This novel is difficult to recommend as the writers made it as tough as possible to simply like Abel as he’s rating every “MILF” and woman he sees on their “assets.” The first two dates you go on, Able just tries, and succeeds, on getting as drunk as possible to the point he’s vomiting on his shoes and Edmund needs to drive Able's inebriated self back to his home after he cusses Edmund out and calls him names, while Able complains about [i]every single aspect[/i] of his depressing life, and Edmund wants to “fix him” when he should be getting a therapist instead. [I] In Fair Spirits [/i] is a spin-off of two yuri novels I haven't read yet. But even as a separate story this BxB novel was such an enjoyable read! I actually constantly play several VNs at the same time. They are always different in mood, so I like balancing them, changing often, slowly savoring the content. I didn't expect to finish this novel so fast but I just couldn't stop yesterday. It was too irresistible! I llove when it happens. As always, what I especially appreciate is the writing. I honestly can't find words to express what a pleasure it is for me. I've already chosen my next ebi-hime's novel I'm going to read. I noticed it has my native language there as well but I seriously doubt reading in it can be half as exciting. Here I felt so connected with the protagonist:) He was born centuries ago but appeared in our world, so it's a bit of a struggle for him with all the modern technologies AND new language xD And I felt so related T_T All those informal words, idioms Abel and MC's cousin used were beyond my understanding:( I keep waiting that moment when I actually reach ebi-hime's level and will be able to read her stories without consulting the dictionary all the time. And it was a bit of a pleasant surprise for me to reach [spoiler] a happy ending [/spoiler]. Though the game has all those typical (for ebi-hime) dire topics like: bullying, death, bereavement, grieving, suicidal thoughts, depression. And even when astonished I finished the story [spoiler]on a positive note[/spoiler], I got the last part of MC's boyfriend pov of rather difficult period of their relationship. It WAS painful to read, so even in this 'relaxing' story I still was made to suffer at the very end XD That awesome feature of all ebi-hime's novels—Notes with her thoughts revealed some interesting details again. Comparing my impression with her feelings made me ponder over some things. And I actually didn't realize myself that now a depressed character is of a different type—he's an extrovert, not unsociable hermit as before. Honestly, I didn't even pay attention to that fact, I guess because I truly agree with the idea expressed there: “Cultures and values can vary a lot between people, but depression is universal!” It's a boys' love story, no explicit content, just a couple of kissing CGs. Sadly, it's rather short. Sometimes it was so catchy and pleasant, I was astonished. I make it as quiet as possible in other novels but here I was just sitting and enjoying it! <3 +cute art; +achievements; +awesome features like Notes or saves with names, feels like reading a real book with chapters. +the story felt so realistic and immersive. I lloved those mobile messages with typos, or spaces at the wrong places:) It happens with me all the time) +it's that kind of story that made me FEEL! I recollected how I was grieving when my sister died, here 2 chars experience the same tragedy. I kept giggling reading their romantic interactions, I worried about that old lady, that made me think a lot about being old... So I wasn't indifferent at all! That's just perfect! +it's that kind of story that made me THINK! I contemplated about what is right and wrong again in different cultures. We are taught to be considerate, to give space but I'm all for listening to your own heart even if it's against the accepted rules. Poor Abel wouldn't suffer so much if MC actually did what he wanted—called to him immediately. That modern tendency that the pained, the suffered, the depressed has to gather the strength and courage to ask for help themself, to make the first step is honestly disgusting. It feels so egoistic! I was hurt, I'm afraid to lose him, so I'll just do nothing and wait. Welp, I don't accuse mc here, he's too inexperienced and he was hurt badly (I felt his pain deeply) but that advice he got from his only 2 close ppl was so meh, in my opinion(( Or I also contemplated how much poor Abel apologized for 'trauma dumping'. When did it become so wrong to share your problems with friends?! Why should I share only positive moments?! I'd feel only honored if someone was totally open with me about all their troubles. I mean, I know the therapists' work is important, but just being there, listening for those in need, why is it so wrong?! Actually the very same evening I read that scene in the novel, in discord one American friend started venting but soon stopped and even repeated the same words about 'trauma dumping'. It doesn't feel right and natural not to be able to talk freely with your friends. [i]In Fair Spirits[/i] is a yaoi kinetic novel about a centuries old knight and a