IMPETUM is a first-person psychological horror game from TrueGames, which also serves as its publisher. Built around a mystery involving a missing family and a protagonist struggling to understand the truth, the game presents itself as an intimate and unsettling journey through grief, fear, and distorted memories. Rather than focusing on constant action or survival mechanics, IMPETUM places its emphasis on storytelling and atmosphere, inviting players to uncover the circumstances behind a seemingly ordinary home that has become the center of an inexplicable nightmare. Its premise is simple but effective: after returning from a lengthy work trip, the main character finds his wife and son gone without explanation, setting in motion a tense investigation that steadily blurs the line between reality and illusion. From the opening moments, the game establishes a heavy sense of unease. The environments are detailed enough to feel believable while remaining oppressive and unfamiliar, and the use of lighting plays a major role in maintaining tension. Hallways appear longer than they should, familiar spaces become increasingly distorted, and every creak or distant sound suggests that something is watching from beyond the player's field of view. IMPETUM demonstrates a clear understanding of psychological horror, favoring anticipation over spectacle. It doesn't attempt to overwhelm players with nonstop scares; instead, it slowly builds discomfort through careful pacing and environmental storytelling. The result is an experience that remains consistently unsettling throughout its runtime. The narrative is where IMPETUM shows the greatest ambition. Players are tasked with piecing together clues left behind in the house while navigating increasingly surreal events. The game incorporates detective-like elements, encouraging exploration and observation rather than hand-holding. Notes, environmental details, and scripted sequences gradually reveal more about the protagonist's life and the mysterious disappearance at the center of the plot. The supernatural themes are intentionally ambiguous, leaving players to question whether they are witnessing paranormal events or the manifestations of a troubled mind. This uncertainty becomes one of the game's greatest strengths, adding depth to a story that might otherwise have felt conventional. Gameplay remains relatively straightforward, consisting primarily of exploration, interacting with objects, and progressing through narrative-driven sequences. There are occasional puzzle elements that help break up the pacing, although some of these can be less intuitive than intended. Players looking for complex systems or significant mechanical depth may find the experience somewhat limited, as IMPETUM is clearly designed as a story-first title. Nevertheless, the minimalist approach allows the atmosphere and narrative to remain at the forefront. Its linear structure ensures that the story unfolds at a deliberate pace, making it particularly appealing to fans of indie horror experiences that prioritize immersion over challenge. Visually, the game benefits from its use of modern technology, delivering realistic environments that often exceed expectations for a small independent production. Shadows, reflections, and subtle environmental effects contribute significantly to the overall presentation. The sound design deserves equal praise, as it consistently amplifies the tension. Quiet moments are often the most effective, forcing players to pay attention to every noise and anticipate what might happen next. While there are occasional technical imperfections, including minor animation issues and interactions that can feel slightly awkward, these shortcomings rarely undermine the overall experience. Instead, they serve as reminders of the game's independent origins rather than major obstacles. IMPETUM also deserves recognition for attempting to tell a more personal story beneath its horror elements. Themes of family, loss, guilt, and psychological deterioration are woven throughout the experience, giving emotional context to the unsettling events taking place. The mature content, including depictions of violence and disturbing imagery, feels appropriate within the narrative rather than inserted solely for shock value. By the conclusion, players are left with enough questions to reflect upon while still receiving a satisfying sense of closure. That balance between explanation and ambiguity is difficult to achieve, yet IMPETUM handles it reasonably well. In the end, IMPETUM is a commendable indie horror title that succeeds through atmosphere, mystery, and a genuine commitment to psychological storytelling. It may not offer groundbreaking gameplay or the polish of larger productions, but it understands what makes horror effective: uncertainty, tension, and emotional investment. TrueGames has delivered an experience that will resonate most with players who enjoy narrative-focused adventures and don't mind a slower pace. While it occasionally stumbles in execution, its strengths ultimately outweigh its flaws, making it a worthwhile addition to the growing library of independent psychological horror games.
I really REALLY want to like this. It looks really good. i like the idea. i only got 30 minutes in. and the reason why is because of the limitations. its not optimized well, most of the graphic and resolution options are pretty bad if you have more than one monitor. its still playable though. my biggest problem was there wasn't really much guidance, and pathways were blocked. in the store i couldn't go anywhere. unless it might have been glitched im not sure. but i just couldnt play it more than that out of frustration. BUT the game DOES look promising, and i hope it does get some updates and does well, and i would love to try again sometime for sure.

Not a bad horror game. Good graphics, interesting story. My review is 7/10.
游戏挺好玩,非常刺激,氛围不错,好玩!
Friend bought me the game so I had to finish it. I can confidently say that it is the worst game I have ever played to completion. The game tells you absolutely nothing about anything and half the vibes of the game die because you run around aimlessly trying to click things. The game could have creepy vibes but all the tension dies because of jank.
Although I liked the games story, and the atmosphere, the gameplay was a bit frazzling. You shouldnt have to press the escape key unless you want to go to the main screen. The interaction was awful. It should only take 1 click to pick up an item. Also, The AI voices were without feeling and lacked any human traits. I would have gladly done the voice acting for free. I suppose its worth a few dollars, but I need more feeling, more fear. Keep working on these kinds of games, we are still in the beginning of horror gaming. Cheers
