About
Scare, terrify and thrill guests as you build the haunted attraction of your nightmares. Build and design elaborate attractions with incredible detail to scare your guests enough to leave before they can reach the exit, or risk losing fear reputation and cash.
BUILD
Build walls, doorways, trap doors, fake walls and more to guide your guests through the haunted attraction maze
Build pre-built hallways and rooms if you are feeling rushed to build or want to experiment with different themes.
Decorate your haunted attraction with lighting effects, ghostly paintings, spooky props and more.
Pick the colors to best scare your guests
Place scare traps along the way from ghosts to aliens and everything in between.
Purchase new attractions with fear reputation, but be careful the more of the same attractions you have and the closer they are to each other may result in a negative affect to your guests and not be as scary.
Ensure your attraction is ready for the next wave of guests and then prepare to see if your planning pays off.
Watch the profits roll in and see your fear reputation increase with every wave of visitors.
See how much more your guests will be able to withstand by monitoring the glowsticks they wear around their necks.
The further you progress the more you will need to work to scare your guests. Sinister traps are truly the stuff of nightmares as you have the ability to make guests disappear from the living and join the dead.
Don’t get caught or else your career will be over. Be sure to hire the best security and lawyers you can afford to keep investigations away from your haunted attraction.
Once you have earned enough scare reputation you will be able to progress and move to a new location and face unique challenges in a different part of town.
Different locations include:
Backyard Haunt
The Forest
The Old Factory
Abandoned Schoolhouse
Abandoned Amusement Park
The Lake
And more to come!

Horror Tycoon is not your average tycoon title! It's a uniquely creepy hybrid of the familiar resource management gameplay paired with challenging tower defense gameplay! Build and customize your gauntlet of terror with all the freedom of tycoon building mechanics, and construct a winding path of deadly scares to frighten your victims! The game has plenty of humor from the story mode premise to the feedback visitors so kindly leave you with should you fail to impress them. The visuals look great, with fantastic and highly customizable lighting! The game also lets you explore your devious labyrinth of traps in first person which is always appreciated! What's the fun of building a roller coaster if you can't ride it, eh? Highly recommended! Gameplay aside, the developer and community for this game are fantastic! There's genuine love and effort put into every aspect of this game with quick fixes, great feedback, plentiful updates, and a lot of amazing concepts! Although this game is in very early access I highly suggest sticking around, because this experience is only going to get better!
I love tycoon games, and this one reminds me of a combination of Roller Coaster Tycoon and Lemmings (which is awesome). Early access always has its bugs, but overall I'm having a lot of fun with this game. So far the most annoying bug I've encountered is with the saving dynamic, as I've lost two games already, and the one I have been able to return to lost all the level progress, but this is a single person developer and updates and fixes very regularly. Looking forward to more updates!
Horror Tycoon is a management and strategy simulation developed and published by Smidge Games LLC that blends traditional tycoon gameplay with dark humor and horror themes. Instead of managing a theme park, zoo, or city, players are tasked with designing and operating their own haunted attraction. The goal is not simply to entertain guests but to terrify them as effectively as possible. By combining base building, trap placement, and financial management, the game creates a unique experience where success is measured by how quickly visitors lose their nerve and flee from the attraction. The premise revolves around building a haunted maze designed to overwhelm guests with fear. Visitors arrive in groups and enter the attraction expecting a thrilling experience, but the player’s objective is to push them past their limits. Each guest has a fear threshold, and the player must carefully design the environment so that the sequence of scares gradually raises their panic level. If guests become sufficiently frightened before reaching the exit, they run away in terror, generating profit and boosting the attraction’s reputation. If they make it through the entire experience without being scared enough, the attraction loses credibility and becomes less profitable. Gameplay centers on constructing the haunted attraction itself. Players begin by laying out corridors and rooms that form the path guests will follow through the building. The layout acts like a puzzle where the length and complexity of the route determine how many opportunities exist to frighten visitors. Long winding corridors, hidden pathways, and narrow hallways can extend the experience, allowing more traps and scares to trigger before guests reach the exit. Designing efficient layouts becomes a strategic challenge, as players attempt to maximize fear while still maintaining a coherent flow through the attraction. Once the basic structure is built, players can begin decorating the environment to enhance its atmosphere. The game includes a wide range of props and environmental effects designed to create unsettling surroundings. Dim lighting, eerie paintings, bloodstained objects, fog machines, and supernatural decorations can all be placed throughout the attraction to increase tension. These decorative elements not only improve the aesthetic of the haunted house but also contribute to the overall fear level experienced by guests as they move through each area. The core gameplay revolves around placing scare traps that trigger when guests walk nearby. These traps function