Well this is a bit of a weird one. Lots of "What the hell?" I enjoyed it! INSIDE is a puzzle platformer with tons of visual storytelling that it utilizes to set the tone and atmosphere of this very strange and unsettling game. It is very eerie from start to finish. It is relatively short so you can knock it out in a few hours if you don't get hung up on a puzzle. If you enjoyed this development team's other game, Limbo, you will likely enjoy this one too.
Inside is a short game, but it really sticks with you. I went into it not knowing much, and honestly that is probably the best way to play it. The game does not explain anything. You are just a boy running through this dark, strange world, and you slowly start realizing that something is very wrong. There is no dialogue, no big story dump, no characters explaining the plot. You just keep moving forward and try to understand the world from what you see. The atmosphere is easily the best part. Everything feels cold, quiet, and uncomfortable. The forests, factories, labs, underwater parts, and all the strange people you see in the background make the game feel disturbing without trying too hard. It is not really horror in the normal sense, but it has this constant tension that makes you feel unsafe. The puzzles are simple but well made. They usually do not take too long, but they fit the world nicely. It never feels like the game just placed random puzzles in front of you. Most of the time, solving them feels like you are actually surviving or escaping from something. Visually, the game is beautiful in a very dark way. The animations, lighting, and small background details are really impressive. It has a simple style, but it looks better than many bigger games because everything feels intentional. The ending is… weird. Very weird. I am still not completely sure how I feel about it, but I definitely remember it. It is one of those endings where you just sit there for a minute and think, “What the hell did I just play?” But in a good way. My only warning is that it is pretty short. Do not expect a huge game with lots of content. You can finish it in a few hours. But I would rather play a short game that knows exactly what it wants to be than a long game full of filler. Inside is simple, dark, strange, and memorable. Definitely worth playing, especially if you like atmospheric games that tell their story without explaining everything.
