Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 1.57/day in the week to Aug 7 → 0.86/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,419 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Reviews
One of the most joyful video games ever made with every element of its pleasingly simple visual style, calming to outright bopping soundtrack, and incredibly satisfying to grasp gameplay loop creating such a cohesive work of art. I might be a hint less charitable on replay to the bonus constellation levels which range from incredibly silly to outright mean with their goals along with how annoying it can be to watch the katamari get stuck on objects and watching the number you built up so carefully suddenly get wiped out, but they're nitpicks that pale in comparison to just how excellent of a climactic crescendo the whole game builds up to. Helps it's such an easy game to fully see through when it's less than 5 hours long.
The Katamari you remember.
Introduction
I’ve been absolutely enchanted by Katamari Damacy REROLL since I first fired it up. This HD remaster of the 2004 cult classic revitalizes the series’ delightfully absurd premise—rolling a sticky “katamari” ball around increasingly surreal levels to rebuild the cosmos—while preserving everything that made the original so lovable. From the moment I picked up the controls, it was impossible not to smile as I swept up pencils, people, cars, and even entire buildings into my ever-growing sphere. Released on December 6, 2018, for Windows and Nintendo Switch (and later on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Amazon Luna, and Stadia), REROLL brings the iconic game to modern platforms with fully updated graphics and cutscenes in glorious 4K HD.

Gameplay & Controls
At its core, Katamari Damacy REROLL retains the brilliantly simple yet endlessly engaging gameplay loop of pushing your katamari around diverse environments. The objective in each level is straightforward: meet a target size within a time limit. Yet every stage feels fresh thanks to carefully curated environments—from cluttered bedrooms and bustling city streets to lush gardens and the depths of outer space. The controls are intuitive; I found rolling, accelerating, and reversing to be responsive with no noticeable input lag. For those who prefer motion, the Switch version even supports gyro aiming, but on PC, the analog stick and mouse-driven camera worked like a charm.

Visuals & Performance
One of the first things that struck me was how clean and vibrant everything looks. The remaster was developed by MONKEYCRAFT Co. Ltd. in Unity, and it shows: objects pop with rich color and crisp edges, and the recreated cutscenes are faithful to the original art style while sparkling in high definition. From my experience on Windows 10, REROLL runs flawlessly at a steady 60 FPS, even when my katamari ballooned to skyscraper size with hundreds of objects clinging to it. Remarkably, I encountered zero bugs—no crashes, no texture glitches, no audio stutters. Everything works virtually perfectly, which is a testament to the polish poured into this remaster.

Soundtrack & Audio
The soundtrack is nothing short of legendary. Each track, composed by Yū Miyake and the original Namco Sound Team, is a joyous, offbeat mix of funk, pop, and chiptune that perfectly complements the game’s whimsical tone. From the bouncy “Lonely Rolling Star” to the serene “Que Sera Sera,” the music keeps me grinning throughout every level. Sound effects—like the satisfying “clack” of objects sticking to the katamari—are crisp and engaging, further immersing me in the rolling madness.

Story & Charm
While the story—King Cosmos accidentally destroys the stars and tasks his pint-sized son, the Prince, with restoring them—provides a delightful framing device, it’s really just an excuse to roll up everything in sight. The cutscenes, fully reanimated in HD, are charming vignettes packed with cosmic humor, but the fun lies in the levels themselves rather than narrative twists. I appreciated the lighthearted dialogue from the King of All Cosmos, though, which adds a layer of absurdist charm without ever slowing down the rolling action.

Additional Features
Beyond the main campaign, REROLL includes all 25 original stages plus two bonus levels unlocked upon completion. There’s no multiplayer in this version, but the single-player content alone offers plenty of replay value—especially if you’re chasing those platinum-size katamaris or aiming to master each stage’s timing. Steam Achievements (21 in total) provide additional challenges that had me revisiting my favorite levels to squeeze out every last collectible.

Legacy & Accolades
Katamari Damacy has always been recognized as an artistic milestone; in 2012, the original game was inducted into MoMA’s permanent collection for its “quirky manipulations of scale” and elegant design. This remaster was even nominated for the Freedom Tower Award for Best Remake at the 2020 New York Game Awards, underscoring how well it honors the source material while updating it for new audiences.

Conclusion
In my time with Katamari Damacy REROLL, I’ve experienced pure, unadulterated joy—a testament to its timeless design and the flawless execution of this HD remake. It delivers exactly what fans of the original want (and newcomers need): vibrant visuals, an unforgettable soundtrack, endlessly satisfying gameplay, and zero bugs. The story is a delightful aside, but let’s be honest: the real draw is the simple, delightful act of rolling up the world and watching it grow. If you’ve ever wanted to experience gaming’s quirkiest, most charming puzzle-action adventure, this is definitely the definitive way to play it.
Whereas others grew up playing Super Mario and angry birds, I grew up with an old game from the company NAMCO. Was it Pac-man? Or maybe one of the early Naruto games? No, it was Katamari Damacy. I grew up with this overstimulating mess of a game, and I love it. There's not much to say about the gameplay, I suppose it's similar to rolling a spherical magnet around your desk. Or one of those roller things that picks up cat hair from your shirts, and who doesn't love that? But once you get used to all the crazy colours and the king of all cosmos the game gets so fun. So addictive. So memorable. I'm not nearly smart enough to explain what exactly is so fun about this game, it just is.
they see me rolling
You basically just roll over things, it's kinda chill.
roll roll roll roll
If you blended all 7.88 billion people on Earth into a fine goo (density of a human = 985 kg/m3, average human body mass = 62 kg), you would end up with a sphere of human goo just under 1 km wide. I made a visualization of how that would look like in the middle of Central Park in NYC.
A game with a simple premise of making your ball bigger but as you progress simplicity becomes insanity. I love it.