similarly to defensive towers in tower defense games, activating automatically when visitors enter their range. Examples include ghost apparitions, animatronic monsters, sudden jump scares, and mechanical devices that startle guests as they pass by. Each trap has different properties and effectiveness, encouraging players to mix various scare tactics instead of relying on a single strategy. Timing and placement are important factors in designing effective scares. Placing too many traps in a single area may cause diminishing returns, while spacing them out strategically can maintain a steady buildup of fear. The game rewards players who carefully plan the sequence of scares so that tension gradually increases as guests progress deeper into the attraction. This pacing element adds a surprising level of strategy to what initially appears to be a straightforward building simulation. As players continue expanding their haunted empire, they gain access to more advanced traps and decorations. New tools allow for increasingly elaborate attractions that combine multiple scare elements. Some later traps become extremely powerful, capable of eliminating guests entirely rather than simply frightening them away. While these methods can generate large profits, they also introduce new risks that players must manage carefully. Economic management forms another major component of the gameplay. Money earned from frightened guests can be reinvested into expanding the attraction, unlocking new locations, and purchasing more advanced traps. Players must balance spending carefully, deciding whether to invest in new scare technology, expand the building layout, or improve the attraction’s infrastructure. As the haunted house grows larger, maintaining profitability becomes an increasingly important challenge. The game also introduces the concept of reputation and outside scrutiny. While terrifying guests is profitable, attracting too much attention from authorities can lead to investigations. Players may need to invest in security measures or other defensive strategies to protect their business from being shut down. This adds an additional layer of tension to the management system, as players must balance fear, profit, and risk. Visually, Horror Tycoon adopts a dark and stylized presentation that suits its theme. The environments are filled with shadowy corridors, flickering lights, and eerie decorations that help establish the atmosphere of a haunted attraction. While the graphics themselves are relatively simple compared to larger simulation games, the art direction successfully captures the unsettling charm of a horror-themed environment. Sound design also contributes heavily to the experience. Sudden noises accompany triggered traps, while ambient music builds tension as guests move through the maze. The combination of eerie sound effects and visual effects helps reinforce the illusion of a truly frightening attraction. Watching guests react to sudden scares adds an entertaining layer of feedback that makes each successful trap placement feel rewarding. One of the most enjoyable aspects of Horror Tycoon is the creative freedom it offers players. The building system allows for a wide variety of layouts and themes, enabling players to design haunted houses that range from simple jump-scare corridors to elaborate labyrinths filled with interconnected scare zones. This freedom encourages experimentation and makes each playthrough feel unique. However, the game does have some limitations. The building interface can feel somewhat awkward when constructing complex layouts, and certain mechanics may require patience to master. Additionally, the variety of traps and decorations is somewhat limited compared to larger simulation titles, which can lead to repetition during extended play sessions. Despite these shortcomings, Horror Tycoon remains an entertaining and creative management game with a distinctive concept. Its mixture of base building, strategy, and dark humor creates a gameplay experience that stands out within the tycoon genre. Players who enjoy designing elaborate systems and watching their plans unfold will likely appreciate the challenge of constructing the ultimate haunted attraction. Overall, Horror Tycoon delivers a unique twist on the tycoon formula by turning fear itself into a resource to be managed. The combination of strategic layout design, trap placement, and financial management creates a satisfying loop where creativity and efficiency go hand in hand. While it may not reach the complexity of larger management simulations, its original premise and entertaining mechanics make it a memorable experience for fans of both horror and strategy games. EARLY ACCESS REVIEW: This game is great! It really scratches that Halloween/horror itch. As some other comments have mentioned, there is a tower defense element to the game, but it also has some tycoon elements and I think it rounds out to a really fun, creative experience. I'm so excited to see what Horror Tycoon is like on full release!
Good start...hopeful for the future.
Before you buy understand this game is a great foundation for an amazing and unique game, but it is way too much tower defense less tycoon. If the dev changes this with its current foundation it will be fantastic. I love how you progress through different sized haunts and unlock bigger and scarier stuff. But it needs a lot more tycoon.
Just honestly a bad game
BGM is too loud and too noisy. Lack of guidance for beginners.
sűrűn omlik össze! még korai fázisban van a játék! csodát senki se várjon tőle.
Update December 2025: Still the same bugs! Unbelieveble! Still unplayable! Really, don`t throw your money for this game. Devs said 2022: „The game will remain in early access until all features are complete and the game is stable and fun to play. Anticipated full release is October 2023.“ Still in Early Access! Since three years. No development at all. Developers are scratching their balls... Schade eigentlich. Also, haut rein liebe Entwickler und strengt euch ein bisschen an!