modern day goth boy who find understanding and love within each other. [h2][u]The Story[/u][/h2] Long ago a curse befell you while trying to save your sister (the full story is in the two previous games The Fairy’s Song followed by The Fairy’s Secret). However this is a stand-alone novel so you do not need to read the previous titles to enjoy this one. The prologue will summarize the previous two games leading up to modern day. The curse drove you mad for centuries but you were eventually freed and killed but only your body. Your spirit was resurrected to eventually face off against the wicked fairies and their evil Queen Titania. You won that battle and now free from the curse you are able to have another chance at life after all that has happened. In the present day you find yourself in 21st century England in the small town of Fenchapel living a quiet and peaceful life, for now… 🌶️ Spice Level - lightly medium. There is no graphic imagery or nudity, just kissing and a bit of sexual teasing and banter. [h2][u]Settings, Features & Gameplay[/u][/h2] Settings & features include; display options, transitions on or off, text skip options, language and audio controls. The text is very easy to read, has lots of save slots and you can take screen captures by pressing down on your mouse scroll wheel or pressing H. You can rewind the text or skip forward. Extras include a selection of music to listen to, a cg gallery with images that unlock as you play and a locked section which becomes available after the main story. This is a kinetic novel so no choices are made on the part of the reader. All achievements are earned by simply enjoying the novel. [h2][u]The Visuals & Audio[/u][/h2] There is no doubt looking at the screen captures on the store page that the art is beautiful and one of my main reasons for being drawn to this novel. The sprites do have facial animations and sometimes have different poses. The backgrounds look really good too, and mesh well with the character art. The story is fluid and well written with phrases and words relevant to a modern day visual novel. The story does have some darker, heartfelt moments that the two share, it is not all romance. They are both damaged and broken in some way and that hurt is what ultimately brings them together and through that love. Once you're done with the main story the “unlocked” part in the Extras will open up for a bit more story and unlock your last achievement as well. This was so freaking worth it! You know how novels "call out" to you? This was it for me. The pinning down scene? A damn great bonus... Along with the guys... And the story and... Okay, okay! First I got used to Tavi and Yuel in different timelines and now these two! I gotta say, I had trouble putting this down... And now I want to read it again... Damn it...! The backgrounds are fun and colorful... The music is peaceful... The guys are adorable... The story IS sweet and charming... Along with dramatic moments which are necessary... Iris is a fun grandma... I also like that the CGs show off dust flying around... Especially at night. Weird thing to focus on, but okay. I almost want to know what will happen if Edmund tells Abel the truth about his past... Yet at the same time it was already addressed (a teensy bit)... So that leaves the aftermath of how they continued to get along and where life took them... Which in itself would be fun to ponder! I kept expecting supernatural elements to turn up and Edmund to bust out his sword (an actual weapon)... Especially with the mention of goblins and fairies... But then this story didn't need it! It was fine the way it was. I know it seems like I am worshiping this a bit (although believe me... That's not what my version of worshiping looks like)... But the lessons really resonated with me. It was... Comforting... And the not giving up... Continuing to keep on going... Yes. I'm just grateful I read it and... I am pretty certain this novel had a few nods to other novels... [i]In Fair Spirits[/i] is a yaoi kinetic visual novel developed and published by ebi-hime. It's a sequel/spin-off to [i]The Fairy's Song[/i] and [i]The Fairy's Secret[/i], both of which are yuri visual novels. However, it isn't necessary to have played either of these VNs before delving into [i]In Fair Spirits[/i], but I'm getting slightly ahead of myself. XD You take on the role of Edmund, a knight from a time before England became a country, who has been given a new lease on life, thanks to his sister, Leofe. Edmund summarizes the events that occurred in [i]The Fairy's Song[/i] and [i]The Fairy's Secret[/i], leading to his current situation. Edmund is living a quiet life in the small village of Fenchapel with Iris, Marnie's grandmother, helping her with cooking and chores around the house. As he stops by the local convenience store one morning to buy a couple of necessities, instead of meeting the store's owner, Edmund meets Abel, the owner's son who has come home for the summer from university. Abel couldn't be any more different from Edmund, dressing in dark clothes and being more of an extrovert, his manner of speech leaning on the crass side at times. However, as Edmund