King of Halloween is a political simulation game mixed with a dating simulator. A weird combination I know, but one that actually kinda works well. You play as Dr. Victor Frankenstein (the guy who made the monster, not the green guy with bolts in his neck) the newly elected Mayor of Halloween City, a type of City-State that is modeled around a bunch of Halloween tropes. It's got werewolves, vampires, mummies and witches. All it's missing is David S. Pumpkins hahahaha On to the review... Story & Writing A Visual Novel's strength lies in story mostly (though one can argue that art can be just as important) and I have to say that the story here is super creative. As I said earlier, the whole thing is Halloween-themed and borrows heavily from famous Halloween stories. They make a bunch of references to those stories and it's a delight to read if you are familiar with the works like "The Call of Cthulu", "Frankenstein", "Dracula" and "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde". The plot itself is much lighter and comedic in tone than any of the works mentioned above. As the art style suggests it's not a super serious political simulator and the stakes really aren't that high. Think more "Parks and Recreation" than "House of Cards". The characters are charming, unique and very witty and the actual political discourse is surprisingly well researched and deep, despite being fictional. I think anyone who reads the news regularly will find this satire quite entertaining. The writing itself is in perfect native English and while there are a good amount of typos that really should have been caught, it's generally easy and fun to read. Art Style The art style in this game is really very nice indeed. The backgrounds are among the best I've seen in Steam and even compare to backgrounds you get in Japanese Visual Novels. The sprites are super creative and fun, I love how they are themed so well with Halloween and all have their own little details that really bring an extra edge to each characters personality. The CGs are generally quite good and there are seem to be a good amount of them (I've only scored a few endings so far). I have to say though that the "adult" ones aren't quite as good as the other ones. I mean they're solid in the sense that the anatomy is correct and nothing feels out of place, but compared to the other CGs in this game, they're just ok. Gameplay The choice system seems tough, but fair. I think your political choices definitely have long-term effects within the game and there seems to be a clear logic to how things work. I don't want to spoil it too much but it relies on getting votes to pass edicts and choosing the political destiny of your City-State. Some of the choices do seem a little arbitrary but I'd say I do feel that at least 80% of the choices had a direct impact on what ending I got. Music I liked the music a lot, so I'm glad I got the gold class DLC package. It's honestly not what I expected it to be. I was kind of expecting it to be a bit like the soundtrack to "Nightmare before Christmas" but it turned out to be a lot more kind of contemporary jazz and city-pop style, which I like anyway and made for an interesting listen. It seems more like they asked a composer to put in music from their own catalouge rather than compose the music for the game itself. Not complaining though, it made for a good listen. Conclusion All in all I enjoyed it. Certainly for the price it was good value. I read there are like 9 endings. I've only achieved a few so far but will definitely go back in to get more later in the week when I am less busy. Recommended!

i was expecting action but apparently it's a "visual novel"....... smh my head....... sigh.... time to play csgo...... sigh........

[h1]보1지 보여줌. 꼭1지 보여줌. 성우도 없고 그림 숫자도 적은데 너무 비싸. - 환불함-[/h1] 그림체는 상당히 준수함. 적어도 평균 이상은 그렸음. 하지만 존1나 잘 그린 그림은 아님. 보1짓살이라던지 비너스의 언덕이라고 불리는 그 부분이라던지가 너무 두툼하게 그려져 있어서 진O환씨의 그 부분이라고 봐도 될 정도. 여기에 성우가 딸린것도 아니고 게임의 대부분의 장면이 모두 스탠딩샷으로 처리된것만 봐도 이게 3300원짜리 게임은 절대 아니라고 생각한다. 그나마 음악 하나는 좋았지만 나는 보1지랑 꼭1지를 보기 위해 이걸 샀지 음악 들으려고 산건 아니다. 그래서 환불함,. 끝으로 게임을 설치 후 시작하려고 할 때 간헐적으로 시작이 안되는 버그가 있음. 가격이 1100원이면 그럭저럭 괜찮을 평작이지만 이건 3300원(할인가 2970원)... 나는 절대 만족할 수 없다. The narrative paths splitting on how you make choices on political topics had potential before its simple nature becomes more apparent, and the romance path with Selma actually takes itself seriously and is sweeter for it. However, most of the game is quickly tired comedy, sexy scenes bogged down by juvenile writing, and a bit too much detail put in the underfed city politics instead of developing the girls into more interesting romance options. King of Halloween is a step above King of Texas certainly, but one decent route doesn't make up for blandness of other paths or groan-worthy writing that taints what it bills as its appeals. If more of the game was like Selma’s ending then we’d have a more interesting package, but even Selma’s ending is technically a bad one since it involves the political angle being pushed aside, and the ones that do result in important city measures going through aren’t really the fulfilling paths. You may get to read some awkwardly written intercourse with a woman who looks like a regular anime girl once she’s undressed and see a handful of quality lewd art, but the framework doesn’t really make the effort put in worth it. The councilwomen are one note so you are meant to mostly fall for their bodies or single character trait, the political issues you can work on fixing are often counterproductive if you’re going for romantic endings, and the humor isn’t strong enough to carry it through its dryer moments.

It's a nice game but unfortunately the action is a bit weak and the duration is very short. It is sad that there is no end to Draculina and one to harem with all 5.
