This platformer is not bad for a student project. The artwork is good enough to be a first person class game. The player starts off in Nazi occupied Czechoslovakia circa 1942 when the Nazis moved in. The game moves through several levels as the story unfolds. The game is comparatively short and should take 30-40 minutes to play. On integrated graphics the game is slow as the game resolution choices are not working. A potato class video card would be fine with at least 8 CU or so on a 4K panel. The game uses the Unity engine which is supported in Visual Studio.

I would like to see a full version of this game. On the one hand, the graphics and sound capture the mood perfectly and let you experience what Emil is feeling. On the other hand, one of the stories that must never be forgotten is told here. When memories disappear from history books and school lessons, it is the perfect way to still pass them on to young people through games like these.
Congratulations to the developers for their care and quality!
Jogo curto e muito legal, com uma mensagem importante! A gameplay e o visual me me lembraram muito o Inside.
Jogo é muito bom gostei de verdade, fala da historia da gerra e uma criança com sonhos é tudo, no linux precisei por o proton 9.2 e não precisou mexer em nada o game roda tranquilamente
Heroes don't always wear capes.
Emil's journey showed us a heartbreaking story of salvation during the Second World War, through the eyes of a little boy. Imagining himself and his father as superheroes, and the Nazis as monsters, our hero had no choice but to run. Run without looking back through fields, forests, cow pastures, hiding behind bushes and stones and even pretending to be dead. First of all, I would like to note that this is a free project and it was made with soul. The graphics are amazing for such a simple game. However, unfortunately there is no optimization. At first I thought that there was a cap of 60 fps, but it turned out that my GPU simply couldn’t produce more. But it did not affect the emotions of the game at all. I strongly recommend everyone to play this game and experience this whole palette of terrifying emotions. Such things should be remembered and never forgotten. "Emil: A Hero's Journey - Prologue" is not a game. It's an advertisement for a product called "Emil: A Hero's Journey". Emil: A Hero's Journey is a 3D rendered 2D platformer that the developer abandoned... so yes, this is an advertisement for a product that doesn't exist, will never exist, and what we saw of it showed us it was badly made and somewhat valueless anyway. But this isn't completely relevant because this is not Emil: A Hero's Journey, it's just an advertisment for it, so it's not correct to try to review that completely distinct product. We must instead review this for what it is... an advertisement. If you enjoy advertisements, you can consume them for free on the web or on Youtube without needing to add them to your game library, download them, and then launch the advertising. It's impossible in a general sense to recommend people should do that over playing real, full games on Steam, and that applies here with "Emil: A Hero's Journey - Prologue" too. There's no value for gamers in advertisements for products that don't exist. Sure, maybe the developer is trying to get free alpha testing or something, but doing it the wrong way, on purpose, is just harmful to gamers, because of the pollution caused by these advertisements. This is only free in the same way that adverts on Youtube and banner ads in your browser are. This is a game demo that's been dumped on Steam to advertise another Steam store page in the hopes of raking in some cash. Just because advertisements are free, doesn't mean they're worth your time. It's important to understand there's a formal process to create a demo/page for a game which hasn't been followed here: https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/store/application/demos While it might seem like an inocuous mistake, publishing demos and advertisements as if they are full games is misleading and in some ways harmful. This advertisement is taking up marketing space and visibility that would be better made available to a developer that's done the right thing and created a full game. Instead, that visibility is given over to a demo/advert that's been published incorrectly and is polluting the marketplace. It's unclear if this mistake was made through incompetence or a deliberate intent to mislead gamers. Often developers may choose to incorrectly publish demo/advertisements as separate games as a cheap way to bypass paying Valve for marketing presence on the Steam front page, which may seem clever to them, but it's harmful behaviour and it's not good for gamers. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 6 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Advertisements and incorrectly published demos don't add +1 to your game collector count, they aren't full games. It's impossible for me to recommend this incorrectly published advertising spam to gamers, you deserve better than adverts.
This game is definitely inspired by INSIDE but also has its own uniqueness to stand on its own. It has all the features needed to become a masterpiece - great atmosphere, many polished animations, heart-touching music, a well-made story with subtle references, and enjoyable puzzles. It is clear that this game is a labor of love. The part I really enjoyed was the puzzle with the lying bodies. Overall, I can say it has great potential to become a masterpiece one day. I wish the creator the best of luck in finishing it. Great work, guys! Looking forward to the full game!
