0 choices and roleplaying amounts to dialogue personality like fallout 4 but slightly different kind neutral ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ - the combat is horrid, trash packs after trash packs, never seen so many mobs in a CRPG real time with pause so you either have a party you can turn you brain off with for most encounters like a bunch of fighters or a well scripted balanced one - if not you will hate micro managing 6 characters at once like ur playing an RTS mission with limited units otherwise you're stuck ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ kiting in an isometric rpg like it's league, because your squishy guys will stand still and get hit - it forces you to pause constantly so you make ur casters cast unless u script them to do so, so even easy fodder packs can be annoying because your squishy ones will get targeted while u have to either deal with ♥♥♥♥♥♥ pathing while running away whether you control them or not - and every time you click to move it stops theirs movement for half a sec this makes it so you end up spending more time on easy fights than you would even in a turn based game because if you let the AI do whatever they're gonna end up unnecessarily damaged after a fight and healing isn't free as u get ambushed unless u wanna backtrack with the slow ass movement back to town if u don't have someone who can cast haste or an area with low lvl ambushers there is literally nothing good to say about the combat when comparing it to turn based CRPGs and I hate turn based combat as someone who prefers first person action combat at least the dungeons have interesting layouts that you can use to your advantage, or disadvantage if u don't take the clue, like a skinny bridge causing a choke point while you get pelted with arrows but it's actually not all that engaging because you're basically forced to use it against the mobs every fight, it feels like playing a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mmo with the amount of careful pulling and running you have to do because every room is setup against you with too many mobs and they aggro be line of sight so a mob can get angry at you but his friend 2 steps away won't so it actually just makes the game even more tedious oh and if you wanted another reason to hate the combat even more: no spell ground markers, so if you want to cast a fireball you better know how large that aoe is already by practicing it.. It makes the already awful wizard experience with few scrolls about even worse especially if u run more than 1 caster who needs to scribe scrolls forgot to mention exploration/linearity, this game is extremely linear it's just chapters and their respective zones back to back being sent to beat up the boss of that area no side zones that aren't connected to the story like the pathfinder CRPGs, so the entire game is like: main quest giver: there's great evil afoot at X place, pls go there! which u then proceed to CRAWL through the most unfun trap filled and monster infested dungeons ever concocted, better have a rogue in your party or your barbarian will get charmed by a trap that doesn't get consumed after it springs while your caster with dispel magic is stuck in essentially a hold person spell from another trap also stepping on the traps doesn't create a box to show you where they are like in other CRPGs, you only get that privilege by the find traps skill via spell or a class with it.. ♥♥♥♥ doesn't even make sense how OP your party is either, at super low levels they just make swiss cheese of yeti hordes like they're goblins - hell even the goblins are weirdly weak, and I can't tell if it's just a 2nd edition thing or a game thing, I'm leading towards a game thing because my barbarian was basically an unkillable god on core rules difficulty to these goblins and orcs that really should be hitting more if your party wasn't so op it would take them god knows how long to get through the dungeons
great game consistent with dnd rules (you can be as complex as you want); long campaign with many dungeons that made sense; very satiflying.
Maintenant, direction Heart of Winter !
great game. just as good a bg1, and almost as good as bg2. I've played it multiple times and I'm revisiting right now.
□ Unplayable □ Terrible □ Rough □ Flawed □ Passable □ Solid □ Good ■ Impressive □ Amazing □ Legendary
This is a fun game that keeps you coming back year after year.
A classic. Requires some time to comprehend, but has both a good story and a deep combat system.
这游戏就是轻叙事重战斗还tm爱堆怪的博德之门2
Takes a good and relatively simple linear story, great voice actors, solid soundtrack, and the classic style of Baldurs Gate enhanced tweaks and creates an enjoyable D&D game that you can come back to even if you played the original all those years ago. I wish they would have added more eye candy, particularly effects that might benefit from ray tracing garnish. Given that high FPS aren't necessary with this style of game the performance loss wouldn't mean much.
A Timeless Classic Still Thrills
I’ve played every major RPG that shipped on PC in the last decade, but none have captured the same raw, turn‑based excitement of Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition quite like the original did. This version keeps everything that made the 1998 classic a legend—strategic combat, deep character builds, and a hauntingly beautiful world—while polishing up some technical snags that kept me from fully enjoying it back then.
Visuals & Sound
The art style is faithfully preserved: clean 2‑D sprites with crisp borders that look just as good on a 1080p screen as they did on my old CRT. The soundtrack, featuring Bobby McFerrin’s iconic “A Day in the Life,” remains hauntingly atmospheric, and the sound effects are now clearer thanks to updated audio drivers.
Gameplay
Turn‑based combat still feels tense and rewarding. Each decision matters; a misstep can bring your whole party down. The new UI makes character sheets easier to read, and the “Party View” feature helps keep track of status effects without scrolling through menus. Minor tweaks to AI timing make battles feel snappier while preserving the strategic depth that made the original so addictive.
Party Building
The Enhanced Edition expands the roster of classes and subclasses, giving you more flexibility in building your dream party. I enjoyed experimenting with a Wizard‑Rogue‑Cleric combo and adding a Bard for morale boosts—something I couldn’t do back in 1998! The balance is still tight; overpowered builds are rare, which keeps the challenge alive.
Replayability
Randomly generated dungeons mean no two playthroughs feel identical. Even after dozens of runs, you’re still discovering new layouts and monsters. The Steam Workshop support also lets you add custom content, keeping the game fresh for newer players.
Bottom Line
If you grew up on PC RPGs or simply love a well‑crafted turn‑based adventure, Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition is a must‑play. It respects its roots while providing enough polish to run smoothly on modern systems. Grab it today and relive the thrill of navigating Frostbite’s unforgiving tundra—your party will thank you.
