I booted this up thinking "cute little arcade game, I'll play for 20 minutes." That was several hours ago. My fingers hate me. KAZ is basically whack-a-mole on crack with a roguelike card system slapped on top. You smash WASD to kill enemies on a grid before the timer runs out, grab cards between rounds to build your score, and then do it all again because the game over screen has the audacity to look really cool and make you want one more run. It's pure unfiltered dopamine in a tiny package and I am not okay. The visuals and sound design are genuinely juicy in a way that's hard to describe. Every hit feels satisfying, the lasers and lightning effects go absolutely hard, and each character completely changes how the game looks and plays. There are apparently 20+ unlockable themes too which is wild for something this cheap. My only gripe is that later rounds start feeling more like "did you get the right cards" than actual skill expression, which can sting a little. But honestly by that point you're so hooked you'll just start another run immediately anyway. At under seven euros this is embarrassingly good value. Quick sessions, massive replayability, and the perfect game for when your brain needs something loud and fast and shiny. I bought this game to gather evidence for an identity theft lawsuit, but I got completely hooked on the grid-based chaos instead. The fast-paced action and flashy visuals are so addicting that I've decided to drop the charges. Consider this review my official settlement.
There is a concept in game design, where you take a single action such as simply clicking a button, and you make it as fun as possible. This takes that concept to the absolute extreme in the best way possible.
hands cramping... anyways the game is super awesome, especially for being so new and fresh. there are a ton of cards and abilities to go through, some learning curves some strategies and all that beautifulness. Definitely recommend!
This game is going to ruin some or multiple parts of your life. Worth it.
I knew nothing about this game but my friend's name is Kaz so I got 2 copies of it as a joke. Best joke I ever spent money on. Tip: to save your hands, map a horizontal layout like osu or stepmania. This also has the benefit of making you a bit faster because you never have to move your fingers. Another tip: If you want your roommates to hate you, play this at 2am with a loud ass keyboard.
Makes me wanna poo, in a good way
Smash your keyboard using WASD or the arrow keys to kill enemies before time runs out. After completing a round, you are given 3 choices to improve your build or score via items. 4 characters to choose from. Each has different abilities and the enemies will appear differently. Survive as many rounds as possible by reaching the minimum score. Speed does not guarantee survival since accuracy and efficient order of killing enemies matter.
Pros:
- Runs are quick and last about 15-30 minutes, so you can do a run on a lunch break or while waiting for an appointment. - Can potentially help you improve overall reflexes and hand/eye coordination. - Multiple themes that can be unlocked just be playing the game that will alter the menu color and change enemy appearance.
Cons:
- Your fingers will be sore after playing for 1 hour or longer. - Going past 20 rounds relies less on skill and strategy and more on unlocking the best spells/items. Later rounds add more spaces than you can realistically manage, so your items will determine if your run will last. Conclusion: The game over screen motivates you to try one more run. Rounds are short and each run allows you to unlock more items for that character. The progression is held back by forcing player to unlock better items to reach later rounds. If you don't mind tired fingers and that last point, try the game out. Also, the game is reasonably priced at $6.99.
