I haven't had much time to play, but I can already tell a lot of effort and passion was put into this project. Controls are intuitive, the pixel art is great, and mini games and teaching methods are fun. Reminds me of Undertale if it was a language learning game, which is SO COOL! Cant wait to play more! 10/10
Fantastic game lots of content BUT NO ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AUTO SAVE blasted thew half the game before i croaked xD Had lvl 30+ party and everything xD my b game xD Wish it auto saved at like shrines or hotels >> Maybe after the bosses but no ITS ALL ON YOU to save Soo ♥♥♥♥ me Back on that grind xD
I bought the game early on with a friend because we were trying to start learning Japanese together hoping to go on a trip to Japan soon. Plans fell through and I kind of forgot about it for a little bit, but started playing it again here and there, and I saw their latest update, so I figured Id throw in my opinion. The Good: -Silly game with lots of heart and lots of dad humor, the animation is also really good (everyone is very bouncy), and lots of cultural references like how not to leave chopsticks in rice and stuff like that -Some of the minigames are actually really fun! The overall vibe is super retro and I love that. I really like the disco one and the driving one. Some of them are just ok, but for the most part, I got what they were going for. -Just a ton of learning content in general (I still haven't used the kanji mode, need to work on that) -I actually like how the tone changes to dark here and there, but thats just me The Less Good (I like the game, so I'm trying to be nice): -Does not hold your hand at all. If you don't explore the area to learn the vocab for that area, you're gonna have a bad time. Just take your time to explore before rushing to fight the bosses and you'll probably be ok. -You have to save manually everytime! Like I get its "retro" to do that, but maybe leave some things in the past. They do warn you with some signs to remind you at least, but I was so used to autosaving that I did have to redo some stuff early one, but I never forgot after that and haven't had any saving issues since then, but it's still kind of annoying. -If I had to get super nitpicky, I'd say that sometimes the vocab isn't easy to find or is clumped in groups that are really only covered in minigames or in the battles. It makes sense because theres alot of vocab but I wish some of it was explained more to make it easier to remember. The earlier vocab are actual things in the game like a window or a door, which is easier to visualize and remember than something like a bank account, but as I said, that's a nitpick and if you just use reptition and play all the minigames, you'll probably still learn them. Overall, I really liked my time with it, and may play it again in the new year to get back to where I was, then start in on the Kanji mode. I got a Kanji book for Christmas, so we'll see how it goes!
Don't get this game if you are wanting a way to play this on multiple devices, the dev has come out and said that it would take an entire game restructure to add cloud saving, so it won't be possible, as that will 100% brick some people's saves. Otherwise, good game and a fun way to learn some vocab, but I don't know if it really helps with retention or anything because I haven't played it since September 23, 2024 (Currently Dec. 30, 2024) due to the lack of cloud save.
Extremely engaging and a great way to get repetition for vocab in different ways. Definitely recommend for beginners n5-n4. I might need to get gud but the boss area for Emergency district had me grinding.
The game's art and music are very cute <3 and the many unique and interesting mini-game ideas are so great! I laughed a lot! The characters in the game are also very unique XD Thank you for creating so much content! My favorite part was that it included pictures to help you learn how to write hiragana. Those pictures are very cute and useful for memorizing hiragana! Thank you so much! Arigatou! ありがとう!
Amazing game! 10/10 I've always liked learning games, but they are usually very repetitive or they expect you to memorize stuff inmediatly... But not in this one! I'm actually amazed by the creativity and love the developers have put into this! It's not tedious, it's not boring, and it's actually pretty fun! I would still like it even if it wasn't for learning japanese! The RPG approach is very clever imo, grinding is fun and you memorize stuff at the same time so you start to learn very naturally, also is not boring even if you are a little above beginner, cause you can skip some basic stuff Something i would like to mention tho is the save feature... It has no cloud save and no way to sync files, i've lost my saves twice and it's gotten tedious, but other than that it's a pretty good game! I can't wait to finish it! (Hopefully without having to start from the beggining again TvT)
Great game for beginners! Has really fun mini games that help practice your hiragana/katakana, and vocab words. Story so far is pretty wacky, in an enjoyable way. RPG elements of the game and turn based combat is kinda basic, but still fun. The game has a great personality while you learn some Japanese!
Vielen Dank!
masterpiece enjoyed playing it
