About
INCISION is a brutal, fast, merciless blast from the past inspired by the godfathers of the first person shooter genre like Doom, Quake, Blood, and Shadow Warrior. INCISION offers an experience that demands skill and focus from its player, and rewards them with intense carnage. Yours is a simple job. Cut, shoot, burn and decimate it all to stop the spread of the Growth. Mercy is weakness. Hesitation is death.
INCISION is designed to be merciless in its difficulty, but the player will never feel weak in the face of danger. Your arsenal is varied, powerful, loud, and will easily turn enemies into sticky red puddles, as long as they don't first do it to you. Movement is fast and responsive. The story never gets in the way of the gameplay, but there is plenty of it to be found for those who seek to unravel its mysteries.
Ten weapons of mass-slaughter, all including powerful alternative firing modes. Fire a volley of bouncing incendiary bombs from your shotgun. Lob grenades from your heavy machine gun to turn your foes into red mist. Do tricks with your trusty revolver to maximize its damage output. Spray a volley of four incendiary rockets and watch even the strongest foe crumble to ashes before you. Go berserk with a saw-spear that works as a long-range slashing weapon or a close-range buzzsaw.
The world of INCISION has been transformed into a living nightmare where a ever-consuming, ever-growing mass of flesh and machine live in unholy symbiosis. All we hold familiar and comfortable has been turned into a network of hellish, rusty, pulsating labyrinthian series of factories that serve as the nerves and organs for some greater being that only seeks to merge, unite and grow.
The Growth has seeks to unite and merge all life and technology alike, turning its people into machine-freaks, all of them designed to turn anyone who opposes its will inside-out. Augmented soldiers with burst-firing energy rifles, mad sycophants with ricocheting sawblades, machine spider-priests aka. "Spiderpopes" with homing missiles, and ancient things from beyond our world. INCISION's roster of monsters will keep you on your toes til the bloody end.
What sets INCISION apart - and makes it so brutally satisfying - is its old-school extra lives system, with 1-ups scattered across the map to help you avoid death. You’d better hunt them down, because if you run out, the level restarts. No checkpoints. No quicksaves. Each level must be beaten in one go.
INCISION challenges you to learn and adapt, sharpening your reflexes, your aim, your rage - until you’re no longer the prey, but the butcher of the nightmare spawn.
Brutal. Unforgiving. But always fair. This is what a true FPS challenge tastes like.
INCISION includes a soundtrack by Frédérick Chicoine "iNi"; An entire album's worth of atmospheric horror ambience and mayhem-inducing metal that will burst your veins with adrenaline.

Incision is aggressively dark, a rare game can match its edge. Naturally, the biological horror setting invokes Akira and The Body of Many, but the closest parallels gameplay-wise would be DUSK and HROT if you infused them with the period blood of a Strogg juiced on anabolics and hepatitis. I separately noted the brutal poetic precision the game uses to describe its unholy filth, it reminded me of Cruelty Squad of all things. That said, the freak is a thing of its own, here I hope to show how sick it really is. You have no idea. And I was none the wiser, but I'll tell you all about it during this gooning sesh. Except for what the protagonist is and how is he alive after being skull-tongued right through in a crunchy intro. I can keep my ancient Chinese secrets. Violated by the void yet still lucid, John Incision seeks to dethrone a God... or degod a Throne? Something like that. What came next was a bloodbath so stupendous I forgot to cognise. Our guy wasn't as lost in the sauce, doing research when things got heated and you two merged into one. An attempt to dissect the puzzle of chimeric flesh plaguing the city? Don't need a PhD to know the answer is mass destruction. Alas, there isn't much left to destruct in a place so far gone. Mad meat and steel meld together, towering walls of palpitating organs emerge, growing into a network of information banks. The Growth tracks every casing left on the ground, intimate with every cell in your body. Constantly bloating itself by devouring the agonising city, it festers into twisted mounds of flesh while its pestilent urethrae permeate the groaning wreckage rusted from blood. A cruel trypophobic nightmare amalgamates and spreads into hive megastructures of rotting tissue, riddled with hyper-industrial labyrinths haunted by revolting symbiotic spawn. All that forms ridiculously grimy, surreal art pieces transmitting a terminal stage Pandemonium who chokes when it doesn't screech, drowning in gunk. And the dark wind blows. The sound and music fit the bill. Disturbed, sharp, distorted - in tune with the stark, sorrowful apocalyptic vistas. Jesus wept. Hell, those could make a cenobite weep. In 40k universe this would call for immediate Exterminatus. Keeping the scale tight, this game shares Warhammer's balls-to-the-wall approach to world-building and all else, which mandates its celebration of the old ultra-violence.