gets to spend time with Abel through a few random encounters, he finds himself getting closer to Abel. Abel does have a secret of his own, though, but I'll stop my synopsis here to avoid spoilers and all that. ^^ As for the gameplay, [i]In Fair Spirits[/i] is a linear novel, so there aren't any choices whatsoever. You simply play through the story from beginning to end. However, there are several CGs shown as well as a varied soundtrack, both with returning tracks and a couple of new ones. Also, there are Steam achievements although they won't count towards a user's global total until the game is out of "Steam is learning about this game". Now that I've gone over the story and gameplay, I'll move onto my thoughts. I am partial to ebi-hime's VNs and I especially enjoy [i]The Fairy's Song[/i] universe, so I was very excited to learn that there would be a spin-off/sequel to [i]The Fairy's Secret[/i], starring Edmund. Although Marnie and Lisbeth (especially when they're together) are my favorite characters from that universe, I'm happy that Edmund gets his own story this time, especially since he returned as a supporting character (getting his own redemption arc) in [i]The Fairy's Secret[/i]. I enjoyed following Edmund as he lives his life in Fenchapel, trying to get used to the 21st century while finding a way to cope with his sister's passing. It's obvious how old-fashioned Edmund is by the way he talks and behaves. Then there's Abel, who ends up becoming Edmund's love interest. In regards to both appearances and personality, Abel couldn't be any more different from Edmund. However, there is the saying that opposites attract, and I think it definitely applies to these two. Also, they do end up having something in common [spoiler]with their siblings having passed away[/spoiler]. I like the chemistry Edmund and Abel have going on and how they get closer to the point where they confess that they like each other. It's understandable that it isn't easy for either of them to get to that point since Edmund has never expressed any sort of romantic love while Abel hasn't really been in a serious romantic relationship, despite having had relationships with both females and males. Their romance is sweet with a bit of mischievousness on Abel's side, and I couldn't help rooting for them. Also, on a side note, I'm happy that Marnie and Lisbeth from [i]The Fairy's Song[/i] and [i]The Fairy's Secret[/i] make a return appearance, as it's great to see how these two are getting along. ^^ As for the writing, it's paced fairly well. There are the occasional huge time skips where several days pass before certain events proceed. I think that this is fine since it would be a bit boring to narrate events on a day-to-day basis. Also, I noticed a few typos, but they don't distract from enjoying the story overall, and they'll probably be fixed in future updates. In regards to the art, it's as beautiful as always. The style is the same as in [i]The Fairy's Song[/i] and [i]The Fairy's Secret[/i], which makes sense to keep up with the consistency. It goes without saying that the sprites and backgrounds are drawn well, and the colors are used just right, giving off that bright atmosphere. As for the music, most of the tracks are the same as in the previous games, but there are a couple of new tracks. I don't mind that most of the tracks are the same, as they give off that whole being in Fenchapel and the surrounding areas feelings familiarity. As I mentioned, there are a couple of new tracks, so it's great that there's a bit of variety. Overall, would I recommend [i]In Fair Spirits[/i]? If you enjoy ebi-hime's visual novels, especially [i]The Fairy's Song[/i] universe, and are looking for a sweet yaoi romance, this is totally worth taking a look. I like how well written the romance between Edmund and Abel is, and I especially love that Edmund gets his own happily ever after, especially after all he's been through. If there is one minor thing that I should point out, it's that [i]In Fair Spirits[/i] doesn't have the fantasy aspects, like witches or fairies, that the other stories had. However, considering what happens at the end of [i]The Fairy's Secret[/i], it makes sense as to why this is the case. Anyway, for the asking price, I'd say that it's about worth it, as it took me around 6.5 hours to complete the story, all of the extra content, and obtain all of the achievements. I am a slow reader, though, so it might take less time for others. However, you can wait to get it on sale, and it's in a couple of Steam bundles. I absolutely loved this VN, i honestly haven't read the first 2 so a bit of context may have been lost but even as a stand alone i really enjoyed this story. The characters are interesting and well developed and the pace was a slow burn but with a lively amount of drama. Honestly i would love it if this story got its own sequel, i am a bit sad Ed never comes clean about his origins... Like for real i would chomp at the bit for a follow up if the author would consider it. Seriously that would be my one complaint... that its not enough. 10\10 would recommend this story.

A sweet, slow, satisfying sentimental story.

