Take the classic turn based, dungeon crawling mechanics of games like Wizardry or Legend of Grimrock (complete with magic and random loot), then dress it up like the original Resident Evil for PS1. You play a member of a special forces unit trapped in a mansion overrun with zombies and other monsters, trying to reunite with her teammates and escape. Along the way, you'll find weapons, armor, and wacky items ranging from healing herbs to Blair Witch-style stick figures that hex creatures when thrown. Pile on roguelite elements and randomized maps and this one has some staying power.

Imagine Resident Evil, but a weird niche JRPG that spends hours smashing your face in with a malice. Anyways it's great.

So I'm like 15% into this. It's really fun so far but damn is it hard. Can we get an easy mode for the noobs like me? The graphics are perfect and the gameplay is addictive AF. Really like it so far. I'll update my review later when I've sunk some more hours, just wanted to throw my 2 cents in.
brutal as hell but surprisingly deep roguelike for the money. runs can be long or a short as you want with saves in-between major floor changes. music is sick and the gfx/sfx bring you back straight to the 90s. a must-buy for any survival horror or dungeon crawler lovers. there is a lot of game here to go around as well and I haven't even touched the post-game dungeons yet.
Quite literally "what if we made Shiren the Wanderer but with RE1 aesthetics". A cute homage to both franchises, and quite a brutal experience if you have no familiarity with the Mystery Dungeon genre and how they handle the concept of "resource management" (tip: You either spend items or HP to dispatch enemies). There is some light meta-progression so the game does get a bit easier the more you play, but for the most part you've gotta "git gud".
really really great game had to 100% it. the atmosphere is perfect and the game mechanics just compliment it perfectly, really scratches the early resident evil itch but also really reminded me of one of my other all time favs ff8 with the spells and their animations which was a welcome surprise.
If Chocobo Dungeon met Resident Evil. Spell effects evoke FF7. At it's core though it's a mystery dungeon game and from what I can tell a solid one at that.
Oh my goodness this game is an absolute gem. I could have very much kept playing for the extra content. I got so addicted to it so quickly I didn't even realize it. 10/10 would recommend anyone play this one, never would have expected such a quality game. I also love the ps1 graphics :]