Godspeed
Incision's grindset is simple: you die as soon as you stop moving and shooting. Scratch it, you die anyway. Running is lightning-fast, so I instantly used this perk to sprint into my own grave, got rekt so abruptly it was comical. That's a Quakeborn alright. Kill time is also quick, a blink and either of you is a pile of pulp squelching on the floor, steaming. Aggravated by the lack of quicksaves or checkpoints! You must rely on archaic 1-ups scattered around. They revive you on the spot, but don't carry over to a new level. Weapons and ammo can be hoarded, though. Looking at the feedback, death is a major point of contention. After beating a couple of levels on a harder difficulty, I started struggling with the repetition imposed by it. First-timing a level can take up to 30 minutes if you're thorough. Sure, it takes 1-15 otherwise and it's easy to memorise the streamlined map structures, but unless you travel the furthest frontiers of the spectrum (godspeed) even these bountiful secrets and tight encounters lose their edge the n-th time around. Worst of all, an impatient part of my monkey brain turns me into a lemming on repeated attempts, so I die in increasingly dumber ways, frustrations pile up. That's why I get the beef expressed by certain reviewers. Just don't buy everything they say. I know my limits, for one, Hollow Knight rejected me. I just don't have what it takes. But do I pout like a child or gossip about it? Don't say "guns bad" or "music bad" just to fabricate a pile of cheap justifications for your scrub ass to sit on. No need for its sobbing farts, simply admit to a skill issue and let go. Luckily, switching to the second easiest difficulty was enough to ease my pain here, mostly due to slower projectiles. If you think this made the whole affair a cakewalk, you haven't been paying attention. The only thing that changed was that the balance between fun and anger shifted towards the former. Most importantly, I kept feeling that tension in my throat and there were moments when my heart fell outta my ass. Although a weaker me would prefer to cuddle with my PCMR special (savescum), making me feel comfortable wasn't the point. I respect the author's vision, recognising that a strong principle overrides our whims, that art doesn't need to be all-inclusive. It takes guts to go against the grain, it's less profitable, which makes such a selfless commitment to the original intent all the more valuable.
The Whole 9 Yards
Evidently, I was in awe of the defiant spirit from the get-go, which helped me practice what I preach since I desired to see the game through. But I also gelled with its ever-escalating action the second I gibbed my first foes using a magnum revolver. Yeah, that's the kind of game to make it your first weapon. The guns are to go postal with, certified killing spree classics. All 10 of them are cranked up to 11, even melee. Of course there would be a quad shotgun, hell, have a GIGA-shotgun while you're at it, impregnate whole rooms with shrapnel in one alt-fire blast, why not!? Even the machine gun is a double-barrel. The minigun measures ammo in yards, what a nice touch! Not to mention the best flamethrower ever made. Fire gibs, too, and it feels right. Each piece is obscenely impactful, each is a nuclear option. And there's an actual nuclear option... obligation, compulsion... but who doubted at this point? Haven't seen one since Shadow Warrior, haven't met with such level of carnage since Rise of the Triad. Some visual clutter is a small price to pay for the spectacle. Sight is overrated, just don't stop your murderous rampage even for a second and you'll be fine. Suffice to say, turning hordes of failed unlife into burning puddles of slurpy sludge feels insanely satisfying. The monsters are born of torture, nurtured by rot, which shows in their painful designs. Almost as fast as you are, packing a punch, they're thankfully dumb as hell. It's useful when there's a pool of molten metal between you. For a display of good manners on the dev's part, there are no hitscanners, projectiles only. Don't worry, the wretched fiends shall still get your ass. Their malicious nature in the form of nasty backhanded tricks will become apparent soon, they put up a fight. Whatever you do, don't hesitate. Pure instinct is the only way to ensure survival, you must learn to be as primal as your enemy. Pull the trigger before anything happens - to make them belch through a thousand holes, spill into a porridge of innards, leaving gushing chunks of ludicrous gore to flood the corridors - and lower your gun only after the bloody mist settles. The bosses are fire as well... Okay, I know, right? I've made a few seemingly grotesque claims in this review. Perhaps not surgically accurate, I believe they expose the shrieking core of this game. Made of conviction and grit, Incision really goes that hard. My curator Big Bad Mutuh

Honestly, frustrating game design led me to refund this game. It is a shame as the core mechanics and gun-play are solid and the game has an appealing, grimy old-school aesthetic. The issue is that the game does not respect your time. The lack of save system early on is fine as it is a concise experience but in the later stages it really assumes the player has no life. If you die at the end of a 40 minute run, too bad. Zero progress. Whilst it played great on my desktop, the game also has limitations on Steam Deck which means it is difficult to enjoy it on the go. So frustrating to see a game with great potential suffering from poor design choices on basic mechanics that have been present since the days of Quake. There seems no obvious reason to omit these basics. Implementation of a basic save or checkpoint system and better hand-held integration would make me reconsider my review and re-purchase.
There is no saving during missions which is ridiculous considering some levels can be 20-30 minutes long. Enemies are bullet sponges making your guns feel like pea shooters. I just can't recommend this game nor finish it.
