About
---Even if that love is a blade that cuts “now”.
I want to play with you for years to come. I want to play with you for years to come...”
I won't let you go.”
I have heard these words somewhere before. Words that someone had said to me a long time ago.
A mysterious academy deep in the mountains, far from the city.
The only thing that is measured there is whether or not a person possesses the qualities of morbid love.
As you spend your time at the school, your peaceful life will change into a blood-soaked day of corpses and rivers of blood...

cute yandere romance vn. i liked momoko lots but didn't really like the direction taken with her yandere-isms, the twink made up for it though :> ending spoilers
usually not a big fan of harem stuff but i think the way the ending handled it was very tasteful and i ended up actually quite liking it!
english translation needs a LOT of work, there's a lot of spelling/grammar/perspective issues- i eventually got used to it but other than that, can't say i disliked it (story was a bit flat, but later reveals add a LOT of context that was previously needed and definitely help). anyways: momokooo<3333

(CONTAINS SPOILERS) Syutyaku Gakuen, or Obsession School, is a dream fantasy for most chronically online men, and I think I can say that with very little pushback. Developed and published by mokosoft, it's part of a supposedly growing trend of indie developers. mokosoft, for itself, feels definitely more underground and unknown, with most of its success coming from Japan itself, or from the game I'm reviewing today. Their most successful products, however, still remain weird, abstract, yet weirdly beautiful and well-produced games. If I we're to say anything before I started this review, it would be that this game made me more interested in purchasing games from mokosoft. Eitherway, one thing: I did make an original review for this, but I decided to update it. Parts of it we're kept throughout the review. I guess the only hard part is where to start with this. I found the game while scrounging around, looking for less popular visual novels that occasionally appear on the English side of the Steam Store. It wasn't the thumbnail (which I think is the first thing most people see) that enticed me: instead, it was the tags. I called ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, saying the Steam community's tendency to tag pretty normal games with "psychological horror" "war" "world war two", etc. I am proud to say it the tags were true. As the title, thumbnail, and the tags suggest, this "Obsession School" has a lot more underneath it. The story is remarkably short for what I assumed would've been a ten hour read. Our character, John Targetofall, is a pretty average teenager, which attends a pretty average Japanese rural school, until he suddenly gets mail from the titular Obsession School, both inviting him to the school, with a warning that the government themselves have stated that he must. Aside from the very forced introduction, our character recounts the many rumors he's heard from the school: your forced to be alone, your not allowed to leave campus grounds, and it's a boarding school until you graduate. Brave man that he is, he just dusts all of the red flags aside and steels himself for the experience ahead. There, he meets our four paranoid fanatics (as the devs themselves have referred to the characters). As per their character archetypes, they are all obsessive in some way towards our John, each of them with their own unique ways of trying to get attention from you: from trying to constantly be near you, constantly attempting to give gifts, constantly trying to isolate you, and trying to be annoying as possible. The plot has a rather quick escalation; a majority of the time is dedicated entirely to character introductions and pre-switch foreshadowing, with some characterization. Everything reaches its high point after a school festival, where our character briefly achieves insanity, and in this fever dream state, frantically picks one of the four love interests to follow. Whichever one you pick, will lead you down their unique journey. No spoilers though, play the game. First off, I do like the story. Even though story progression is often forced, and the game suffers some crucial writing mistakes which I did laugh about (constant foreshadowing, to name one), I do like the writing nonethless. Maybe that's because I am a sucker for games like these, which somehow are rare despite their being a high population who have a taste for Denpa or Yandere, but the writing in itself is servicable and doesn't face complete breakdown. The art style is also entirely unique. It's something I see most people comment on-that the art in this game is unique, and doesn't feel like other visual novels released by larger game developers. I share this, a main reason I did pick up this game and notice it was the unique art style. It seems that the developers themselves have a good grip on art nonetheless, with all CGs having excellent art for them (you can browse a selection on the store page), and the backgrounds being nice and comfortable. And final praise, the characters themselves. Usually, the Yandere trope is expressed in two ways: immediate, incredible lust, or, immediate, violent torture lust. This game, shockingly, has only one character that would fit in with the usual trope, and most of the characters are rather contained, more obviously weird, but still self contained about their emotions until the fever dream. Almost all of the characters have positives and negatives to them, with only one being weirdly unreasonable, and even he has the redemptive trait of being able to reason with you. Some obvious critiques though: the translation. Terrible. From my original review: "The worst translation of any game I've seen in my life. I thought I saw the worst when I bought plastic translations from Russian game markets, but this is one to write home about. If this game had a fan translation, or if the developers hired a translator for the English (I'm not sure of the state of the Simplified Chinese) translation, the only real problem remaining might be the overall rushed feeling of the paths (both before and after the twist), and a bit of more writing expanding on the relationship of the character to the protagonist." That sums it up. The story's primary downside is the terrible translation, something most of mokosoft has been critiqued for. I hope they're not ignoring the western audience (but saying most of their popularity is from Japan, I can understand why they do), but I'm hopeful for the next mokosoft title that releases. Overall, 8/10. The primary downside is the translation and the forced story, but the game otherwise is perfect. If your looking for "morbid love", you'll find it here. If your looking for games that would be described as Denpa or Yandere, this is it. It's nice getting this gem of a game as a refresher, especially due to the broader genre's dominance by either barely hidden pornography, or by Doki Doki Literature Club. You do need some poor translation tolerance, but if your already deep-diving for good games, then you most likely have some tolerance. I wish mokosoft success on their future endeavors, and good luck for the broader development team.
Peak
有点细思极恐,不过作为小众游戏,喜欢无厘头和病娇,打折入了还是很推荐的
the translation has multiple errors but its understandable because the creator is not fluent in english. putting that aside, the art is really beautiful & it really is a fun read
