About
In Hotel 188, there are no monsters chasing you or cheap jumpscares. The fear comes from somewhere else: the atmosphere, the silence, the sound of your own footsteps… and that constant feeling that something doesn’t quite fit.
You wake up in a place you don’t recognize. Time doesn’t move forward, the rooms feel the same but different each time you return to them, and the only path is forward... even though you have no idea where “forward” is. Soon enough, disorientation becomes part of the journey. You start to get lost, doubt yourself, and wonder if you should keep playing or take a break. This is the real experience of the Backrooms. It’s not just about looking, it’s about feeling it deep inside.
Hotel 188 is not just about walking aimlessly. Along the way, you’ll find small puzzles that aren’t just there for decoration. They are part of the world, integrated into the environment, forcing you to think, go back, and observe more than you thought you needed. They’re not impossible, but they are designed to get under your skin, just when you thought you understood what was going on.
Every sound, every flickering light, every room that seems the same but isn’t… everything is crafted to make you feel that this “hotel” has a life of its own. And the worst part is, you don’t know if it wants you to leave… or stay.
Hotel 188 is for those who seek more than just a typical horror game. It’s for those who want to experience the true anxiety of the Backrooms, get lost in them, get frustrated, and still keep exploring. Because you know that somewhere in this maze, there’s an exit… or is there?

Nothing to wright home about. Kinda boring.
I really love liminal games... however this game didnt really hit the spot for me. Theres some cool ideas and enviroments in the game but most of thouse are literally at the very very end. I liked the initial idea of a liminal hotel but i dunno. Personally it really didnt hit me much. The puzzles are also very meh and can sometimes be extremly tiresome. My main offender is the one where you have to activate lampposts and good luck if you miss a single one. A lot of my gametime of takeing my time with this game and replaying it for the achievments were just the lamppost searching. Theres also a Spot the anomaly segment wich dragged on for extremly long in the game where i want to explore, that can also be extremly buggy and dosnt work proper half the time that forced me to restart the game wich... leads me to my biggest offender in this game. YOU CANNOT SAVE YOUR PROGRESS!!! WHYYY??? The thing is... there IS a chapter select at these monitors but you can only use it after you finished the section. It dosnt save after you reboot the game and you have to play fom the beginning. However the game only barely 6 euro wich is allright i guess but i really cant recommend it if they dont at the very least fix thier save system. And even them im not too sure tbh. If youre a hardcore fan of liminal things and you dont mind some meh segments to get to the few cool things buy it. The best parts are the beginning and end but wait for a steam sale.
I enjoyed this game, one of the better Liminal Space games of 2026. Hope to see more from the devs.
One of the better ones of this genre!
No Tel 188 like Hotel 188 watch out for area 3, it's a little wonky.
If you’re drawn to liminal space games or backrooms-inspired walking sims, this title easily stands out among its peers. The atmosphere leans more toward the surreal than outright horror—the tone is unsettling without relying on jump scares or overly creepy moments. Instead, it creates a space that’s simultaneously strange and oddly inviting, somewhere you might almost want to take a vacation in, if you don’t mind getting lost in mazes and odd corners. Each level introduces new gameplay mechanics or environmental twists, which keeps exploration engaging and encourages you to keep pushing forward just to see what the game throws at you next. Some puzzles are thoughtfully crafted and really scratch that exploration-and-curiosity itch, though a few solutions can feel unclear, leading to moments of backtracking that can drag down the pace—especially in more maze-like sections. The anomaly-focused level, in particular, is more likely to test your patience than your nerves. Visually, the environments and soundtrack deliver a strong liminal vibe. The use of ambient music helps shape an ambivalent, almost cozy darkness rather than pure dread—perfect for fans seeking something between casual exploration and surreal unease. Performance-wise, the game can be taxing on lower-end rigs, so you may need to drop the settings if you're running and streaming at the same time, but it remains playable and fun even on lower settings. There are occasional bugs—like out-of-place hints showing up in the environment—but nothing game-breaking. If you played earlier demo builds, you might sense the game has become a bit more complex and perhaps at times obtuse, but overall the care and love from the developer are clear throughout the finished product. If you want an atmospheric, puzzle-centered walking sim set in the enigmatic world between reality and dream, this is worth a try—especially for fans of the genre. Expect a unique, moody experience that’s more about soaking in the strangeness than running from monsters.
