A very fun tactical RPG with character progression reminiscent of Final Fantasy Tactics and CRPG-esque world exploration. If you are (as I am) always looking for more FFT-like games to play, this one's a must! The base game is a little light on things to do -- you can finish the game pretty quickly -- but this game has great mod support and there are a ton of mods that add extra dungeons and challenges that can significantly extend your playtime. This is a recommendation even unmodded, but with mods it's fabulous.

Just like all CRPGs from this developer, Horizon's Gate is a joy to play. The game is full of dozens of simple systems all working together to make a whole greater than its parts. The gameplay is fantastic, the battles are tests of your tactics and character building, and the exploration mechanics are well satisfying. The character progression and party building elements are my favorite part of the game, there are tons of classes for you to mix and match. Many classes have skills that really require crowd control, body blocking, or baiting to land them. The story is very simple and unobtrusive, do not go in expecting one. Main characters are likable and there are plenty of quirky side characters to enjoy. Art is simplistic, very readable, and charming. Music is 10/10.
