Journey

Journey is one of those rare games I keep coming back to, even after I've played it more times than I care to admit. It is beautiful in a way that's difficult to put into words. The music, the environments, the quiet atmosphere, it all comes together to create an experience that feels almost more like a memory than a game. Somehow, it tells an incredible story without needing dialogue. There are no long conversations explaining what you're supposed to feel or pages of exposition telling you what happened. You simply experience it, and somehow you understand. I've played through Journey over and over, and it's one of the very few games I 100% complete. Even after finishing everything, I still return to it. Sometimes I just want to unwind, wander through the world, listen to the music, and let the game take me somewhere for a little while. Then there are the other travelers. One of my favorite parts of Journey is meeting completely random people along the way. You don't know who they are, where they're from, or whether you'll travel together for five minutes or the entire journey. You can't talk to them, but you can communicate in little sounds, help each other reach places, wait for each other, and just... have these tiny, adorable interactions with a stranger. Sometimes you travel together for a long time. Sometimes you cross paths for only a few minutes and then you go your separate ways without ever knowing anything about the person behind the character. I love that. Journey is a game I play when I don't need a challenge or a complicated story. I play it because it makes me feel something. It's peaceful, lonely, beautiful, comforting, and somehow deeply human despite barely using words at all. It's one of those games I don't think I'll ever really be finished with. I'll probably keep coming back to it for years.
