what started out as being really gender envious of the protagonist led to me being unable to stop crying for several hours
Twofold is a visual and written masterpiece that leaves the player feeling many different positive emotions during the paths they can take. I'm not really good at writing reviews, but whenever I recommend games to anyone my go to will always have Twofold HIGH in the list of recommendations. I played this originally on it's release date in October 2023 and even now in June 2025 this has been something unchanging for me. Twofold will ALWAYS be something special - no matter how many years will pass. From a stunning soundtrack, incredible art, beautiful emotionally-driven writing, and phenomenal voice cast there is a lot that will leave the players wanting more and feeling satisfied with the choices they've made in game. Twofold does a lot of things brilliantly, but the way it handles its characters is something so compelling and beautiful you can truly tell the writers felt passionate not only for the story but for the way they portrayed each individual person. Even background characters will have their small moments to shine, and you will find yourself ( as a player ) attaching yourself to at least one of the characters in Twofold emotionally. Twofold will make you want to see them succeed. The two main story paths bring such dynamic and brilliant point of views to an overarching plot and being able to witness it from both sides allows the player to truly see the world from two different perspectives and form their own feelings towards the characters involved. Please make sure you play all routes and Perfect Circle for the best experience. I, personally, have such a love and adoration for the Millie route and it continues to feel the strongest route for my own personal playthroughs. Olive, as a protagonist, is also such a brilliant character that you can't help but relate to in some way. The humanisation of their experiences in the world, the way the story allows you to just breathe and experience their struggles alongside them at their pace - the way it makes you feel like you can relate and share with their thoughts is so well crafted visually and in text. The voice acting for Olive is beyond phenomenal and matches their character perfectly and genuinely was a brilliant casting decision. Twofold, for me, has easily become something to treasure which has led me to buying it for a couple of friends due to the sheer joy this game has brought me in my time playing it and wanting to share it. I've also gained a small collection of Twofold merch over this time, as well, which I hope they will continue to release more Twofold merch in the coming years. Twofold also has the win of being the first visual novel I have finished all routes for AND sobbed multiple times over ( due to how incredible the moments in story can get - both in sad and happy moments ) and continues to be the only visual novel I have picked up again and again after completing it. To this day I continue to pick it up just to experience it's magic on days I want to feel emotions and get lost in music and it's scenes are always as magical as the first time i've played them. So, Twofold will always be something I recommend and I do hope you give it a try! It is worth your time and your money spent and will change your life in so many ways ( /pos )
it might be a little pricy for a visual novel but dont let that turn you away genuinely one of the best ones ive read
First off, I am honoured to be the 69th person to review this Visual Novel. ^^ As for the game itself, had a great time with it! In terms of technical aspects, the art style of the game is very easy on the eyes, with the characters in particular having incredibly appealing designs, my favourite of which would probably be Millie, and I haven't ran into any sort of bugs or performance errors, the UI is also easy to navigate. The writing for the game is also on point. As of writing, I've completed the Millie route, and reached act 1 of Caprice's route, and my personal favourite members of the cast are Olive, Millie, Allison, August and Mike. Definitely looking forward to finishing Caprice's route, and can definitely say based on my experience that the Millie route alone is reason enough to play this game. ^^
good yuri game
It's sooo good, my new favourite slice-of-lifey romance VN! Olive is a very relateable protagonist, the art is gorgeous, characters are well-written... I love them all (yes, even Heather) but I especially love Caprice & Millie <3
Also, god, Perfect Circle just... destroyed me
