About
The Enemy Is Evolving. So Must You.
Invaders Evolutions transforms the classic fixed-screen alien shooter into a run-based, 100-level arcade survival war with no permanent power creep. You are humanity's last defensive line, fighting through a dark retro-industrial invasion toward the final Mothership encounter.
Moment to moment, it is fast, readable arcade action: slide the turret through incoming fire, carve openings in the formation, and decide when to risk a shot at a high-value spaceship.
But the aliens are not simply gaining more health. Every success, mistake, and missed opportunity can shift the momentum of the war. Hunt high-value spaceships, protect your limited turret reserves, and build humanity's counterattack before the swarm evolves beyond your control.
Control the Arms Race
Survival is not just about clearing the screen. It is about denying the enemy momentum while accelerating your own build.
Starve the Enemy: Letting roaming spaceships escape, losing reserve turrets, or surrendering control of the battlefield feeds alien development and makes later levels more dangerous.
Learned Alien Tactics: Horde Waves are more than pressure tests. Major Horde milestones teach the wider invasion new behaviors, allowing later formations to close gaps, resurrect destroyed attackers, repair damaged units, and attack from new angles.
Punishing Escalation: Escaped spaceships and failed defenses can trigger severe consequences during relevant encounters, including carpet bombing pressure.
Research Humanity's Counterattack
You do not receive every major tool automatically. At key milestones, choose which technology to research next and shape the campaign around your priorities.
Turret Shields absorb incoming hits and help protect your active turret from immediate destruction.
Defensive Barriers reinforce battlefield cover and improve the durability of each barrier section.
Seeker Missiles track roaming spaceships, deny the enemy valuable escapes, and grow stronger through upgrades.
Build, Survive, Score
Between levels, spend upgrade points to adapt your turret for the war ahead. Improve firepower, reload speed, bullet speed, movement, upgrade progress, turret reserves, shields, barriers, and seeker missile performance. Experiment with your build before committing, giving you room to strategize without punishing an accidental click.
At the end of each level, a performance ledger rewards clean shooting, aggressive spaceship hunting, and fast clears. Difficulty multipliers affect scoring, making survival alone only part of the challenge. The strongest runs demand accuracy, speed, smart research choices, ruthless resource denial, and long-term upgrade planning.
A good run feels like holding the line by inches: one reserve left, bombs falling, upgrade meters racing, and one more wave still somehow within reach.
Key Features
100-Level Campaign: Fight through an escalating invasion ending in a dedicated, multi-phase Mothership battle.
Three Difficulty Modes: Learner offers a gentler path for practice, Normal delivers the intended strategic balance, and Valhalla increases alien pressure while doubling your score potential.
Human Research Choices: Choose between shields, defensive barriers, and seeker missiles instead of receiving every major tool automatically.
Evolving Alien Threats: The swarm learns formation optimization, angled bombing, resurrection, active repair, and other permanent battlefield behaviors.
Guardian Encounters: Survive massive, highly durable boss-style enemies that require sustained damage, movement, and mastery of their attack patterns.
Performance Scoring: Accuracy, spaceship kills, clear time, and difficulty multipliers all feed into your final score.
Global and Country Leaderboards: Chase worldwide scores or compete asynchronously for national bragging rights.
Controller and Keyboard Support: Play with controller support across gameplay and major menus, or use configurable keyboard profiles.
Proton-Tested Windows Build: The Windows build has been tested on Steam Deck and Ubuntu through Steam Play / Proton. No native Linux build is currently included.
Retro-Industrial Arcade Pressure
The battlefield blends classic fixed-screen action with a dark mechanical style: glowing projectiles, dense alien formations, reinforced barriers, turret shields, seeker missile trails, Horde pressure, Guardian attacks, final-boss spectacle, and a tense industrial soundtrack built around one-more-wave momentum.

Successfully capturing the straightforward, repetitive & frustrating elements that made the original an addictive affair. Its main selling point is an upgrade system that scales the challenge with noticeable changes in alien capability & behaviour. Distinct audiovisuals generate an effective noiresque & mecha style aesthetic. It now lacks less in features & modes, after the last update (1.02). Though it still offers a tough challenge that scales less steeply than before, at least on mid difficulty. The use of AI generated art, is less of an issue given this was developed by a small team. Captures the nostalgia of the original & has all the ingredients that make for a successful reimagining. The last update elevates this title to a WORTHWHILE purchase.

STATUS: Has just been released, but shows little signs of needing any critical updates

APPEAL: Definitely for fans of basic, unvaried score attack games. Players must have a determined mindset to get the best out of it

VALUE: A small sale will offer better value for money

PLAY AGAIN: Likely, but only when in the right frame of mind & only in quick sessions