Ich bewerte das Spiel gemeinsam mit meiner Freundin @Minacat Unsere Spielzeit war: 12 Stunden. Eine nette Idee aber leider mangelte es etwas an der Umsetzung. Der Zeichenstil ist wirklich niedlich - ich liebe die Hintergründe und die Musik war solide - nichts überwältigendes aber es passte meistens zur Situation. Es gibt eine schöne Gallery und ein kleines Extra, was nicht jedes VN bietet - ich und meine Freundin schätzen es sehr, wenn man zum Schluss ein Album zur Verfügung hat um sich die Bilder nochmals anzusehen. Man kann hier keine Entscheidungen treffen, was nicht unbedingt ein Negativpunkt ist - es ist Geschmackssache. Als kleine Warnung voraus: Wir hatten nur ein Bruchteil des ersten Teils gespielt ( das Yuri Game). Viele sagen zwar, dass man die Story skippen kann, doch fehlt besonders für Eds Story dann die Information. Denn manchmal geht es über seine Schwester und ich und meine Freundin haben uns sehr gewundert, weil wir eigentlich dachten, dass [spoiler] die Braunhaarige die Schwester sei, jedoch war sie nur diejenige...die ihn abgestochen hat. Den Verwandtschaftsgrad haben wir auch leider nicht so ganz verstanden.[/spoiler] Zur eigentlich Story: Die Story war zu Beginn sehr interessant aufgebaut. Wir haben uns gefreut, dass der Bruder von Leofe ins 21. Jahrhundert wiedergeboren werden konnte und somit eine zweite Chance für ein besseres Leben bekam. Dazu lernte er seinen ersten Crush - Abel - kennen und die Geschichte ihrer Liebe fing erst gut an bis sie plötzlich durch einen stark wiederholenden Twist den Bach unterging und wirklich lange brauchte, bis sie sich wieder erholte. Es wurde wirklich sehr toxisch zwischen den beiden Jungs und wir übertreiben hier nicht. Zuerst Ed: [spoiler] Er ist rein und unschuldig - und wir haben ihn sehr gelobt wir seinen langen Geduldsfaden gegenüber Abel. Wir beide waren der Meinung, dass es eigentlich ihm sehr viel schlechter erging, als Abel...denn hatte er ein 1000 Jahre langes Traumata hinter sich, seine Schwester wollte nichts mehr von ihm wissen - weil er zu sehr gehangen hat und die einzige (körperlich-nahe) Gesprächsparterin, die er hatte war die Großmutter... Er sollte die Welt neu entdecken, doch lebte er direkt neben seinem Triggerpunkt, wo er so lange von den Feen gefangen war und verzweifelt nach seiner Schwester suchte. Er brauchte unbedingt eine Therapie und es war traurig zu sehen, dass er sich bis zum Schluss nicht getraut hatte die ganze Wahrheit Abel zu erzählen - es wurde nur angedeutet zum Schluss, dass es womöglich Abel akzeptieren würde... nachdem er einige Male gesagt hat, dass die Großmutter verrückt sei, weil sie an Feen glaubt. Er tat uns sehr leid, denn wurde er sehr oft von seinem Freund beleidigt, der ihn immer wieder triggerte und ...er schluckte einfach alles hinunter bis er einmal zusammenbrach. Wir hoffen sehr für ihre Zukunft, dass Ed sich irgendwann mehr traut etwas gegen Abel zu sagen und auch an seine eigenen Gefühle zu denken - denn egal wie schlecht es Abel ging, er hatte keine Recht gehabt Ed so zu schändigen. Wir möchten nur einen zweiten Teil haben, damit es mal mehr um die Verarbeitung von Eds Traumatas geht - seine Geschichte wurde im Vergleich zu Abel sehr heruntergespielt, die wir so viel schlimmer fanden. Er war ein süßer Junge und eigentlich hat er jemanden besseres verdient aber wir hoffen einfach sehr, dass Abel sich zusammenreisst und auch ma an Eds Gefühle denkt.[/spoiler] Zu Abel: [spoiler] Er ist sehr egoistisch und sucht nie die Probleme bei sich selber, sondern gibt einfach anderen immer und immer wieder die Schuld. Natürlich haben wir es verstanden, dass er ein schwieriges Schicksal hatte und ein Minderwertigkeitsgefühl entwickelte aufgrund seiner Familie, die ihn immer mit seiner Schwester verglichen. Jedoch hatten wir es irgendwann wirklich satt gehabt den Satz: "Aber meine Mutter hat...und meine Schwester..." zu hören - er wiederholte die Probleme immer und immer wieder, er hat sie wahrlich durchgekaut vor Ed und anderen Personen. Er wurde früher gemobbt und hatte keine wirklichen Freunde - aber zusätzlich akzeptierte er auch nicht