one of the games of all time
Wow, what a disappointment. There really isn't anything good in this game. It's short, the story is stupid, the puzzles are idiotic, the HOG scenes hide close to nothing, and it definitively helps to play without sound because the synchronization is awful.
Short casual adventure game with only a few HOG scenes. Gameplay is standard. By moving the mouse around the screen, you need to the keep an eye on the cursor that changes when you point at something important. It might either be a hand to pick up an item, a magnify glass to take a closer look or a gear that need an item. Items are used by selecting them from the inventory bar below and then clicking on the hotspot. In contrast to traditional adventure games, there are no illogical solutions. There is also some item combining, although the game will show you a close-up of the item when this is required. Walking between scenes is possible by clicking on exits or by using a map. Because each chapter just contains a few locations, there isn't much to worry about. HOG scenes don't look like you’re examining a junkyard. Objects mostly belong there, and there aren't many of them. Naturally, this does not apply while browsing through bins and cupboards that typically include a plethora of random things. These scenes also contain a large number of elements that must be used together. It's not always clear where everything goes, but there's no penalty for clicking on the wrong spot. Logic puzzles show up only in the last chapter. There’s only a few of them and they’re not that hard. There’s a hint available, but it’s not useful. Instead of showing you what has to be done, it indicates to hotspots that you are already aware of. There are many cases where a hint is wasted on an exit or item you already picked up. The experience is pretty frustrating because you have to wait for it to recharge. The game's slow pacing is a small flaw. The majority of events in the game require you to wait a second or two. If you wish to collect two items one after another, you'll have to wait because the first item stays on the screen for a short period of time. The same can be said for any interaction, item use, or conversation. If you click too quickly, the subtitles and comments from the game’s protagonist may even overlap. Achievements are easy. Due to short length, there's one for beating the game twice. But I guess there's a bug because I got everything on a single playthrough.
