Abandonware! Not worth your time and money.
No longer being worked on. Dev's moved out of early access before finishing the game and abandoned it.
Bruh they abandoned this game....
Another one that was purchased to play with friends, and genuinely I was a bit skeptical. But to summarize my advice: go elsewhere. While this is a somewhat unique entry into the spawn of games everyone attributes to Deep Rock, it lacks content, quality, and the core gameplay is greatly flawed still. Let me first address what you are getting here. Three biomes, of which there are some unique mechanics and features to them, a handful of bosses and side objectives, some of which are elemental variants of one another, four classes, of which the roles and synergy can become clouded, and some assortments of weapons and armor for each. The core idea is like, again, Deep Rock, wherein you go into a mission type that is randomly generated with pre-defined objectives, except now you're mostly gunning for a boss. In this, the game is often compared to Monster Hunter. And after seven hours, even my friend was starting to feel a little fatigue. I primarily attribute this to the map size and generally how empty it is. There's a lot of climbing needed, and combing what can sometimes feel like a cubic half mile of map for a few rocks and a well-hidden side objective without a real sound track just really doesn't do it. Nor does it when the injured boss runs off, and books it to the other end of said map, which you already cleared, and now must trudge across, again, in silence, and without real events. Defense missions solve this, I suppose. But really, I need to address the quality. This is the first game in a long time to give me a headache. I don't mean that metaphorically or otherwise. I have sensitive hearing, I play with low volume, and most often my setup prevents noises which have the potential to be too loud from getting there. Except when it's incredibly loud repeatedly. I don't believe anyone in the office heard the wolves and/or multi-projectile attacks and thought: "Yes, this is fine." Projectiles each have their own audio, it seems, as when shotgun attacks spawn it is unbelievably loud, and usually with short-loops of crackling audio. Wolves are just plainly way too loud, and are a common enemy in the snow biome, and you will fight hundreds on high difficulties. My friend even agreed that not only was it annoying, but hurting his head, too. So when you're stuck on a map with terrible terrain, chasing a monster which bolts off at breakneck speed, getting harassed by ear-splitting wolves, it's not exactly a good vibe that makes you want to keep playing. And also, it has to be mentioned- visual design is very basic and chaotically mismatched. If you ever look at a player model, it doesn't seem to belong in this world. The 2-D art is also strangely disconnected. Look, I've done my own indie work, not on a game, and I know how sourcing and contracting artists goes. I don't quite know why this happened, but I'm not the only one to pick up on it, and it is jarring, and just does not give people confidence. And with everything else being basic and "stylized", I can see why many, for their own reasons, have brought this forward as a point of contention with other topics. I will not go as far as those who throw forwards accusations, and stay myself at this point alone, where it shows me that there was little care for the cohesion of the assets being assembled, and how the work presented itself. In essence, it does feel that there was a spark of dedication to work quality. For core gameplay, I have aired some unavoidable grievances already. Large, empty maps, no real sound track, and that classes are somewhat unimportant or step on one another's toes. The maps, really, don't have much more to them than that, and do expect it to feel quite hollow as you bounce around. For classes, I will say this, between me and my friend, we played all four. But, we settled on Shaman/Blacksmith. This was because, despite my best efforts, the healer could quite easily do more damage than the dedicated DPS, the Berserker. Between dealing with armor, mass zoning attacks, or otherwise, it took me great efforts to keep up with him- focusing weakspots and using dive attacks at every opportunity. When he healed and could just keep using his scythe, which had great range, to constantly poke at exposed bits and deal mass damage. Also, yes, he could still heal. So I went Blacksmith, as breaking monster bits meta-games and drops more loot, and lets the healer do more damage, as there's less armor and more weakspots. But what did we lose? Nothing. The "senses" or track modes are mostly worthless. We barely found a use for them, as even to find monster you could use the surplus of bones and just follow the pig. Or, chances were, one player could be high enough up and see what corner of the map it slithered off to. Even the "ultimate" ability each class has is the same. With such a limited tool set, only one or two things sets them apart, beyond just what weapons they have, and it's up to question if these one or two things have any use. Again, compare it to alternative sister-games, and there's never going to be a mode or time where you're thinking about having wished you were another class, or that you had one in your party. It's negligible beyond healing. But is slapping the big thing fun? The core, simple concept of the game. Not really. Some boss attacks are far too fast, or are simply best avoided all together by retreating, and some modifiers make you get one or two shot. What we found to be best is to lure a monster near a wall and just use the wall, as wall jumps had further range than dodges and were far more reliable for avoiding attacks, most of which the monsters cannot aim upwards. So, yeah, we spent a good bit of time on top of a cliff watching the monster attack, jumping down and blowing everything, then repeating. Or, in some cases, you can just circle it and the AI breaks entirely. The Blacksmith's ability to stun on demand also makes abusing terrain and boss AI easier, since if the monster wants to use a troublesome attack, well, it can't. But this isn't engaging. Doing Tony Hawk wall stunts off onto a monster 20 times in a row loses its charm, fast. And nothing else drew either one of us in. This could be a decent product, but at the rate at which it has been updated, along with what #16 brought in as a "large update", it feels to me now that it would be far too long to expect support for it to get where it could be. Read other reviews, they will share some sympathies, and whilst they may be harsh, I do feel them to have justification, most of the time. Unfortunately, I'd recommend another title, both if you're looking for multiplayer, or any aspect of monster hunting and co-op. Deep Rock, Riftbreaker, or hell, just go back and play through Morrowind again, why not?
this is like deep rock if it didn't have a budget
So initially thought "Wow a Monster Hunter game with a bit of DRG like biomes could be cool to try out" & gave it a fair shake, however with the core gameplay loop being what you'd generally expect from a game like DRG ofc.......I can't personally recommend this. Also with having seen this game being left as abandonware, I more so cannot even suggest this game in good faith so off to the junkpile it gets thrown into here. Additional note but if WYLDERZONE wants to push promises & end up taking the money and running off, they're officially going on the list of devs to not wholeheartedly support for the future.
