pretty fun game with an amazing style. the game is harder when compared to other card games like slay the spire but i feel like thats part of the charm
The game is still in early access, so this review is a bit premature, but I have found it fun so far. It is a lot like Slay the Spire, except that when you perform certain runs of cards you get a bonus out of it. For example, three "skills" (blocks) gives you +1 to block for the rest of the fight, and three punches stun an enemy. It's a nice system and it pays to explore what your character can do. Otherwise, it's a fairly standard spirelike with pretty art. All the characters are origami and you splatter ink instead of blood when injured, which is very pretty to look at. Only one of the playable characters is in there yet and you have limited options, but it's a pleasant way to pass some time.
Review — Inkborn
Inkborn is a confident and creative entry in the roguelike deck-building genre. It clearly understands what makes games like Slay the Spire so compelling, while adding its own identity through a combo-focused system and a distinctive origami-inspired world.
Strategic depth through combinations
At its core, Inkborn is about building momentum. Cards are not simply played one by one, but chained together into Glyph combinations that reward careful sequencing and long-term planning. One strong turn can completely change the direction of a run, while a poorly timed play can force you to adapt on the fly. Players familiar with Slay the Spire will recognize the overall structure and flow, but Inkborn feels less about locking into rigid archetypes and more about discovering flexible synergies as your deck evolves.
Theme and presentation
The visual style deserves special mention. The paper and ink aesthetic is not just a surface layer, but strongly reinforces the identity of the game. Combat feels elegant and deliberate, and the origami-inspired presentation helps each run feel distinct rather than repetitive.
Thoughtful design choices
It is worth noting that Jamey Stegmaier of Stonemaier Games provided design advice during development. That influence is noticeable in how tightly the systems connect and how the game consistently encourages meaningful player decisions instead of obvious optimal paths. As an Early Access title, there is still room for growth. More content, enemies, and refinement will strengthen what is already a solid foundation. Even now, the game offers satisfying runs and a strong incentive to experiment.
Pros & Cons
Pros

Engaging combo-focused deckbuilding
Strong thematic identity and visual style
Familiar structure with a clearly distinct feel
Cons

Content variety is still expanding
Some balance tuning could improve longer runs

Final thoughts
Inkborn is a promising and thoughtfully designed deckbuilder that stands comfortably alongside its inspirations. If you enjoy strategic roguelikes and appreciate games that reward experimentation and smart sequencing, this is an Early Access title well worth your time.
I really like the idea of setting the game in a book-and-paper world, along with the origami-style visuals. The combos are a great feature as well, as they significantly affect combat strategy. The curse cards, which can also be used as part of a combo, are a small but welcome touch that adds to the experience.
Definitely not worth it right now. Wait until full release (if there ever is one and this doesn't become VaporWare). Extremely shallow - comes across as a game you can upgrade as you go to get stronger, but only lets you upgrade a couple of timesin its current form. For example there are like 36 points on the character skill tree, but you can only unlock 4 of them. There are like 5 buildings you can upgrade - it shows each building upgrades like 5 times, but you can only upgrade each one once). Makes it EXTREMELY uncustomizable and quite boring. As I mentioned, maybe when it gets released, but you will be likely more frustrated than entertained in its current EA form.
good but not enough for Beta. There is only one class and 2 act? What I'm going to do with that for opening other achievments? Play over and over again the same acts? C'mon!
5h et c'est terminé, c'est juste une démo en fait ? Pour le contenu, pas mal mais ça manque cruellement de profondeur.
Für jeden, der Karten-Kombos mag und für alle Slay the Spire Fans.