Key provided by developer through INDIEGEMS curator | Check out their vids on YOUTUBE
More info below.... https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3722376250
HIGHLIGHTS:
🟡 PLAYS with a tight gameloop that mirrors the original - simple, very repetitive, but not grindy. Relies on the player determining the best movement pattern & perfect timing of attacks while avoiding the destruction of their turret. Apart from the need to invest in upgrades between levels, there is nothing to distract from the core experience. 🟡 ALIEN UPGRADES are more interesting than those for the player. Not only upgrading their capabilities, but directly impacting the behaviour of their craft depending on investment in techs. Contributing to some reduction in repetition of experience. Best of all new techs can be unlocked by the AI. 🟡 PRODUCTION is clinical, very good for its Indie level budget. No obvious bugs encountered. Is very polished. QoL depends on whether players demands more. Stability demonstrated no issues. Optimised to run at 60fps with my rig. Would have been ideal to use a artist for the visuals, but the use of AI to create several game elements, was done with good effect. 🟡 CONTROLS are precise in terms of movement & shooting. Better kb/m & now controller support across both gameplay & the upgrade screen nullifies the previous problem of having to switch between both input types. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3722377579
OFF TARGET:
⚪ CONTENT consists of a solitary mode with milestone levels that split blocks of consistently identical levels. Despite a repetitive nature, it has been made to be replayed over & over. There is no real longevity beyond the x100 level cap, apart from a very few grindy &/or difficulty achievements. ⚪ ATMOSPHERE sufficiently produces a distinct industrial noir character. different to the often pixelated &/or neon infused vibes of other clones. Stylish cutscenes perfectly frame a backstory to the game. Pity it stops there. Animated cutscenes of alien upgrades are cute. Wish the player faction got some as well! The Indie rock soundtrack is catchy, but not entirely complimentary. Audio-effects perfectly capture the original's movement & attacks, they become distorted the faster the aliens get. ⚪ LEVELS come in only three types. With just a scout ship flying at the top offering bonus points & the catalyst for slower alien upgrades. There is no real differentiation between levels other than what the upgrades contribute. Milestone levels are a welcome break containing fewer, larger & tankier variants. The final boss level will be an enigma for all, but the most committed players. ⚪ PLAYER UPGRADES are less imaginative. Numbering six, with four able to enhance turret capabilities. The other two increase XP gain & regain lives up to a maximum, are perfect for the mid-to-later game. Unlockable adv. techs seem designed for late game, but come too far down the line to help getting there. ⚪ SCORING has some bonuses to aim for. Get all scout ships, accuracy threshold & one other that gives the player the impetuous to try to raise their score indirectly. Though these remain rudimentary. ⚪ IMBALANCE can still cause difficulty problems, but with the introduction of saving & difficulty modes, is not as acute as it was. Still need Flash like reflexes once the AI has gained all its core upgrades. The clusters & multi-direction bullets raining down on the turret can be quite fatal, very quickly. ⚪ LAST UPDATE provided better controller support, in-game saving which is invaluable if short on time, UI additions, the ability to change upgrade choices & better leaderboard info. A reduction to turret size is noticeable, allowing for a better experience. The scout ships can be shot down after the last standard enemy dies, if it has spawned. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3722376917
SHORTCOMINGS:
🟤 ENEMIES come in too few types, but this is not Galaxian. Their behaviour & capabilities do change by enough degrees as to be almost different enemies without looking like them. 🟤 DESIGNED to be frustrating - like the original. Without the right mindset, if timing is off, runs will be continuously short. Turret forcefield upgrades provide a little forgiveness when mistakes are made, but the oversaturated screen, flimsy one-use shields still don't do enough when the invaders have maxed out their upgrades. 🟤 OFUSCATION hides a little knowledge vital to decision making. Clarity of scoring when hitting scout ships as to why the range of points or what upgrades actually provide aren't mentioned anywhere. 🟤 MISSING FEATURES have been addressed in the last update & are now limited to: no economy needed to repair damaged shields which are fully rebuilt automatically. 🟤 ANNOYANCES are notably; High-scores won't register beyond locally if the internet is down when game over. Would like to see current level indicated in game, not just at the start of each one. Super fun game - starts off a bit like traditional space invaders, then takes a big left turn as the alien upgrades kick in. Was getting my butt kicked a little until I read the how-to-play guide on the community - now I understand it's also a resource/strategy game as well - makes a BIG difference!.. Strongly recommend!
I hate Roguelike/Roguelite games because in general is just a grind. Although Invaders Evolutions falls in that hateful category I can live with that. At first, I was very reluctant to purchase Invaders Evolutions. When I saw this game in the Steam store, I got very exited about it. Then I saw the dreaded word “Roguelite”. So, I even expressed my disappointment in the Steam Discussions. And very soon I got a reply from the developer in this regard. Long story short, because of my nostalgic connection with Space Invaders, I decided to buy Invaders Evolutions. And do I regret it? No, I do not. First let me say the developer is pleasant and responsive. He does not get on his high horse and takes criticism along with the praise. A quick thought on Invaders Evolutions. It’s a challenging and fun roguelite game. It’s not easy but it’s not frustratingly so. There is some grind but that’s to be expected. It is “Space Invaders” after all. I'll probably never reach level 100 but will give it a fair go. There is a story that I have not explored enough because of my play-time. Maybe I’m biased because of the nostalgia, but I recommend Invaders Evolutions. Have fun.
Fun and addictive , it kills your time easily .. also thanks dev for adding Arabic language in the game.
I'm having a lot of fun with this game remembering my misspent youth playing it rather than attending uni classes! I'm still bad at it! This version is great. Looks good on my Steamdeck (although I have not advanced many levels... not the fault of the game!!) Cool add to my library.
Invaders Evolutions has come a long way since the pre-release copy given to my group. Invaders Evolutions is essentially Space Invaders with upgrades. There are 3 levels of difficulty, and now Invaders Evolutions is controller friendly. Better than Space Invaders IMO. Devs that listen to feedback. Nice! https://steamcommunity.com/groups/indieretrogamers