die Hilfe anderer ...er wollte ja nicht Mal, dass man den Krankenwagen für ihn ruft, als er einen Unfall hatte. Dazu war es wirklich schrecklich zu lesen, wie er auf Ed los ist, nachdem er einen Streit mit seiner Mutter hatte. Egal ob er sich nun entschuldigte oder nicht -Abel ging es immer nur um sich selbst ... Er kümmerte sich nur um sein eigenes Glück, fragte Ed nie viel um seine Vergangenheit, denn hatte er zu viel Zeit damit verschwendet über seine Mutter zu nörgeln. Leider hat er sich im Verlauf der Story in unserer Sicht Ed nicht bewiesen, dass er sich ändern würde...Die meisten Gutherzigkeiten und Zuneigungen kamen immer von Ed - es ging auch immer nur um Abels Vorlieben, weil Ed eben ein Gentleman war und sich immer um ihn sorgte...Die schlimmste Szene war, als Abel Ed massiv beleidigte und um die 100 Mal fragte, ob Ed schwul...und ihn dann noch als ein ♥♥♥ bezeichnete - obwohl er es doch war, der ihn küsste...Auch, wenn er es am Ende nicht so gemeint hatte, hätten wir gerne ein bisschen mehr Reue von seiner Seite aus gespürt - anstatt, dass Ed einfach alles verzeiht. Außerdem fanden wir es sehr unangenehm, dass er seine Vorlieben - die MILFs - immer vor Ed hinausposaunte, obwohl Ed es so oft sagte, dass er es nicht hören möchte. In einer Boys Love Story möchte nur die Minderheit etwas von großen Titten wissen oder wie heiß Abel doch seine Frauen mag...Genau da, wo wir dachten, dass es zu einem schönen Date kommt zwischen ihm und Ed - sprach er die ganze Zeit nur von heißen Frauen und das er saufen will. ♥♥♥, er hatte einen schweren Tag aber ... das Innige Gespräch über ihre Schwestern wurde mit dieser Szene komplett zerstört, es kam so vor als waren sie durch seine Art wieder auf 0 angelangt. Wir waren gegen Ende schon fast überrascht, dass Abel sich am Ende entschuldigte, jedoch hatte er sehr oft den Faden verloren...Wir lieben Drama aber nicht in diesem Aufbau, wo der ...der am meisten verletzt einfach untergebuttert wird. [/spoiler] Zum Ende [spoiler] Wir haben uns sehr gefreut, dass die zwei Mädchen es auch in die Geschichte geschafft haben. Jedoch hätten wir lieber ein wenig mehr Zweisamkeit bei Abel und Ed gewünscht, da sie so einen heftigen Konflikt davor hatten. Plötzlich aber skippte die Autorin die Tage, als sei alles einfach wieder Friede-Freude-Eierkuchen. Es war toll zu sehen, dass sie sich so gut verstanden, jedoch hätten wir uns viel mehr gefreut, wenn es lieber darum ging, dass Ed seinem neuen Boyfriend das Geheimnis offenbarte. Auch war es schade, dass der Lake ...wo Ed lange gefangen war so wenig mit einbezogen wurde...Die Szene hätte man auch für ihre Liebesbeziehung verwenden können. Süß, dass sie zum Konzert gingen, doch wäre vielleicht ein Trip zum Abschluss cool gewesen, den beiden auch zusagte...Auch wenn Ed für seine Liebe vieles aushält. [/spoiler] Fazit: Dadurch, dass die Charakterentwicklung sehr mangelhaft war und es oft nur um die Geschichte einer Person ging würde ich das Spiel nicht empfehlen. Für uns war es statt eine süße erste Liebe eher...eine toxische Liebe, die eine Menge Dornen aufgefasst hat. Außerdem gab es hin und wieder so starke Wiederholungen, dass wir sie beinahe geskippt hatten, da wir das Wort "Mama" oder "MILF" einfach nicht mehr lesen konnten. Die Hintergrundbeschreibung war auch für unseren Geschmack sehr detailliert und die Nebencharaktere kamen uns sehr belanglos vor. Falls eine Fortsetzung heraus käme würden wir dem Spiel eine weitere Chance geben, wenn es endlich um Eds Geschichte geht und man merkt, dass sie nun wirklich eine süße Liebesbeziehung führen. Wir haben Hoffnungen, da das Ende (die letzten 5 Minuten) ganz süß war.

Well there's only so much that I can stand. Good for you Edmund. It hard to like Abel in the first place but as the story continues he making it a challenge to like him. By the time he "change new leaf", I am already tired of him and doesn't care anymore about him. A character can be both flawed and likable but Abel is just not likable to me personally. You can write whole essay on why he turn out like this but in the end I am too tired of him to care.
