A touching story about an illegal immigrant girl called Yeonji living in South Korea. She meets a boy named Taehyeok and his friend Haran, and they both want to help Yeonji to go back to her home country. It’s a short drama with a few choices to make in order to get a good or a bad ending. After finishing both endings, you’ll unlock an extra scenario. The story revolves around the discrimination against immigrants in South Korea and it also shows that some citizens don’t agree with that xenophobic behavior. The English translation of Tears 9, 10 is alright, there are a few mistakes, but it’s readable. The art was cute and I loved the piano songs! I just think this VN is missing a CG gallery option if people want to see the images they’ve collected again. 7/10.
Tears 9, 10 is a short dramatic novel. Lots of players find the story touching. The reviews are mainly positive. I'm sorry but I didn't like the game. It wasn't something disastrous, absolutely not. I don't want not to recommend the game. It's just not something I enjoyed. Maybe looking through the list of my complaints you'll still decide to give this visual novel a try. I guess the only thing that I really appreciated was pretty art. But I wasn't a fan of black and white blurry backgrounds when mc recollected past. Images are completely unclear there. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1757161821 It's a Korean game and frankly speaking names looked too weird, I even had to ask for a help. I sincerely had no idea how to read mc's name. I guess it's wrong even to complain about such things, games\translations should keep their authentic nature but I'd prefer smth easier, clear for the majority of players. At first I found it frustrating that I couldn't save the game when choices appeared. Only later it became clear that after finishing the first bad ending (no choice here, that's how the game is created) you have to start a new game. All the time. No achievements, no cards, no gallery, no guide. Though it is not that difficult to guess what you should do to reach the good ending but still I had to try a couple of times. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1757708552 There're too many typos, especially typed together words. I didn't like writing at all. There were lots of cut sentences as they were often divided into separate 'pages'. And there was that annoying, pulsating too fast thing at the end of the sentences. There're 2 endings and the good one is unlocked after the first playthrough=bad ending. After them we can read the diary and finally get answers to lots of questions. On the one hand, it was a nice structure, I prefer reading bad endings first. But on the other hand, having too many questions about the plot prevented me from immersing into the story and feeling sad as it was supposed to be. Plus, the lack of a choice is never a good thing. Lots of reviewers call it a touching story. But for me it was hard to believe the story, to relate. I found some plot twists a bit far-fetched, like written just to force us feel gloomy but it seemed a bit unnatural. Maybe it's me, or some cultural difference, dunno. My friend calls such things a 'false tear squeezer'. That's definitely supposed to be a tear jerker, call me heartless but I couldn't connect to the story at all. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1757161897 It was also hard to feel anything, to flow with the story as I had too many questions about the plot. Some of them were answered during the extra story. But how was I to feel any strong emotions if I kept wondering about possible holes in the story all the time. And some questions are still unanswered. For example, mc behaves so mature being just a student in a high school, where are his parents? How could he spend the night outside so easily? If a friend called you asking to come with spare underwear for a 14 yo girl, I wouldn't even know how to react. Does everyone have extra one at home for such occasions?
What kind of promise is that not to hurt herself? Does he imply that injury was intentional? 'cause it pretty much sounds like this. Sending her back to whom? Why does he believe she won't be hurt there? She even doesn't want it but they convinced her O_o How? Can I also please hear those arguments? Because the story doesn't make sense. Aahhh three days to pack things and bid goodbye?! Does he mock her?
So I don't know if it's a poorly written story, a poor translation or just I'm heartless and dumb but I couldn't feel anything except frustration and annoyance.
This very cute and touching visual novel has an excellent drawing and an endless kindness of the story that will guide you in this small but very life-affirming adventure.
