Fun game that will take you a while to complete. However this game has the same issue as Conan Exiles. The developers ignore the buggy/glitchy gameplay so they can release more DLC for you to buy. Its fun, but be ready to get pissed off when you get stuck on a tree for the 30-40th. The animal pathing is pretty bad as well, animals you are trying to tame will get stuck on the trees, rocks, other animals, etc. I will eventually get so tired of the bugs I will quit playing just like Conan Exiles. If the bugs were fixed I would probably stick around and buy the DLCs, but that will not ever happen until these bugs are fixed. Some DLCs cost as much as a new game, not really worth it.
I'm a gamedev myself, and that's the only review you need
Idea/Highlights 5/10

- A mix of genres. You have a survival part where you must build your base, a quest part where you can use your tools/weapons to have fun and get potentially strong boosts, and an "RPG" part where you must level up and farm to get more skills/meta progression-boosting gear It is not very unique, just a somewhat generic survival game
Gameplay 3/10

It's very slow In the first 20 hours, you mostly grind levels and lots of items to progress through your tech tree and acquire stronger weapons The whole resource-gathering process is quite enjoyable. Its visuals are good, and its systems, from mining to farming and animal taming, have strong potential But as you progress, you realize that the gameplay is far less in-depth than it first seems. And it sums up to just a grindy game with lots of unfinished mechanics
Replayability 4/10

The biggest problem is unfinished mechanics. For instance, you have automatic drills to help you gather resources. They can mine automatically, but to collect them, you must get to the drill. There is no way to transport resources Taming animals? You can probably them to improve their genes and use them for meat, since it is a survival game. But not all animals for some reason. Also, the animal stat system itself is not worth the hassle, nor is meat. At least in the early to mid-game There are many things like that where you wish they were more detailed Much of the content feels artificially prolonged. For instance, expensive machines (where you need to grind for a while), quests that require a ton of resources, and so on. It would be cooler to have faster, less grindy gameplay But you can play for hundreds of hours potentially, especially if you are a completionist with all DLC.
Overall rating 12/30 (3/10)

It's just a regular survival game with plenty of mechanics, but not enough polish. It can be good for players who enjoy grindy survival games with friends. For others, I would recommend choosing other games instead Overall, I cannot recommend it. It's not terrible, but grindy and when you're done grinding, you feel no payoff at all
Extra

Follow my curator page, Dev inspiration, for more reviews from a developer's perspective.

Icarus is a challenging survival game where you explore a dangerous world, gather resources, build your base, and fight against harsh weather, wildlife, and environmental dangers. The crafting and progression systems are enjoyable, and surviving storms while completing missions feels rewarding. Playing with friends makes the experience even better. It can become repetitive over time, but fans of survival games will definitely find a lot to enjoy 9/10
