Lots of game options - super fun for fans of historical strategy games!
Got it for free on epic many years ago, always enjoyed. It would come back to it about once a year, decided to splurge on the DLC decent team if you’re into genre, definitely prefer this over civilization
Game crashes randomly otherwise runs fast. Works on Linux first start, afterwards it crashes immediately on launch or after the Sega logo. Windows users have a lot of problems as well it's not just Linux.
I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. I had many similarities to others live Civilization, but significant enough differences to make it unique.
In general, it is not a bad 4X game, certainly not when going by its aesthetics, but apparently it has not been the revolution that everyone was so hyped about back then. The core of the game feels like yet another iteration of the original Endless formula while using the most basic Civilization-typical aspects to start out as a possible competitor and go from there. But many aspects feel undercooked. Seemingly important ones like research feel like an afterthought or barebones at best. I also can't remember having seen such a bad implementation of wonders, natural or buildable ones, in any 4X game to date. Many mechanics feel like they are not supposed to mesh well or feel interesting. Religion. Fame. Diplomacy. You name it. Especially the latter I found irritating, considering that the culture and leader systems feel hyper-modularized. The era mechanics could have been enhanced if they had let the player configure more parameters at game setup. Like how many stars, in which era, and individual costs of technology, etc. Overall, there seem to be very many mechanics but very little interaction aside from exploration and combat and nagging narrative “choicy” events. Combat itself feels like in any Endless game derivative, partially a bit uninspired with little combat depth aside from positioning, and very tedious. You could do the same thing with one-turn auto-resolve. Alas, the auto-combat is unreliable as the game does not really quantify combat power well. Overall, it took a shot in the dark, probably had lofty ambitions, and if there were more interactivity and less of the floaty Endless gameplay, it would most likely have a lot of personality, which would contribute to its replayability. I strongly suggest getting this game on a strong discount (>75%) only.
The word is "mankind."
Pretty good The combat and troop movement is the best and most streamlined out of any 4x game I know of and being able to add new bonuses and choose a different focus each era is awesome. I also like the way cities are built with districts because it makes you think about its layout for the future while also naturally scaling the size with your settlement's production. That being said managing your empire in the later stages of the game can be quite tedious as planning and placing districts is meticulous work which scales exponentially as your empire grows. I wish there was a way to quickly make blueprints for your domain and queue districts placed next to districts ahead in the queue to expedite the process (currently, in the production queue of the city, you can only place districts adjacent to already built districts). Another thing that bugs me a little is that fighting wars early on leaves the loosing side destitute with maybe one or two remaining cities while handing the winner a golden ticket to the next era. Small grievances can quickly escalate into kingdom-wiping conflicts and coming out on top is a fast way to earn a lot of fame (victory points). It's worth to wipe out your competition but it also makes it quite simple when you have an advantage over another player since wars have practically no cost for the winner as initiating one is free aside from war support which is easy enough to acquire. It can certainly be fun to play as a warmonger but I would personally appreciate more strategic diplomacy where the cost of initiating wars was more in line with the payout of winning one. Lastly some aspects like the technology tree and the way wonders work seem kinda undercooked but that really didn't bug me that much. Overall, the downsides of a tedious endgame and barebones diplomacy are shared with most games of the genre and the combat and unique city building more than make up for it if that's the kinda of thing you like. Definitely worth taking a look at if you enjoy 4x games like Civilization and easy enough to get into even if you have no prior experience with similar titles.
worse civ game just go buy one civ 4 or 5 even 7 is better that this game and its the worst one in the series (because they copied this game)
what a beauty.
Decent game. Worth it's price. MUCH better than CIV 6 & 7. Hard to compare to Civ 5 since both game have different mechanics.
