Prepare yourself for a journey into another dimension, a universe unlike our own. A place where your senses will be stimulated audibly and visually, as well as stimulating your mind with its perplexing puzzles. Take control of your space shuttle and enter the portal to begin your adventure. You will start in the tutorial area and be instructed on all available options for the beginning of the game; from there you will progress to other portals and other zones. Some zones can be reached with just your shuttle, others will require you to use balls and maneuver across the zone in them to enter the portal and to collect gems in the zones for extra points. You will also gain additional powers as you complete zones and find secret areas scattered through the universe. Space Hole 2018 is the second release on Steam by Developer Sam Atlas, and is self-published. It is the 2nd title in the series, the first being Space Hole 2016, which has a 95% approval rating. It is an Early Access title and in a very good state now, with over 200 levels in the game already. With expected expansion, refining and polishing to be added before full release, which is expected before the end of Dec, 2018. The title features Full Controller Support for those that prefer a controller over keyboard and mouse. The Title does have a Photosensitivity warning because of the Flashing Lights and Colors, which can cause headaches and even seizures in some people (which I am sensitive to myself and prone to headaches from games like it). I had no issues though, with playing a couple hours at a time. The game is quite an interesting title in the genre; I was not sure at first if I was playing a game or using a virtual drug app. The audio and visual effects are incredible, like a journey into the twilight zone while listening to Pink Floyd. The layout of the zones and levels are fun to explore, and the secrets for you to find across the zones make sure you have plenty to explore. I totally loved the soundtrack; it varied in style to work with the areas you are in and all fit together very nicely. The game play is engrossing and addictive, which was a pleasant surprise as this is out of my normal game style. Though being an Indie game, I am always willing to give something a try. The mechanics are unique and add a fun twist that I did not expect. As you play and unlock more powers for your ship, the game changes up even more. I really had a lot of fun playing; it was rather easy to get lost playing and a hour would just fly by! I loved everything from the visual effects to the soundtrack and sound effects. Quality of the entire game was what I would consider to be of the highest standards. Many users say the Dev captured the essence of what he was working on creating in the 2016 version of the game and improved it to a work of art. I never played the 2016 version so I cannot actually make this statement, but I do agree it is a work of art. The price for the title is more than fair and is priced at a bargain for the gameplay you get from the title. I would say it is a Gem to have in one’s library.
2/10 not much to do in this game
When we finally give up on the giant rockets and instead upload partial copies of our consciousness into smaller and faster spacecrafts to blindly hurdle them into every direction of space - this game is how I imagine it must feel like, a naked thought printed on silicon trying to make sense of the distance, dreaming up nonexistent details of dead histories, and futures that will never return. Rest in peace space shuttles.
I received this game from one of several generous giveaways by the author. I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the game. It is much larger than I expected, with plenty of areas to discover as you progress in the game. The various graphics don't bother me at all, but if you're more sensitive you may not enjoy it quite as much. The game makes good use of 3D space, often requiring a little creative thinking to find some of the secrets. In most cases, you can freely roam around the area and get various views of the space phenomena. The graphics are fantastic and the sound goes very well with them. You can tell the craft put into every area; the game is very much an experience. My favorite part of the game is the map and progression. You unlock several new abilities as you go along, and can collect gems to unlock new areas. Some of them are easy to get and some require more effort. The map is a great feature, showing you how all the areas you've visited are connected and in which ones you still have more to find. There's plenty of replayability if you like collecting things. (Edit: Over 8 hours in, I'm still discovering new areas.) After two hours as of this writing, it seems the game still has a lot more for me to discover, and I'm excited to get there. Next time the game is on sale I'll get it for some of my friends so they can experience it too. (Though the list price is certainly fair, and I would recommend getting it now if it sounds interesting to you.) Would be fun to have some more achievements for the game though ;)
I was surprised by the really good reviews of this game as I did not not like it at all. I just thought it was some psychedelic arty nonsense. To each their own. Works without issues on Linux with Proton (5.0-6).
this is some beautifull game right there :D
This game is hella jank and you probably will not like it. It is more of an art piece than a game and perfectly encapsulates the feeling of exploring something strange and unknown, jumping from portal to portal, suddenly being thrust into new and strange environments. I am very fond of this game myself. For the price it is it is definitely worth a try if you like rolling ball games
Sequel to Space Hole 2016, there is some more physics based challenges to play and struggle through when they get hard, plus more psychedelia, a worthy successor https://youtu.be/MRLwZt7IF6E
