After already enjoying Kirakira Stars Idol Project Ai, I knew I had to see more of Nobuyuki and Ai. Fortunately, the journey with both of them isn't over yet and the series continues with Kirakira Stars Idol Project Nagisa. Like the first game, the idol theme was always interesting to me and despite not being very familiar with it, I think games that revolve around idols are quite unique as I didn't see a lot of those games yet. Anyway, there is a demo available here as well that allows the player to play through half of the visual novel. Like the first game, I was unsuccessful at applying to 18+ patch to the game, and thus, this review will solely based on my experience with the all-ages version. That being said, I still feel like sexual content might be off to me in this series as it doesn't revolve around fanservice at all. It's important to mention that Kirakira Stars Idol Project is an episodic visual novel series with Kirakira Stars Idol Project Ai being the first game in the series. Although it's technically possible to start with Nagisa right away, some events might end up being confusing to the player, and thus, it's highly recommended to go through Kirakira Stars Idol Project in the right order. [h2]Becoming An Idol is Harder Than Anticipated…[/h2] Kirakira Stars Idol Project Nagisa takes place after the events of the first entry where Ai managed to get past her first performance. It seems like the typical happy end — if it wasn't for the cliffhanger at the end. You see, in this entry, Nobuyuki and Ai will meet their other childhood friend, Nagisa. The surprising thing here is that Nagisa became an idol and a professional one to top it off. Anyway, there is an idol festival called DivaFes coming up and Ai, and Nagisa, are taking an audition for it to get selected. As Ai is still not an experienced idol she has to overcome a lot of hardships — once again. [h2]Nope, Still No Romance[/h2] For those who are wondering about whether Kirakira Stars Idol Project Nagisa contains any romance: No it does not! In that sense, the second entry is exactly like its predecessor and focuses on the idol's genre and the platonic relationship between Nobuyuki and the cast. And just like in Kirakira Stars Idol Project Ai, I found that was just the right approach as romance would have felt off place for me. The reason for that is simply that the story of Nobuyuki and Ai gets continued and it would be weird if he suddenly started to like another girl — especially as the next game revolves around another girl. However, the introduction of a new character is an interesting approach nonetheless. [h2]Nagisa[/h2] So, let's move to the interesting part: Nagisa. First of all, the story still focuses on Nobuyuki and Ai in general, however, their childhood friend Nagisa still gets a lot of screen time. It's evident that this game is meant to introduce her properly and most of the scenes serve the purpose of the reader getting to know more about her. Sadly, that means that Ai is not as present as in Kirakira Stars Idol Project Ai, although I still liked to meet new characters as it kept the series more interesting. So, what about Nagisa herself? — Most of the time the player is just following Nobuyuki's everyday life in this game and he happens to spend a lot of time with Nagisa. I found she was a likable character and definitely has tsundere traits. Something that I enjoyed here was that this game is about platonic friendship and even though Nagisa and Ai are competing with each other for the idol festival, they're still friends at the end of the day. [h2]Slice-of-Life[/h2] Kirakira Stars Idol Project Nagisa revolves mostly around slice-of-life events. Admittedly, there isn't a lot going on, yet I love light-hearted stories. Like the predecessor, it was easy to go through that fluffy visual novel and that's one of my favorite aspects of this game. Kirakira Stars Idol Project Nagisa certainly doesn't overstay its welcome. Although a playthrough can be completed within one or two hours, I prefer games on the shorter side at times. Unfortunately, that means that the story isn't as fleshed out as it could have been with more playing time, however, there are more episodes planned so the story is not done yet. [h2]Endings, Choices, and Their Impact[/h2] In that regard, Kirakira Stars Idol Project Nagisa works exactly like its predecessor. Whilst there are choices available throughout the playthrough, they only make minor changes on the dialogue and the main story stays the same with only one possible end the player can reach. It still gives the reader the feeling of actually interacting with the game. The end of this visual novel is satisfying and — if it wasn't for another cliffhanger — feels completed by itself, although a few events still didn't turn out the way I wanted it to. Nonetheless, the end made me want to keep reading this series as I am eager to know what will happen to Nobuyuki and Ai. [h2]Graphics, Voice-Acting, and The Immersion[/h2] The reader already knows the deal when they already played the previous entry: The graphic in Kirakira Stars Idol Project Nagisa is stunning. I truly had a lot of joy looking at the cute girls blinking and moving around. Every character felt so lively and they even have different outfits and facial expressions which even enhanced the immersion. Luckily, there are even three sprites available in this game, whilst the predecessor only implemented two different sprites, however, for such a short game it never felt like there were too little sprites. There are a lot of gorgeous CGs available in this visual novel as well and the voice-acting was pleasant to listen to. [h3]As a Small Note[/h3] I would like to specifically address the technical issues I experienced in Kirakira Stars Idol Project Ai. I was delighted that I didn't notice any of those in Nagisa and, in that regard, the game really improved. I'm glad that this game fixed those issues as they slightly hindered my experience with the first entry. [h2]So, what do we have in the end?[/h2] Kirakira Stars Idol Project Nagisa is such a lovely entry in the Kirakira Stars Idol Project series. I love the light-heartedness of these titles and even when it comes to rivalry, it never gets toxic but this game revolves around friendships between the cast instead. I even prefer the approach of the stories not containing any romance as I feel like it wouldn't fit this specific series. Anyway, that being said, Kirakira Stars Idol Project Nagisa such a feel-good visual novel that will definitely delight anyone who already previously enjoyed Kirakira Stars Idol Project Ai.
