Well, I gave them the benefit of the doubt, and trusted they would keep to their word, delivering a final update in January to leave the game “as polished and complete” as they could, given the circumstances. See the Dec. 22 update, though, and that’s not happening. I was a Kickstarter backer for Hyper Light Drifter, and have supported Heart Machine from their beginning, all the way to now. And now I’m done. If they ever release another game, I won’t be participating in a Kickstarter, nor buying into their early access. And then, if it survives into a 1.0 release, I’ll see what reviews have to say about it before I throw down. Heart Machine have broken the faith. And I’ll be wary of this publisher, Arc, as well.
After a slew of publisher changes, layoffs, and ultimately leaving the game in an unfinished incomplete state I can't recommend this in good confidence. I hope it's returned to some day as I do consider the core game fun, and a large improvement from it's initial launch version, but it's uncertain if anything more will come.

Most early access games are in a better polished state than what this is. I would 100% recommend waiting for the full game release if you don't want to have to deal with run crashes and clipping every boot up.
i wanna see them make the game available for free if its a dead project anyway... 30 bucks wasted on unfinished content...
Edit: used to be recommended, but apparently, it is now in early access hell. Barely an hour into the game, and I'll be honest, it has issues. BUT this game is early access, and as someone who lightly enjoys Roguelite/likes, and who has never played Drifter, I want to put a word in! This game has a very interesting core concept, it feels a lot more like an RPG than I thought. It's reminiscent of Risk of Rain 2 and probably has some BOTW influence. I definitely want to add , this game is seemingly VERY EARLY ACCESS. I think the core gameplay loop and vibe they're going for is very interesting, and if they pull this off, it can be a really damn good game. But where there are pros in the game, there are so many cons holding them hostage. Such as... -Clunky terrain hitboxes -Strange camera choices and bugs (Gun camera locks to a certain height upon using it) -Odd combat feel (Slash-dashing has weird timing that I think would be better off being Shift > M1 instead of Shift+M1, for instance) -Unrewarding Parry mechanic (not really sure what it does except stun..) -Other odd unexplained mechanics (disregard if I just need to play more -Various other polish and optimization issues (This game is VERY laggy!) But a lot of these issues are just a result of early access. I think this game is worth investing into for the long run, assuming they really put in the work, I know this is the first game of this variety they're making. I really wanna know more about how the gun can be utilized best, attack patterns, what different holobytes or whatever do, and I wanna explore the world. I think, if you wanna see something cool and put a word in for it, you totally should buy this game. And if you wanna wait, that's fine too. This game, as cool as it seems, is still clunky. and I will wait a bit to play more, but until then I say buy it for the long run.
after the buried below update its feeling
