InkSplosion. Id est, one of those games that always get me upset at looking at their store page.. Ok, it's good. Looks good. It's translated. I think I'm getting really annoying by saying that I wanted so bad to translate for free something and I got rejected and such. But I don't care, I've already got two jobs that are quite time-grasping. I just wanted to give more visibility to a younger public for what concerns mainly indie games. Then, I often come across indie games with zero reviews like this one (as of the end of 2018, I can't even find a Chinese review here even if it's been around for more than 8 months), and they've been translated. In my native tongue, which is one of the most beautiful tongues in the whole Europe due to our history - we're like 10 countries fused into a golem without any kind of link to tie them together, apart from the cultural one. And I see Italian translations that are clearly made with Google Translate, since not only they employ totally wrong words but they also use words that clearly can't be used in that context. Apart from all these errors, InkSplosion's main feature is, literally, a "single game". Not a single-player game, the Italian version says that is a "single game". I hold two degrees as they say summa ♥♥♥ laude in those useless subjects and well, ok, maybe that's why I'm mad at these things xD InkSplosion is obviously a single-player game. It's made with Unity and the configuration screen actually is quite useless since it offers you only one option for the windowed mode, which luckily fits my screen. The game opens up with an arcade music (and retro graphics) and some modes, classic mode, arena and hard mode. A weird tutorial opened with the X key (why?) explains you that you'll be able to shoot with the left mouse button, slow down the time with the right one, move with WASD keys and aim with the mouse. That's all. The voiceovers are quite annoying - there's a standard male voice like in the arcade games, do you remember Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat? - which say thinks like game over, game start and stuff like that every time. The tutorial given though is just that page on the commands - no information about the actual game. You'll easily figure out by yourself that you'll control a small spaceship that fires by holding the left mouse button (auto-fire? no? upgrades? anything?).. but you'll be left in chaos. Sometimes you'll fire a single bullet, other times you'll fire more. The screen can't be changed or moved, so you'll get most likely often in the middle of enemy fire in the very first seconds of the game. Killing all the enemies in a level will bring you to the next one, with a new random weapon. The whole game is A HUGE MESS. Let me elaborate. You are a black and white spaceship, the enemies are bigger black and white spaceships, the shots and their trajectories will be black and white rectangles. This makes lots of confusion in a small screen. Plus, the only good thing in this - the explosions of color when you're hit or viceversa - add nothing to the experience, since everything will keep on going in black and white. Plus, there are only 5 weapons in the whole game and there are no upgrades. You are given a random weapon at the beginning of the level, and you're screwed if the voice shouts "normal gun" - that means instant death. If you get "shotgun", it's instant kill of every enemy in your way. That's everything but fair, and lowers a lot the replay value since if you die (and by the way, no health points are actually present so it's kinda random.. you get hit 3-4 times and you die: there's a health bar on the upper part of the screen, but you're never told why and how it depletes, you just can endure 3-4 bullets) you are forced to always start from the beginning. And as I said, this game can look very colorful but in reality it's literally shooting black and white things back and forth. Don't trust all the store page screenshots, taken by the developers later in the game and when the levels are over and filled with ink.. I'll let you imagine how easy it is to play the whole thing on hard.. All in all, there are few ideas here and they are all badly realized. The colorful explosions are a nice thing, but if the enemies and even yourself are just black and white lines and pixels, everything gets annoying. If you can't re-start the 5° level but you're always forced to start from the 1°, it's even worse. If there are unbalanced weapons and you can't even auto-fire, if the laser or gun weapons suck while the shotgun kills everyone, it's also worse. Mix everything up with a total lack of upgrades, and just some bits of health bar healed between one wave and the other one, and you'll get a very very very crappy arcade casual shooter. This sounds even weird, since if there have been guys who tested this game and that have played lots of arcade games before, how could they have given a positive feedback? It's literally playing over and over the same level with just some minor changes (some barriers/moving obstacles in the same screen) and a random weapon, no upgrade system at all, no shields, anything.. It gets annoying and frustrating, there's no save apart from the game statistics.. Even if you like arcade shooter games I'd definitely not recommend this one to anyone. It's really badly realized. It's frustrating, a lot, to the point that after 15 minutes of restarting and getting back to level 1 you'll rage-quit rather than seeing those black and white spaceships over again. And it costs.. 5€/$? Come on.. definitely to skip.
a short action game for in between. can recommend it. 3 mode to play arcade, arena and hard mode. the music to the game is alright. the price of this game is in offer -70% alright. all achievements work.
InkSplosion
No controller support on a game like this, 0/5
The enemies, your "character" and all the projectiles have the same, color. If you destroy an enemy they explode in a colorful burst like it shows on the screenshots. If you beat the 4 enemys the game spawns, in 4 more spawn and you get a different weapon, there are like 5 different ones. That's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ it, that's the game. Like yeah, there is normal, arena and hard, but it's the same ♥♥♥♥ in all 3 of them. I got it in a bundle somewhere so yeah whatever, but I would certainly not spend money on this, when I can go play a browser game for free, which I might actually enjoy. Only upside I can see, are the rather easy achievements, which was more or less the only reason I put up with this game for like 15 minutes.
