kickstarter. Aside from one page of backgrounds, there was nothing new. For the soundtrack, all of the music was already avaliable in the game as a collection. Meaning that there was no purpose to buy the soundtrack in the first place. THIRTY DOLLARS. I demand a refund, but the kickstarter was months ago. Koropokkur in Love ~A Little Fairy’s Tale~ - новая и крайне симпатичная визуальная новелла от известного издателя, игры которого полюбились многим.
