gear i am sorry but your game is not good, at least compared to other neps If you see CFW Trick then hit the skip button IMMEDIATELY, thank me later
Fun game, with a lovable cast of characters. But dear Lord is it NOT designed for keyboard play.
At the time of this review I have completed the Planeptune City ending and the Conquest ending. The game is more of the same really except the main line-up are the CPU candidates that you can unlock in Rebirth 1 and the normal party members. The CPUs need to be unlocked by reaching 50% shares (every single NG+ cycle which ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks) and the Oracles (who were DLC characters for Rebirth 1) have plans available at 75% shares of their respective City. The difficulty spikes don't seem as noticeable this time around, at least to me, but I really miss playing with the CPUs. The Conquest ending is really weird though, tonally it feels out of place with the rest of the game and characters seem to act out of character in this ending. I suggest playing a city ending first (which gets you the achievement for both a normal ending and a city ending) and then getting the conquest ending out of the way. I dismissed people saying to fast forward through it and I regret it, not because I'm so soft as to be traumatised by the ending but because the ending is a bastardisation of what makes a Neptunia game what it is and the characters deserve better. If you enjoyed Rebirth 1 then I strongly suggest getting this although there is no continuity between the two games, Rebirth 2 seems to disregard 1's story so if you haven't played 1 then you can still jump in on this entry and have lots of fun.

As an American video gamer, it was always interesting to see what other cultures of gamers considered good video game design and philosophy. I hate to say it, but the standard JRPG and its formula make for some of the worst RPGs possible. Regardless of whether its story is good or not, you generally have to spend so much of your playtime grinding for XP and items and re-exploring copy-pasted dungeons that have little to no variation between them. One thing I do love about Japanese video game studios is how quirky they are, though. While JRPGs tend to be very grindy and repetitive, you can count on the Japanese to try and make up for that tedium with silly naming conventions where characters or elements of the world itself are named after computer hardware in the case of this video game's self-referential humor on the industry. You can always expect a humorous and sometimes emotional journey, and for the games to have cute anime style female characters whose personality traits are varied and dialed up to an eleven in exaggeration. There's always that heavy focus on fanservice and suggestive content that wrinkles the ugly pantsuits of heavyset American women and their male lapdogs, and if this were remade just ten years later with Sony having lost its identity, the female characters would not have any skin showing whatsoever. But I digress, that's about the only real positive to this particular video game. Neptunia is apparently a rather large franchise, spanning numerous titles that you have to research online what the proper chronological ordering is because, as per Japan, they don't like to keep their titles simple to parse, and so I don't know if there are better Neptunia video games to play instead as I am still slowly stumbling my way through them. The second game does improve upon some of the systems of the first game, but I think the first game is overall a better entry. The game struggles to properly identify gamepads or input devices, for one thing. It's very clearly designed to be played with a controller, ported to the PC after being remade from an original PS3 video game, but my Xbox Elite controller was not detected by the game. This is simply unacceptable for a year 2015 game. It's not like this is 1995 where it could be expected, and this is the first indication of the game being a terrible PC port, which is doubly weird when the video game characters take influence from PC hardware in how they are named. Instead, I had to try and tolerate the video game with its counter-intuitive key bindings for mouse and keyboard. I don't know what it is about Japanese game developers but I wonder if they actually ever use a keyboard, because having the jump function on the right mouse button, the "search" function on space bar, and the preemptive attack button on 'K' is a bit weird and anybody with any experience in gaming on a keyboard and mouse knows that these actions do not belong where it is mapped by default, and so you have to spend extra time trying to discern what buttons to change in the settings menu (called "config" in Japanese games) because even in this menu, it lists everything as a button on a controller. When controllers don't reliably work for this game and so you don't really know what button is assigned to what command. There was also an issue where my changes to the settings menu would reset every time I'd quit the game, and so I'd enter into my next session nearly deafened by how loud the main menu music is. Historically, these games also do not have auto-saving so you must remember to save often as well. Within dungeons, manual saving is disabled outside of specific interact spots located deep within the dungeon, creating plenty of opportunity for a party wipe and having to restart from the beginning to trek through monsters that respawn within minutes of defeating them. This is just part of the 'charm' of a JRPG: your game can crash or something and you've lost two hours of progress because you thought it'd have the basic feature of video gaming that is auto-saving. Again, this is unacceptable and nobody today has the time to deal with video games that go backwards from modern technological advancements in the industry that existed since the early 2000s. Dungeons are the main exploration device of the game and where the game changes perspective to something 3D where you can walk around, and "dungeon" basically refers to a small-ish linear sized map more so than what is conveyed as imagery to the word where it's a dark and damp basement, although it quickly becomes as dull and empty as a stereotypical basement. You enter from point A, go to point B in what is usually a straight line, fight through a few monsters to collect items, XP, and perhaps level up your current party of adventurers, and then walk back to point A through monsters that have respawned to further make the grindy nature of the game a bit easier but still very tedious. You must walk backward through the map you just explored because the only exit that exists is also the entrance. It's basically like the dungeons/caves in an unmodded version of an Elder Scrolls video game. You'll explore these same dungeons many times as you accept new quests in the local town that are basically just "eliminate monster X times" and while you can actually craft 'plans' to modify these dungeons in a different way, it's not drastic enough to make it any less boring. Developers tried to resolve a common complaint with JRPG dungeons but just didn't do enough. Outside of having to do quests in these dungeons, the other aspect of the video game is more of a visual novel with many scenes occurring between characters in a static background as you click through buttons on a menu. It's a heavy keyboard game in the dungeons and a heavy mouse game in the world map which is how you travel around to enter into dungeons or towns. Some scenes are voice acted, where the English voice actors vary between tryhards who want more roles in the industry to people who can't be bothered and just want a quick paycheck. Assuming that you don't just instantly skip through everything, most scenes will require you knowing how to read the text, which I know will be challenging for most of gen Alpha and some of gen Z, although this game requires too much of an attention span for them, anyway. The story itself is pretty standard for a JRPG: some evil hot chick defeats the heroines and you get stronger to rematch and save the world. The biggest issue that I have is with having to replay the game over and over again to achieve the 'true ending,' as you also need to sit there and grind all of secondary systems and mechanics (friendships, influences, etc) to add to that completionism. At minimum, when following guides and using exploits, you have to beat it at least three times to obtain this ending. Otherwise, you're probably replaying the game like ten times in order to do it. This is one of those video games where, if you liked it enough to just get the first ending after about thirty hours or so, you probably just resort to a YouTube video to watch the others. The endings range from bleak and outright depressing to happy and the game does do well enough with emotional storytelling, but the cast of characters is way too large and it really messes with your ability to create team synergies. I like that it lacks those annoying random battles that used to be common in JRPGs and that combat is easily avoided if you are not there to fight, as you can simply just outrun the monsters in the dungeon. The hybrid turn-based combat is certainly an improvement to the genre where you can strategically move your units in a circular arena. The skills are flashy and animations are smooth and I like the soundtrack as well as the minigame with the Stella character. There's some good ideas here but it could not escape its JRPG roots and would be way better with WRPG design philosophy.

I really liked the first game a lot, the second game is no different HOWEVER anytime Rom or Ram talk I immediately get the urge to punt them like a football into orbit, its not that I hate the characters they are definitely in my top 5 favs but that doesn't change the fact that I want them out of earshot distance whenever they speak. 9/10 (Can't wait to get started on the third game.)
Всё-таки это Нептуния, и её формула работает. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3715228235 ______________________________________________ Бои были странные. ______________________________________________ Возможно, я когда-нибудь вернусь и пройду честно. Idea Factory, Compile Heart. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3715219008
