Kitsune

Solid 8.5/10. I'd put an additional content warning for Gaslighting, it's extremely aggressive in one part of the story. [spoiler]Calling it the Doki Doki Literature Club of CoG games would not be entirely inaccurate.[/spoiler] The writing is very funny, and I found the overall plot pretty compelling once I accepted that it isn't actually a romance story. There's for sure romance in it, and I would've appreciated a lot more of it, but it's ultimately a surrealist thriller. The ways it plays with the UI of the CoG framework to tell its story is pretty innovative, and there's a couple of slick tricks it pulls that are downright spooky. I'd recommend it if you're looking for a concise and compelling supernatural mystery, AND/OR you've played a lot of CoG games and want to see what boundaries can be pushed.

This is NOT a romance, and I wouldn't have bought it had I known that.

去年beta阶段在论坛读完就特别特别中意的故事，一部写给社畜的童话。最近正在纠结是否要离职，于是赶来重温一遍来治愈自己。 因为是童话似的的故事，里面个别反面角色比较符号化，最终的主题也落在爱和自由上（并非单纯是爱情，本作可以明确扮演AroAce主角），去爱，去信任，去挣脱一切旧日链接的束缚。而这正是我所喜欢的，首位一一呼应，圆环般完整。 除此之外的部分，如果玩过同作者的Evertree Saga就会知道，作者完全是写复杂情感&复杂立场角色以及复杂且细腻关系的大师，每次都会百分百被里面半真半假的钓系RO钓成翘嘴，然后心甘情愿步入杀猪盘；同时MC扮演起来非常自由，针对各种事件都会有很多反应可以选择，整部下来真的心情跌宕起伏！ 下面就是针对RO的重大剧透： [spoiler]狐狸这个角色几层反转的落点我太爱了，从不谙世事的人外，到捉摸不透的谜语人，最后到只是一个想要活命的懦弱傀儡。对MC的爱和渴望是真的，但为了自己的利益、从未停止执行将MC引上死路的计划也是真的，唯独没想到MC远比ta预料中更坚定也更强大。所以MC结局伸出手，邀请ta再次和自己孤注一掷跳下高楼时，这次狐狸没有拒绝：就这样一起逃走吧，把整个世界和一尘不变的生活留到身后，只剩我们彼此。我一向无法抗拒这样的结局！[/spoiler]

Very good. Read Spector's review, it solidified my choice to get the game after playing the demo. I love me a CoG/Hosted Game that doesn't force me to min-max in and the like. It just lets you take the wheel on a deep and compelling story. Also love me a story where I get to feel both pathetic and cool.

This is... probably, one of the best stories in games I've ever read. It has very classic feel, and shows expertly why contact with a spirit world is both terrifying and exhilarating for humans in legends. Also, it's a story of love. And of kitsune, of course.

To a point it is fun; to match wits against a creature of deceit and lies, to enjoy the company of a manic fox dream girl, to never forget how they tempt monks but to tie the story so closely to a character that to me wears out their welcome by the end to act 1 means everything after falls flat. Act 2 is fine but also where the cracks become apparent, up until then there's moments of "that doesn't fit with how my character is" and "all of these options are illusions of choice" which in a way could be said to be a good thing depending on how one wishes to promote this but for myself it reinforced my doubling down on choices; Act 3 however is a mess that can be summed by an option you yourself can pick "this feels like a cop-out", perhaps i did something wrong but there was no buildup, no foreshadowing let alone an emotional connection to any of the characters (aside from one instance which was loathing). It doesn't leave me with a "i wasted my time" feeling but with the message it suddenly decides to jam down your neck at the end fall flat all the while the epilogue forcing me into a romance i didn't set flags for did feel like getting spat on I suppose in a way this game/story does fit the message, to me it's nothing, it doesn't soar to great heights nor is it so bad so as to request a refund, it lays simply in the middle of light and dark

Ugh, I wish Kitsune were less human-like and more of an anthropomorphic animal/fox. Why is it that whenever someone writes about fantasy creatures, they always end up looking just like regular humans with minor animal traits—like ears or a tail... Man, I wish just once someone would write a proper story with romance where the love interest is nothing like a human—totally different anatomy and behavior. The story is about a guy whose house gets crashed by a bratty kid who thinks they’re a fox. Now, the main character has to babysit the little troublemaker because his conscience won’t let him dump the child at an orphanage. If kitsune actually looked like a fox, his personality would make total sense in the story. But the way it is now, I just can’t see him as anything more than a regular annoying human.

It was a huge mistake to sit down to read this story late at night. It was impossible to tear myself away from it. The plot itself, the unexpected plot twists, the characters, especially Fox, made me experience a storm of emotions. The author's humor and positive messages through the characters' conversations left a very pleasant aftertaste. Yes, unfortunately, if you follow the path of one chosen LI, the other characters are not particularly revealed, but let's consider that this is an excellent motivation for replaying. 10/10 Oh yes, stat screen... this is the first novel in which I opened it so often and with such excitement in the last chapters! A masterpiece.

I should have listened to the other negative reviews, so I'll let my own review as a warning to potential buyers. I didn't finish my first run after 4 hours of play, as the game became heavy and depressing, and that's certainly not what I look for in game. If you don't mind that, go ahead, but if you're looking for a light, mischievious and sexy adventure with a Kitsune theme, this one isn't that.