Masterclass in environment and level design. Dumpsterfire in every other way. I don't know how to describe it, but shooting feels unimpactful? The magnum offers almost nothing aside from wasting bullets, neither does the machine gun. The only thing that packs enough power to do anything is the shotgun, which means every encounter turns into kiting -> shotgun -> rinse and repeat. Difficulty modifiers are really weird, and combined with the weird save system and "gotchas" that instant kill, I don't know how the dev *wants* me to approach. On higher difficulties instead of kiting you peak around corners, and you guessed it, use the shotgun, because most of the spaces are too small to engage in a fight. These unusual design choices are hindering what would otherwise be a 10/10 game.
Having a great time so far. Gun variety Art style story Level design Some real S class boomer shooter things. However, like most neg reviews - The life system is quite... Annoying... The idea is fine - I like a good challenge. BUT if your levels are 30 MINUTES OR LONGER - it becomes very very frustrating. Like I just get killed by things that - as a player - aren't even my fault. Or instance shoving 10 million explosives in a dimly lit room with 200 enemies - it feels like "Haha ♥♥♥♥ you, go back to the start" - I know thats the point but it just leaves me feeling like my efforts were wasted. So the life system is great - no problems there - But the levels are just way to long for it to work properly
Great boomer shooter, really surprised me and I think it deserves more recognition: -Good level design with really cool grimy bio-mechanical aesthetic, and incredible BSO. -Great weapons design, love that they all feel useful through all the game, even the starter revolver has its uses, and they all have a secundary effect or interesting mechanic. -The enemy design is also outstanding, they feel challenging and interesting through the full game, and force the player to make good use of the movement to dodge their shoots and position yourself to fight back.
The good: -The Gigeresque industrial filthy gory biomechanical horror aesthetic is very well done. -Gameplay is fun. Enemies each have well-defined roles; weapons are varied and satisfying. -Level design is excellent; no overreliance on arenas like a lot of modern shooters. -The music is great. Episode 2 has the best music of the game. The bad: -The color palette. I understand the aesthetics of the game demand reds, browns, yellows, and greys, but that's about all you get. Levels blend into each other and don't stand out from one another. The enemies also frequently blur into the environment. Like I said, the overall look and art direction are great, but the lack of visual variety deeply hurts the game. -The weapons sound a little anemic. The shotgun is the biggest offender. Also, the lack of checkpoints and saving took a little bit of getting used to, but even playing on the third highest difficulty I didn't struggle too much. It's just different, and my biggest complaint would be that it makes levels feel like a commitment since they're mostly 20+ minutes each. The game has a bug that lets you go into nuke debt. I owed the game -1 nukes. Would recommend.
So much wasted potential with this game. Playing on the easiest difficulty is equal to extra hard on other games. I really had a hard time deciding whether to recommend it or not to. I have to say i wouldnt. All the enemies just take every bullet and you can go through entire ammo supplies in different weapons on just one enemy. If the enemy health were balanced and NORMAL. This would easily be a 10/10 game. However i was only able to complete the first mission, every other mission i had to use the god mode cheat to play because it is just so unbalanced! I see the developers comments about wanting to make the game hard and not just something you can run amd gun through, but there has to be some compromise. There were some points in missions where i ♥♥♥♥ you not, i was being chased down by 10 stray rpg rockets after killing the enemy, do you just run in circles forever? This game has so much potential but there needs to be changes to make it enjoyable. In its current form its just not fun, its frustrating. I really wish i could like this game because the style is so different from others in this category. Unfortunately i wont be finishing this game, not even making it past 5 mission at that. Its just so unbalanced and needs some kind of adjustment, whether its creating more difficulty settings or even some kind of mod that can make it enjoyable to casual players. I really wanted to like it and play through the campaign, but using god mode to get through the missions just sucks the fun out of it
10/10 quake enjoyers will love this
Don't pay too much mind to the negative reviews - this game is outstanding! The level and world design is top notch. It's a bloody and grotesque mess done right. I couldn't get enough of the atmosphere! The music is excellent and pairs perfectly with the gameplay (I call it industrial techno gore). Weapon selection is great too - abundant but not overkill - there's always a right choice for each scenario. It isn't groundbreaking, nor does it have any fancy gimmicks - it's run, shoot, and kill - just how I like my shooters. Most levels took me about 20-30 min to complete. It's not too common to see a game like this with no saves or checkpoints, but like others have said, it definitely adds to the dread. It can also be quite difficult, but once you learn enemy patterns, it becomes much easier (relatively) and you will find yourself stacking extra lives. This game won't hold your hand and you WILL get frustrated, but don't be a baby and cry about it. Instead, have some patience and use your brain for once. Get over not having your precious F6 button. Seems well optimized and runs smooth. Worth full price.
