Mixed feelings. It’s very short and gets boring fast. If it’s free, maybe try it, but otherwise skip.
Inexistence is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro pixel platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. This is a particularly badly made one, and while some effort went into dragging and dropping stuff in ClickTeam Fusion, it's just overall garbage. There's a badly written, cringey fantasy/anime plot to the game, then you're into a remarkably shallow Metroidvania platformer with lacklustre combat (only three moves, single attack, double attack, and backflip). Gameplay is clunky and it's full of bugs. Thankfully, it's short, but that's also a problem if one of the major selling points to the game is that it goes away quickly. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals. The developers didn't design the game for gaming PCs, as such the best display resolution is set at or below 720p, a very low resolution that was introduced in 1998 and became obsolete when 1080p HD entered the mainstream in 2006. The game simply won't look right on modern gaming displays due to this failure on the part of the developers. PC gamers will be insulted by the demand from the developer that a console peasant children's toy controller should be used, despite this being on PC. Console peasant childrens toy controller prompts infest the game and can't be turned off. Developers should try to be aware which platform they're developing for, and must never, under any circumstances dictate to gamers how their games are to be experienced. While this is on PC, it has all the hallmarks and deficiencies of a console game, from the clunkier than needed control scheme to the less than cutting edge graphics. There's 10's of thousands of PC games on Steam, and PC gamers deserve only the best. This might not appeal to many gamers due to the lack of PC-centric design. It's unclear why this game was never accepted on the video game console appliances it seems to have been designed for. Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the Clickteam Fusion construction kit - the "No-Code" construction kit that "Anyone can make games with!!". Including, you know, people who aren't game developers. Which is a problem. This is a very poor quality toolset sometimes used by amateur developers as it's free (so they don't have to pay for GameMaker Studio) and doesn't require advanced game development skills, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities (it's arguably worse than GameMaker Studio). Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine. So it's inappropriate when amateurs try to use these for profit, without any actual, real game development effort taking place. This doesn't result in products that have any real meaningful value for gamers. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. Inexistence didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for killing 100 enemies, trivial to get if you play the game for any serious amount of time, but less than 15 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, gamers just weren't all that interested in the game. Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this isn't consistent with the achievement stats, that show less than 15 percent of players bothered playing the game for any reasonable amount of time. How is it possible for this game to have so many concurrent players who weren't even playing the game? Trading cards. Players will use card idling software to collect the cards and sell them, but this won't trigger any achievements in-game. That tells us people only really bought this game for trading cards, and that's a damning indictment of the woeful quality. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards. Inexistence is relatively cheap at $3 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend.

While the game is fun to play, and has nice visuals, the game is also littered with bugs, some of which hinder or break the game entirely still. Also prevents you from ever finishing achievements (as if the lac of details on them weren't bad enough to keep you from finishing them), but then to top it all off, a downer ending? Think I'll check the reviews first before I buy the enhanced game. And it's mixed too I'll skip to something else.
A short metroidvania that lasts 2 hours if it is your first time, the problem with the game is that it is too bug, you can even see enemies passing through walls and when you open the chests it does not show you the object you have collected (not to mention that some chests appear open without you having opened it), so I do not recommend buying this game. The game has an updated version called ''Rebirth'' from what I understand it improves many aspects of the game and even adding side quests, so you can take a look at that version of the game.

Fun little game. Doesn't take too long to complete. My time attack is 40 minutes, and my first run to 100% everything was around 2 hours long. Gameplay actually feels decent enough, but there is no real depth to it. You have a two hit combo, and that is about it. Art style is all over the place. Story consists of about 2 paragraphs, and it isn't worth reading at all. Music is decent but not really memorable. I also hit a few bugs, but they managed to fix themselves after a death. The game also seems to crash and reboot after you beat it, which is just funny in its own right. Its cheap enough, and I have seen way worse gameplay in games that are 20 times more expensive. Treat it as a short B-tier SNES game, and everything will make sense.
Got this from a very old bundle but started it just now, i was hesitant due to the so-so reviews. Note that there's a newer remake version in store. To my surprise it is a good game, a typical platform-metroid with tight controls, small maps and fairly easy to finish in one run. Even all achievements can be unlocked (100%) after a couple of runs, it takes about 1,5h for each run. I found some small glitches and a few weird hitboxes, also there's no map so it gets a bit messy at the end. All in all i enjoyed it more than i expected. Good [7/10]
