Refunding since this game has always online DRM and doesn't specify it anywhere on the store page. Scummy tactics like this should not be allowed on Steam.
Dev has been upgrading this, and taking in a lot of feedback from the community. I'll update my review later on, but I wholeheartedly recommend this. An ok space shooter, I wouldn't call it a "spacesim", though. (Read bellow) On the plus side, you got tight controls, amazing space battles and good sound and voice acting. Also de skirmish mode (that supports LAN multiplayer) gives this game another half point (would be a full point if it had online multiplayer). On the down side, you can only pilot one ship (even in skirmish mode, which means players can only play one side out of three), graphics are Ok but not terrific (explosions are great though), and it feels a little underpolished. Your space fighter "feels" more like a plane than a spacecraft, it moves all the time forward and it only has 3 speeds, slow, normal and boost. Another down for me is that you don't control the roll, just the pitch, so your fighter will go back to a "horizontal" position, sometimes messing your sense of direction (no biggie, you get used to it fast). All in all the game is fast and fun to play (arcadey), the campaign is Ok but kinda short. I'd really advice to play with a controller. If you are looking for a spaceSIM though, look elsewere. I appreciate this being released for Linux (I'd advice the developer to lower the price a little bit, but it appears updates are comming so the game could change for better)
Fast paced space shooter, easy to get into and plenty of fun to be had. Targeting is similar to freelancer too which is never a bad thing. Full audio v/o in missions. Campaign and instant battle modes too. Great Stuff 9\10
I play pretty much every space game there is, and this one is fantastic.
Word soup. Don't want it? There's more reviews. I wasn't really planning to review the game this early without an impression of the entire campaign, but I figured by mission 4 I've seen enough to say all that's necessary. If anything stands out later, I'll post it here. I may produce a basic gameplay guide (as that is a bit lacking, although to be fair, the game is quite self explanatory) and a suggestions/questions thread for the forum. For now, the review. I don't really like the recommendation system because what I recommend a game depends greatly on the person I'm recommending it to, and what they want - and that is completely different for different folks. Yes, yes, I'm getting to the point. This review is in blue because I don't feel the money was a waste, although I could see why people would want something more for $12. On its own merits it is a fairly simple game with, as mentioned in other reviews, arcade like mechanics that dispel any claim of being an actual simulator. Still, that's a valid way to design, and the game does well for what it's designed to be. Don't aspire for much. However, if clean gameplay, well achieved large scale space battles (perhaps not so much variety) and quite solid performance for even a potato machine is appealing, you've come to the right place. The closest comparison I can make is that this game represents a take on the spacefaring angle of Star Wars Battlefront 2, the old version. The tech is basically at the same level, and the gameplay is strikingly similar to me. What will disappoint is, - diversity of your own ship (there's one, and then you're done) - diversity in enemies - any expectation of mindblowing graphics - depth of gameplay Game runs well on Windows 7, but good luck if you want to make recordings. The game is designed for controllers, but with some practice and perhaps a few shifted hotkeys, the keyboard works perfectly well. A few boons for the game include, - Simple + well executed gameplay - A simple, but solid plot - No glaring issues with the premise (though you may be somewhat disappointed at the raw capabilities of these spaceships) - Solid voice acting. I won't accuse it of perfection, but it is well done for an indie production. - Easy to pick up and play - Makes you feel good when you want to play easy mode and making you feel like ♥♥♥♥ when you tempt the top difficulty, and plenty of offerings in between - in other words, the difficulties are solid - Ridiculously communicative developer. He's a human being and he's in the forum. They just don't make that stock anymore in AAA >.> - Paired with the above as of my return in July 2019, he's still there and he will reply if you post something. All in all, I would say if you have the money and want to pick up something small with a tiny, but decent community and decent gameplay, go for it. If you're looking for strong bang for your buck, revolutionary concepts, a unique twist or a bug free and polished game (bear in mind, this is a recent release and more updates are in the works), I'd advise you either come back later or move on.
This is a nice little space combat game with decent steam integration of achievements and multiplayer. First off - Lets be clear here. Think of this game in terms of a casual game, something to jump into if you feel like a quick space battle. Don't have Elite or Star Citizen like expectations here and you will enjoy this game immensely. Moving on - It reminds me a little of the obscure asian space combat game "take back" with a little "tie fighter" and "wing commander/privateer" flavour thrown in for good measure. It doesn't have much in the way of micro-management, you do get to spend your dogfighting points/score from each completed mission on upgrades for your fighter which was a really nice touch - Or you can also go back and replay completed missions if you want to try them at a different difficulty setting - or just dominate the enemy with your upgraded fighter. There is also a galaxy map, but it is there more as a load screen; its static, so dont be expecting to go on sandbox style galactic trade or mercenary adventures just yet but perhaps it is there to inspire the author to add something like that later, who knows. The main campaign is a little short, but since you can go back and replay to get more points or challenge yourself at a higher difficulty level; or design your own custom mission for solo or multiplayer gameplay; there is some nice casual replay value here if you feel like blowing stuff up without spending 6 months building up a ship like in Elite or Eve Online :) All in all, the game is still being developed, and the author is very approachable on his steam forums page for any feedback, suggestions or bug reports. New features may well be added later. Given the quality of what is already there, I expect the author is fully capable of expanding the game in any direction he feels inspired to follow. There is a lot of potential here. Will definately play again... and again. For those into the whole pros and cons thing - Pros: It supports Keyboard, mouse or game controller with remappable controls. Easy to get into, has simple controls and a tutorial mission to get you started. It also has good steam integration; supporting both steam achievements, and multiplayer too. Runs on older/low end hardware too. So you could blow up spaceships at work at the end of a stressful day on the accounts department PC. (or better yet blow up spaceships with co-workers in multiplayer) Has a global leaderboard :o) who doesnt love bragging rights. Cons: Limited on rails storyline. (although I expect a branching storyline based on mission sucess/failure wouldnt be difficult to add) Static universe - no trading or exploring here (although it appears to have a space map that puts that into mind and may be a future feature.) Given the short campaign, some people might not be able to look beyond the price($16.95AUD)
This is a fun game.. In a lot of ways it reminds me of Freespace, not fully, but in a lot of ways. The Joystick controls work great, there is no HOTAS support though, but there are not that many buttons anyways, so you can just use a Joystick only and bind everything to the joystick. The flight model reminds me a lot of the Freespace flight model, which makes for some cool space combat action and maneuvers. The voice acting is great, espesially for being an indie game. There is some realism to it, like it feels like radio chatter, not clean but realistic, I really can't explain it very well, but the audio is fantastic. The explosions in this game are very satisfying, and you will see a lot of explosions, but on fighter ships and the carriers/frigate/battleship type ships. The lighting is really good, you'll see the lighting take effect on your cockpit, really brings the immersion of the game. The missions are really fun and every mission is different. Plus the game is challenging. Play this if you are wanting a fun cockpit space combat game. It is worth the $12.00 Oh, and those windshield wipers... best addition to a space game ever =D I have finished the game today, and it was fantastic, it was a great ride and a whole lot of fun.
This game is in the style of the Old T-Fighter and X-Wing star Wars Games ! This is my king of game ! LOVE IT !
Bought on release back in 2018, instantly refunded because of the 60fps lock. Got it again for dirt cheap in 2020, well too bad it's still locked to 60fps... For that alone i do not recommend this game, even if it's a nice game i will not play it with this garbage framerate lock.
dev has removed always online DRM, he's awesome