This is my favorite visual novel of all time, and one of my favorite games to boot. Twofold is an extremely well-rounded experience whose quality reflects the care and time that went into it. The only reason this took me so long to review is I had too much good to say to put into words. (However I am also doing it to take spot #69 among the reviews.) Graphics: Though the sprite and background art didn't initially blow me away, it works quite nicely and fits the more down-to-earth tone of the game. CGs are beautiful. Both Perfect Circle and the epilogues contain lovely watercolor-esque sections FILLED with illustrations. I love a lot of the small details too; the UI is wonderful and filled with touches like each character having a signature pattern for their dialogue box or choices having little chibis that change depending on who you roll over. Sound: Lovely soundtrack that sets the tone of the game and absolutely STELLAR voice work. The romantic leads (and their mothers, who share voice actors) especially have some insanely good emotional performances. I'm usually not someone who fixates much on voice acting so the fact some of their line deliveries stick so clearly in my head says a lot. QoL/Technical Elements: I don't think I ever had any technical issues nor do I remember any typos. Admittedly played it long enough ago I have forgotten some of these details, haha. Has a classic suite of VN features like a song player and cg gallery, as well as a scene select which is quite handy. The song player was especially nice before the Perfect Circle standalone release since the OST for that hadn't been available for purchase yet. Plot and Characters: Obviously this is the most important element, and probably just as obviously the part I can most wildly praise. Though Twofold is a romance game and Olive's relationship with the leads is quite sweet to watch develop, the parts of the story that shine the brightest aren't actually the romance elements; the story has a profound interest in exploring themes about processing trauma, memory, and above all else family. Both Millie and Caprice's routes are about the same story, but I was surprised by how little overlap they actually share. Scenes are almost never repeated outside of one incident that causes significant conflict on both sides. Thematically they also both tread very different grounds, and you get greater insight on the flaws and struggles of each girl depending on who you chose to spend time with. When played together, it's very easy to understand why their interpersonal conflict is so messy despite both sides putting in a LOT of effort to improve. Their issues come not from simple misunderstandings but deep-rooted struggles that naturally lead to them clashing despite their best efforts. Despite this, both routes are also filled with an incredible sense of love and warmth between the main cast and their families. No matter how often they struggle, you see over and over again just how deeply they care about each other and want things to improve. There's a powerful sense of loss given by the fighting between Caprice and Millie because you can clearly see how desperately they want their loving relationship back. This makes it all the more cathartic when you actually reach the endings for either character. I can't pick a favorite route. Both are made leagues better by the opposite route existing. This is not even mentioning the friendship sub-routes with each character, all of which are worth seeing. I love how different the tone of the art and writing clubs are and how this impacts the way the friend routes play out. I don't want to spoil too much, so I'll just say that while all the friend routes and club resolutions are fulfilling some are definitely fulfilling in different ways (looking at you, Heather). They give you reasons to enjoy the side cast in their own right but also tie in well to the love interests' personal struggles and tell you more about them as people. And finally, I would be remiss to not mention Perfect Circle, which unlocks on completion of both routes. I don't think this counts as a spoiler anymore given its standalone release. Twofold was already a 10/10 experience for me before Perfect Circle, but PC ended up being the best part of the entire game. It is incredibly, vividly personal. At the time it struck a bit of a chord with me, leaving me sobbing on and off for probably a couple hours. It is hopeful and warm and loving but nonetheless bittersweet. It's such a tender, grounded experience that's indicative of everything I love about this story. Learning the process behind its creation was not at all a surprise to me given how powerfully autobiographical it felt while playing. It might sound a bit pretentious, but it is to me one of the purest examples of what people mean when they talk about self-expression through art and keeping a preserving a part of the human experience through stories. It means a lot to me that this story exists. All in all, Twofold is a warm hug of a game. It's loving and gentle but at the same time made me cry way more times than I could put a number to. Despite its very personal and down-to-earth tone, every piece of it feels extraordinarily well crafted and elegantly slots together to create a very holistic experience. I really can't recommend it enough to anyone interested in realistic, well-rounded interpersonal conflicts that are nonetheless filled with love and joy.
