About

First-person shooter with survival horror elements
Scientific horror atmosphere
Low-poly graphics aesthetics reminiscent of late 90's games
Expanding on the story established in 'Snowsquall Grip', 'Re.Surs', and 'Plastomorphosis'
In the heart of Modern-City, the Continent's sprawling capital, an ominous discovery was made: dark energy particles accumulating at an unprecedented rate.
The Supreme One's Government immediately began construction of a classified laboratory complex within the imposing Nexus Tower. This colossal structure dominates the skyline, serving as both a governmental headquarters and a research facility.
Scientists studying the mysterious concentration proposed the "Synthesis" experiment – an ambitious attempt to isolate and manipulate a single dark particle.
Success would unlock the secrets of the Re.Surs, the unique dark energy that has permeated the entire Continent since the events documented in the "Snowsquall Grip" classified event.
But now this catastrophic failure threatens the future of not only Modern-City, but all life on the Continent.
As the assistant researcher arriving late to your shift, you alone must contain the corruption that scientists couldn't control.

SoC is supposedly a mix of Half-Life and old school Resident Evil. I have not played the former (yet) to make any educated comparison, but I can see it with the latter when it comes to item management and that feeling of hopelessness. The game is also very atmospheric, has some nice mini-puzzles and it makes good use of the notes it has. It’s well paced, has enough variety with the enemies, the achievements are pleasantly straightforward and the writing in English is a big step up compared to the developer’s previous games. Speaking of, the lore here is a treat and clearer to follow. The game’s length feels perfect, it took me around 4.5 hours the first time on normal. When it comes to the cons, the biggest ones would be getting used to the enemy behaviour in relation with the controls and jumping in general. The game feels like it controls terribly or the enemies are unfair if you’re not familiar with them. The ones that use guns will always hit you if you’re in an open area. But then I started noticing how the game prefers an aggressive style, as in you getting closer to the enemies so they will use melee instead of their guns more often. This does come with risks but it work best with most situations. Jumping just feels awkward in different ways. There are times where it looks like you can jump higher than the obstacles in front of you but ‘you shall not pass!’ anyway. You also have issues with not being able to jump when you are too close to other objects. You have to reposition yourself by creating distance. All these problems are subdued with time because you do get used to it, but I wish jumping was handled better though. At the end of the day, SoC is a decent and even great game if you are fan of old school design. This isn’t an arcade like shooter where you get to feel like you’re untouchable. This is a slower paced game that is made smartly and with care with the limited budget it has. As a fan of this developer’s games, I am happy with what I got. I like that all my feedback with the demo was implemented to improve the full game (thanks if you’re reading this dev!). It took me around 8.5 hours to complete the game twice (second time on hard difficulty) and get all the achievements. The normal price of €9 is fair, but around €7 is more competitive and ‘get it right now!’ territory. That’s how much I paid with the launch and bundle discounts on steam.
I would say I was a bit on the fence of not giving this game a thumbs down due since I liked the game a bit but there were multiple issues of bad game design. The biggest problem with Synthesis of Corruption is the issue of where it is hard to tell what to do or where to go since there were multiple instances where I got lost. The dumbest one I encountered was the vent section where you specifically had to grab a box to climb shelves to get into the vent (which was not very obvious) when it looked like you could just use that box to jump onto the box moving back and forth to get in but couldn't do it due to the dev not wanting you to. The other issue is stamina when you are dealing with fast enemies since you have the stamina of a gordon freeman in his 80s or something lol. The final issue I could think of are the enemies being the security zombies having aimbot and hitting you 100% of the time they see you and the headcrabs taking two hits to kill on normal difficulty. The game does have a hint system but it doesn't last very long and some items like keycards are easy to miss. I also almost gave up on the game at the end since like I mentioned before there are fast enemies and you don't have a lot of stamina to really keep your distance from them. I got lucky in the end with the limited amount of stuff I had and beat that part thankfully I did like the design of the game and it does have Half Life inspiration to it but this game really needed a playtest before release. https://youtu.be/zQ-D4njsLj0
really enjoyed this, well made game
Very solid survival horror game. It reminds me of the Half Life series but in a horror environment. Played for nearly an hour. The head crab like things in this game are not to be played with haha. Gameplay Impressions: https://youtu.be/4qlRgSGa6mw
Mixed bag, pretty interesting but the levels get convoulted, making it hard to figure out where to go.
возможно вдохновлялись халфой. пока ждём 3 часть, можно обратить внимание на похожее. https://youtu.be/8nSX_F6DAJ0
Heavy Half Life vibes, fun short but sweet shooter with a few puzzle and jumping sections. Heavy ammo / health management on hard gives it mild survival horror vibes
Very fun "what if Half-Life 1 but all horror" little game. Short and nicely paced. The horror aspects are more akin to Doom 3 and Return to Castle Wolfenstein (not so much RE). The only 2 minor gripes I had with it were: *Critical items can be very hard to spot in the clutter, but maybe that was totally intentional. Certainly after your first hour-or-so of playing, you will start to pay more attention after having noticed this design characteristic yourself -hopefully-. *Movement can be kinda awkward and inconsistent, particularly during platforming. Being this a Half-like, you would expect crouch-jumping to be a thing, and it kinda is, but also kinda not, sometimes it feels like you kinda have to trick the game engine into achieving this sort of thing. Overall: if it looked interesting to you, I would say GO FOR IT.
A bit like Half-Life with some aspects. Headcrab like creatures, the facility design, and boxes to break. I think the Half-Life resemblance is the only thing that kept me playing after the first hour. Despite the game's description listing FPS-horror hybrid, and the trailer being quite combat focused, it's more of a horror game with some FPS moments. And the FPS part of the game isn't very good. It's old school, and at first is enjoyable enough. But as you play it just devolves into this room filled with enemies trope that is only fun if the gunplay is fun. Which it is not. Traversal through the facility can be cumbersome and frustrating at times. You'll often find something you can interact with, but do not have a required item to do so. The game gives you a hint of where it is that's up for a handful of seconds. Not a terrible idea, but somewhat useless when you have to travel through winding hallways and become disoriented. Basically sometimes it can be easy to find the thing you're looking for. Other times it's difficult for little convenient reason. There's a ton of back and forth travel like this and it becomes tiresome. There's some platforming or jumping on things to be done, and all of it is fairly negative. You've got baby legs, so can't jump high. Thankfully you can pick up boxes to jump on and then jump onto the other places. Though, sometimes you can't because of reasons I guess. So you decide that's the wrong place to jump up, and you go on a trek to find a new place that's probably right. Turns out the first place was the right place, but you have to put the box in the exact right spot in order to make the jump. And, I made it fairly close to the end I think. But that dangling carrot no longer felt enticing.
Not my thing, but the game looks and sounds great, the atmosphere is tense, and the gameplay - while being standard FPS survival horror - is solid enough.
