HROT is a single-player retro FPS set in a small socialist country neighboring Soviet Union (Czechoslovakia) after an unspecified disaster in 1986. Those times were dark and terrifying and so is the game.

Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Amazing!!
Wish I could leave a mixed review. I've tried to play this game 3 times but always get bored in episode 2. Atmosphere is good but I dislike every single weapon due to them all sounding and feeling weak. None of the difficulties are enjoyable as the game has a very simplistic approach of increasing of enemy health and damage as difficulty rises and nothing else. So while normal feels too easy, hard just has all the enemies take significantly more ammo to put down - which exacerbates the issue of the weapons already feeling like water guns. Also it has genuinely the worst double barrel / super shotgun I have ever seen in a boomer shooter. That's a sin.

The game is very fun, Its very close to quake and doom, the guns punch hard and kills are satisfying, its weird if every good way it can be
Good game but low framerates and bad input lag when playing through proton on Linux. No fix in sight.
HROT is like playing a forgotten Quake game from an alternate timeline where the Soviet era never ended. The atmosphere is incredible, with its gloomy Czechoslovak setting, weird humor, and oppressive industrial environments giving the game a really unique identity. The shooting feels great, the levels are fun to explore, and finding secrets is always rewarding. It may look a bit too brown and repetitive at times, but that only adds to its strange charm. A very solid retro FPS and a must-play if you enjoy old-school shooters with a strong personality.
Have you ever wanted to play more CHASM: The Rift? Have you ever wanted to play more DUSK? Have you ever wanted Dave Oshry to signal boost a game as SlavDusk? This game then, might just be for you. Though HROT, in my opinion, is one of those game that doesn't ride the ideas of what came before it, it blends them and expands upon them. For instance, you get grenades in the game and you'd think 'oh I have to swap to them'! Well you don't! Any weapon you pick up you can just hit the right click button and throw a grenade anyway. If you want to be more precise about it, you can swap to the actual grenade. There's so much interactivity and building within the world, too. 1986 in the Czech Republic has never looked this brown (stylistic choice) but so detailed. I will tell you right now for all of those who maybe want a plot (in a 'boomer shooter'?) that there isn't any, really. And, personally, I think that's part of the fun. HROT isn't really here to tell a story, it's here to show off Communist-Era Czech culture, expand upon ideas from CHASM, Quake, some elements of Serious Sam, even, and have fun. You can literally drink wine in this game to restore health or use it as a molotov cocktail. There's a gasmask horse! Clement Gottwald! I played all the way through on normal and found RECIPES FOR COOKING! Seriously. For those of you who dig an older aesthetic, history, or, hell, are just looking for a good time? It's HROT. Kudos to the developers for their hard work and grit for making such a wonderful game.