Twofold is a visual novel that is very clear with what it wants to do, with your protagonist being more than anything just a vehicle to see the story between Caprice and Millie (Both of the dateable characters) develop. Twofold is cozy, charming and endearing. However, Twofold tries to achieve something deeper and more complex towards the end of both Millie's and Caprices arc, failing to fully explore the themes that it touches on. First of all, I'd say that twofold has a lot of good things going for it. The artstyle is beautiful, it has a very distinct look between CGs and sprites, specifically the CGs have a very good style that make them look super cute and lovely. The UI and QOL features work perfectly and help the experience feel a lot more complete. Extras menu lets you see all the CGs and their variations very quickly, scenes are very easily replayable and easy to understand when they start and when they end, each track is easily accesible as well. The voice acting is extremely solid. No one character is too loud, annoying or given voices that don't fit. Some scenes I just couldn't imagine without the voice acting and it really elevates the experience to what it is. The game offers a lot of replayability. The game is divided into two main routes: Caprice's Art Club and Millie's Writing Club, with each route having three different subplots with 3 members of the clubs. The subplots don't add tons of things to the routes, adding up to 4 different scenes with nice dialogue and some extra themes that make each playthrough feel different. There's no multiple endings, but if you have played or are interested in playing twofold you MUST play both routes. The story of the game is not complete until you finish both routes, giving you not only a full perspective of the story's conflict but unlocking all of the soundtrack and a short visual novel that sheds some light on the backstory of TwoFold's characters. Really, play everything the game has to offer to get a full experience and unlock everything! Twofold's issues, however, have to mostly do with its side characters and third acts. The story is divided into three acts and a prologue. The prologue serves mostly to introduce the characters in order to make the choice of who's route to follow. The first act is mostly focused on Olive and building the relationship between them and the girl of choice. Until here the game is still charming, funny and a very good read, but towards the end of the second act and all of the third act the real conflict of the game starts to show. Both routes share the same conflict, with the real novelty being the unique perspective you get from both characters, but the pacing becomes somewhat rushed. The family issues between Caprice and Millie are mostly crammed into a third act that is not long enough to explore the more complex themes that the game tries to touch on. Mortality, forgetting loved ones, the importance of communication, etc. We spend most of the game having fun and building relationships, but the main conflict involves secondary characters that don't have nearly enough screentime or dialogue to make you fully invested into their stories. Perfect Circle, the unlockable visual novel after finishing both routes, does an excellent job at exploring them, but it's all during an epilogue that doesn't last very long and that only makes me wish some of it was in the main game. Scenes can also last very little, with the game feeling like it's just giving you the information that you need and then moving on very quickly. I would have personally preferred spending some more time with chat, banter and more dialogue with the characters, even if not all of it were to be absolutely key to the story. Twofold also has a bit of a tendency to skip time a lot. Two days, Two weeks, A couple of days, etc. The game skips a lot of days that could be used to introduce some of the heavier topics in a more natural, slow pace. You'll spend a lot of time with romance, Olive's college troubles and small issues, but suddenly the game introduces a new set of characters and conflicts before resolving itself somewhat abruptly. It's not instant, but if there's lets say, 30 chapters, then the main conflict is fully introduced on the 20th and is resolved on the 28th. A small issue, but I did not enjoy Twofold's soundtrack as much as I wish I did. A lot of the tracks feel repetitive. Basslines and casual songs are fine, but they sound very similar to each other and don't leave much room for tracks that set a different tone. Perfect Circle, however, does offer a much better soundtrack that I would listen to any time. All in all, Twofold was still a very fun read. It's not super long, only taking me twelve hours to beat the two main routes and Perfect Circle, but in that time the game still managed to land some really nice moments that made me tear up and feel happy that I played the game. It was fun and I enjoyed my time, but I wish that the game explored the relationship between Caprice and Millie more since they are what the conflict revolves around. Olive also might not be the main focus of the game, but they are a lovely protagonist that you grow more and more fond of as the game progresses. Regardless, I feel like the game could use more of its time to let you see more of the beautiful dialogue and characters, while building up more to its emotional conclusion. Especially after Perfect Circle, and epilogue that feels like it's on an entire different level than the base game. I fully recommend the game and I appreciate the insane effort and love put into making it. Also, if you are interested in twofold or have played it, do check out first snow! It's set in the TwoFold universe and looks super nice. Thank you!!
I wish I could erase my memory just to enjoy it all over again. The voice acting, storyline, and character design is truly unmatched.
Another well done Yuri VN from Studio Elan. I do recommend it, however you should play First Snow before playing this. First Snow is a free prequel set about a year before the events of Two Fold. The writing in Two Fold is excellent. The art is superb. The voice acting from everyone is well done. The story has moments of levity & joy and some deeply saddening elements that WILL make you cry. You get to see two different girls & an NB kiss and it is great. Both romance story lines are good but I related more to Millie and the writing club story line just a bit more. Getting it 100% done took me about 13 hours. Definitely worth picking up if anything like that sounds up your alley.
